Horrible experience
Description of Work: System Pavers completed a large hardscape project in our front and back yard in October of 2014. Definitely one of the worst contracting experiences we have ever had. The quality and workmanship was very poor, and the supervision almost non-existent. Much of the work had to be tore out and redone. Would not recommend for any work.

Installation was as expected other that an unexpected interuption when a subcontractor didn't show up one morning, everyone forgot about the federal holiday that day. They also had to contend with a major snow storm but recovered well and proceeded with work after the storm delay. All in all, pretty good experience.

Overall, the project looks nice and we've had many compliments. However, the issues relate to the coordination between System Pavers and the sub-contracting company that did the digging and installation. I personally had to stay very involved in the project as their was either poor communicaton between Systems Pavers and the sub-contractor or the sub-contractor was poorly prepared to complete the project. The issues with the sub-contractor related to the following: 1) Underestimation of the time & resources needed to prepare the area for installation. 2) Lack of coordination & efforts to get rid of landscape waste materials ( they ended up disposing of some of the waste near my house which I didn't find until recently). 3) Ignoring some of the direction that the System Pavers Supervisor provided. I will definitely be much less tolerant of their efforts in the future.

We paid them $8100 for their service. It was probably a couple of hundred square feet. The job went great. I would definitely give them high rankings on everything. They were very prompt in coming out to give us the bid. They were very informative about their process. I thought they were very competitive on their bid, price wise. They were willing to get the business. They were very professional and completed everything in a very timely manner. They are great with their promptness and efficiency. They get the job done quickly. They are competitive on their pricing. They are not the cheapest, but they do a much higher quality job than the average neighborhood landscapers. I would use their services in the future too.
Description of Work: We used the services of System Pavers and they completed the job on June 11th. They put in a new patio and also took down a flower bed that was out of brick. That was kind of enclosing the existing patio. So, they removed that, re-paved that patio and added a much larger patio as well.

The story begins with a System Pavers door-to-door salesperson visiting the house while I was away on business and my spouse agreeing to have a salesperson come back and visit the house again after I returned from my trip. The salesperson who showed up was very good at his job, and by good at his job I mean that he rushed us through the process and had us signing paperwork before we had even agreed between the two of us exactly what we wanted done. His visit ended with providing us copies of paperwork and a very tiny and pathetic sketch of what the 26 ft by 14 ft patio would look like, which had all of about 30 seconds worth of thought going into it because we were so rushed. We went with a "zero percent financing" payment option which amounts to 36 equal payments over 36 months for $9,600 because we had to pay a $1000.00 deposit in cash on the spot. The salesperson mentioned that there was a lower price for paying the entire thing in cash, but we don't have that kind of money on hand so financing was our only option. Because the drawing the salesperson provided to us was so small and difficult to ascertain, I drew up a new drawing on my computer using Powerpoint that was symmetrical and had actual dimensions so the workers would know what to do when they arrived and I gave this to System Pavers. To my great disappointment, System Pavers subcontracted the entire job out to a local contractor, with the exception of a couple of actual Systems Pavers employees coming out to check on them two or threee times over three days of work. If I could turn back time, I would hire the subcontractor myself and take 2-3 days off of work to supervise them myself. According to information later provided to me, System Pavers paid the subcontractor approximately 25% of what I paid System Pavers. In other words, I got a $2,500 patio, but paid $10,600 for it. I was and am still very upset about this. I was also surprised to find out that System Pavers doesn't even manufacture the pavers, they buy them commercially from a number of different manufacturers who will sell the same product to any licensed contractor. System Pavers was nothing more than a middle man. If I generously include time spent by actual System Pavers employees driving to and from my house, I think actual System Pavers employees spent about 10 hours total on my patio. I'm not sure how many companies out there charge $800 per hour for their efforts, but that seems pretty excessive to me. The subcontractors themselves probably only made about $15 per hour. On the day the job began, the subcontracted work crew did arrive on time, but did not have a copy of the new drawing and only had the tiny confusing drawing put together by the sales person. If I had not stayed home that morning to provide them with not only a copy of my drawing, but considerable help in figuring out some of the details about where the borders should be, whether or not to cover up the cement apron that shows below the house siding, how high did I want the step, etc, I presume they would have had no choice but the wing it and guess at all of these. The System Pavers foreman later told me that he arrived one hour after they did to give them these same instructions, but that was a lie because I was home all morning and did not head into work until lunch time, once I felt the crew was off to a decent start and knew what I wanted. To their credit, or just my luck, the subcontractor foreman spoke english so I could communicate with him easily. As far as the job went over the next three days, this did not go as I expected based upon what I thought the salesperson told us. First off, he made a big deal about how System Pavers digs down 7 inches below the surface, then fills it back up with aggregate to keep the pavers from settling unevenly in my native soil, which has well known uneven expansive characteristics (Highlands Ranch, CO). What I later found out is that the System Pavers procedure is to only dig into the soil 7 inches below the top surface of the paver. My back yard slopes away from the house, so the pavers on the outer rim of the patio are sitting on a support wall that is sitting only one half inch below the surface and without any aggregate beneath that. I had expected them to dig a 26x14 hole in my yard 7 inches deep and then fill it back up with aggregate and then build the patio on top of that. The purpose of the aggregate, per the salesperson, is to protect against native soil that settles/expands unevenly. If that's true, the outer edge of my patio has zero protection from this. Coincidentally, per the System Pavers foreman, the System Pavers 25 year warranty does not cover uneven settling. Speaking of the 25 year warranty, it is now July 10th and I have not received a copy of it. In fact, ever since System Pavers got the final paperwork signed after the job was completed, I have not heard one word from them or received anything in the mail. As far as I know at this point, based upon the response to my request for the warranty paperworkk from both the System Pavers foreman AND the System Pavers salesperson, the 25 year warranty is a complete lie. I have recieved nothing from System Pavers to indicate otherwise. They both told me that someone at the corporate office is responsible for sending that to me, it's not part of their job. If I do receive a warranty, I will happily retract this statement, but as of today I have no warranty and no idea whether or not I will ever get one. Good business practice is to present the warranty to the customer immediately upon completion of the job. This has not happened. Workmanship on the patio overall was mixed. The work crew broke apart the existing cement slab, then broke it up into bits to use as aggregate. I had expected them to haul it away in large chunks and use gravel as the aggregate. Instead of putting down a tarp to keep the chips of cement out of my yard, I now permanently have a whole bunch of cement chips in the grass all around my patio. I spent over an hour going around painstakenly picking them out, but couldn't get them all and so the rest will be there forever. The System Pavers foreman dismissed my complaint about this by telling me that they would either sink into the soil or get covered over by the grass, so my complaint wasn't valid. I hope that nobody ever slices open their foot on a chip of cement when walking/running barefoot through the grass in my backyard. It occurred to my spouse and I after the work had already started that there was something inconsistent with "zero percent financing" and a lower price if paid in cash. To me, this basically means that the "zero percent financing" price is a loan that has all three years worth of interest already added into the 36 equal payments. Otherwise, why would there be a lower price if paid in cash? I asked the System Pavers salesperson about this and he assured me that there was no loan interest frontloaded into the non-cash price. I have no information to the contrary, but to me "zero percent financing" means "same as cash". In other words, the vendor eats the cost of the financing themselves in order to get your business. Since I paid a higher price, in my opinion I paid for the financing and therefore it is not zero percent, as advertised. In conclusion, the patio looks great for a $2,500 patio, but is a big dissapointment for $10,600. There will be cement chips in my back yard forever. If I hadn't supervised the subcontracted crew myself on the morning of the first day, my patio would not even look the way I wanted. Since I had to do that anyway, and especially based upon the price System Pavers paid the subcontractor, I would have been much better off leaving System Pavers out of the loop and hiring the subcontractor directly. It is my opinion that the "zero percent financing" option is disingenuous because it is not the same as cash, and therefore I'm paying for the financing. Perhaps most importantly, I do not have the promised 25 year warranty despite directly requesting it twice from System Pavers employees. I do not recommend using System Pavers. If you want this type of product, do a little research with local contractors who can buy the same material and do the same job for much less.
Description of Work: The service performed was an install of a pavers patio of approximate size 14 ft by 26 ft, including a stair from the sliding glass back door to the patio level. This replaced an existing concrete slab and stair that was part of the original house. The house was built in 1995, and we purchased it in 2003.

Adam, Brian and their subcontractors were a real pleasure to work with, and they accommodated our preferences with panache. They coordinated smoothly with Master Blaster who installed a new sewer line after the old driveway was removed and before the new pavestone driveway and porch installation began. So the both jobs ran just 4 days from start to finish. They returned the next work day to correct a minor defect in the porch level, and left the site in excellent condition. We selected System Pavers primarily based on excellent score and reports on Angie's List, and are quite pleased with the finished results.
Description of Work: Demolish and remove old poured concrete driveway and front porch. Coordinate work with Master Blaster plumbing, who excavated and installed a new sewer line under the old driveway site. Install replacement driveway and front porch using paving blocks per our specification.

The sales person, Bob, gave an excellent presentation on what we could expect, costs associated, recommendations for cost savings, recommendations for design, etc. We actually signed with them on the spot, which is something we never do - but System Pavers clearly has a good product, a great reputation, and an excellent overall guarantee on their work. It was a great decision. They estimated 5 days work on the job, and were actually done in about 4. They showed up when they said they were going to - and worked continuously (during business hours) for the next 4 days until it was done. By that I mean, they weren't leaving to finish other jobs in the middle of it, or anything like that. The team at our house were 100% dedicated to our job, and clearly knew what they were doing. The end product is beautiful. We actually considered trying to do this ourselves, and are so VERY glad now that we did not do that. It was a fairly pricey job - but in my opinion, worth the money to not have to deal with it ouselves. Mitch was the project manager for our job - and he was here every day, checking on progress, advising the team of any changes that needed to be made, etc. He kept us well informed of what was going on - and was very professional and knowledgeable. The job was completed on Monday this week - and even Bob (Sales) came over yesterday to make sure we were 100% satisfied with the job. I have already recommended System Pavers to 2 friends - and would recommend them highly to anyone considering getting paver work done. The ONLY negative thing I could say about this is that we were advised at signing that they were scheduling 3 weeks out - and our deck was not actually started until about 5 1/2 weeks out...but the 4th of July holiday fell right in the middle of it....so they did what they could do.

I did not grade the price because we did not get other bids. A specific crew from their company was recommended to us by someone that had extensive work done. This crew was not available, so we used another one. They did a good job. I believe the workers could have had a little more supervision. We had to direct them with the job, which we felt this is something the supervisors should have taken care of. However, once the supervisors realized these issues, they apologized and got the work done well. There were just a few minor miscommunication problems. The quality ended up being great. I would definitely use them again in the future, and just be more clear and specific with communication and expectations.
Description of Work: We have a walk-out ranch home, and they put in two paver circular patios for us (one upper and one lower). They also put in a paver sidewalk coming from an existing upper flagstone patio to the lower circular one that they put in.

The pricing decreases quite a bit in the fall, so if you can wait to do the work then, it will save you some money. They did a great job. They really compacted the soil, so it looks really nice. They went out of their way to make sure it was a professional installation. I would use them again in the future and would recommend them to others.
