The problem was that he never showed up for the appointment. I called and got his voicemail reminding him of our appointment. Did not show, did not call. That is unprofessional and disrespectful. We understand things happen in life that people cannot control, but to not show up without a phone call is just incredulous. I am disappointed in Angie's List. These are two separate contractors that have stood us up on two consecutive weekends. We will not be renewing our Angie's List membership after these two incidents.

He did nothing, he was able to give me an estimate, but didn't answer the phone after being a day late from when he was supposed to show up. I left him a message saying don't bother calling back. He did indeed call back then only to yell at me about how busy he was, then he hung up. Wow! Never knew service could be this bad, unreal.

Steve's estimated time of arrival was between 9 and 9:30am. He arrived at 9:50, which really wasn't a problem since I know my home is difficult to find. When he arrived, I noticed how unprofessional he looked. Sweat jacket pants hanging past his butt (he was unable to pull them up any higher due to the large protruding belly sticking out from his shirt). It took over an hour to look at two rooms, one to paint and one to do drywall on. I tried to get him to look at the kitchen as well, but this was the point he had started to discuss his inability to keep employees. He mentioned it was just him doing the work (which to me says it will take more time). He kept going on about jobs in the past and bad employees he has had. He took me through his history of his ex-wife and how he ended up in Colorado. I'm not a rude person, but I really needed to get to work. All the edging to the door was not a big enough hint that I needed to get out. That's not it. He told me about how other customers have complained about the lack of responses from other companies (this is the third company I had to call to get an estimate). it has been 6 days since he came to take notes, still no return call or email with an estimate.DO NOT CALL STEVE! He is unprofessional, lacks communication skills, and quite honestly, not someone I would want in my home alone.

After not hearing back from him after a week, I left a voice mail on his cell phone (he doesn't use email). After yet another week of silence, I called him and was able to reach him directly this time. To cut to the chase, he didn't remember me and had no recollection of visiting our house only two weeks earlier. Very strange and disconcerting. Obviously, I wouldn't recommend him, but was lucky enough to find someone who did get the job done.

I set up an appointment for 9:00 am to meet for an estimate and gave clear instructions as to the building # and unit # where the work needs to be done. I was there @ 8:45 in front of the unit talking with the neighbors until 9:40 am and no Steve. Finally I get a call at 10:00 am from Steve who went on to berate me, saying he was driving around for an hour and that all I did was waste his time. Really? There are 20 buildings in the complex! If he really was there, which is doubtful, following basic instructions is a difficult task for him. So just as a frame of reference, I gave the same location instructions to another contractor just yesterday and he found it without issue. Job was done and everybody went away happy. What was the difference? The basic lack of understanding of one Steve Gower. ******DO NOT WASTE YOUR EFFORTS WITH THIS CONTRACTOR!!******* Given the other reviews, I am not the first to experience this issue and shame on me for not looking at all reviews before calling. However, to avoid situations like this is exactly why we use Angie's List and it would be in the best interest of Angie's List to remove this individual from their site.

He was professional when he was providing the estimate and said that he would be able to begin work on the 5th of November. When I contacted him on the 31st of October to verify he would be able to begin on the 5th of November he said he would be able to start. However when I called him on the 4th of November to finalize details he did not answer my call nor did he return my calls. On the 5th of November he did not show up, he did not answer the phone nor did he return calls. If he had simply told me he wasn't interested in doing the work I would have found a different drywall contractor and painter. He caused over a week long delay in my remodel process. From the photos of his previous work it appears that he does good work, however as other reviewers have noted he can be extremely flaky.

I was very happy with the work and the price.

It was good and he did a good job. When they were done the wall looked smooth. My interaction with them was good; I don't remember anything specific.

It took roughly one week to get the first visit for the installation started and was finished over three separate visits over the next 2 weeks due to transportation problems. Steve was very timely in getting back to me via cellphone whenever I had called him and left a message; he would also explain any issues/problems well in advance of it being a problem for me and causing unintended inconveniences.

EVERYTHING STEVE DOES IS A MASTERPIECE! HE WILL NOT STOP UNTIL THE JOB DONE IS "PERFECTO". HE BASICALLY DID EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSE. HE STARTED FROM THE PAINTING (SEE PREVIOUS REVIEW), BUILT, INSTALLED AND TOUCHED UP EVERYTHING. HE IS HARD TO GET BUT WHEN YOU CATCH HIM, YOU WILL NOT REGRET.

An appointment was set after an estimate for Steve to do re mud my bathroom on 10/2/13. After 5 calls to confirm he was coming, I reached him on 10/1 and he said he was "overwhelmed with work and couldn't come". We rescheduled for 10/8/13 and he assured me he would be here on that date, and start around 8:30.He never called or showed up. I will never call him again, and I am glad I have had good responses with other contractors on Angie's list.

TOOK SOME TIME BUT IT WAS WELL WORTH IT

Worked with us to get the repairs done to our specifications. Mixed some adobe mud for one wall in our great room, and reworked it until we were happy. Pricing was very fair. An honorable man who takes pride in his work. We'll definitely call him again.

Called Steve from this site on 7/5 and he said he could come to my house on 7/6 or 7/7/2013 - we agreed to 7/6 at 3 PM. He was a few minutes early. I showed him the project of skimming walls and ceilings. He described how he would handle the work and it was exactly what I wanted to hear. He took a call, from what sounded like another client, and that lasted about 15 minutes. He share stories about other clients. He said he painted my neighbors house the previous week. He said he worked for his father repairing Sheetrock in nursing homes in Colorado. After that experience, he decided to go home to divorce his wife, and move to Colorado. He finally left after telling many stories of customers and saying he would call with a quote in a few days. If I liked the quote he would write it up for my signature. I didn't hear and called on the 9th. He answered saying 'hi Nancy'. I said this is Brian and wanted to touch base with him on the quote. He said he has been busy and would get with me in a day or two. Haven't heard back. This guy is A or F from the reviews I have seen, and my story is no different from the other F ratings. He told me he doesn't use email or the Internet. Moral of the story - call South Valley Drywall to save yourself time and get a decent quote. They have very good reviews and have given me a competitive written quote and I will be using them.

We set an appointment for an estimate at 3:00. Waited until 4:15 for him to show up or at least call out of courtesy, then had to leave.

Steve is amazing - great quality workmanship, he literally does everything, and anything he can't do he lets you know (instead of over promising and under delivering). Really a master of all trades and extremely reasonable pricing. Very old school guy, but we loved having him in our house for the 3 weeks of our basement remodel. He literally cleaned up the construction zone (vacuuming and everything) every day before he left for 3 weeks - that kind of professionalism. Highly recommend.

His communication skills were poor in that when I said I wanted him to the job he must have assumed that I just wanted him and not his helper, he didn’t inform me that he had a regular helper. If his helper would have been there everything would have been fine. He with is helper have an A rating and it wouldn’t have bothered me at all to have his helper there so I know his helper had to be good since he had such a good rating. If I had known that he had a helper that would have been just fine having the helper work on the job as well, but I in no know he worked with a helper. It would have been gotten done in 2 or three days instead of taking over 4 days and the work was not totally completed. The grout work was not complete. It was obvious that the new helper that Steve got at the last minute didn’t know what he was doing, he didn’t know how to install a pipe kit or garbage disposal, he didn’t do the painting correctly either. Steve himself did excellent work but however he didn’t finish the grout work like he was supposed to. He was supposed to be done at noon and by that time it was already 4pm by the fourth day. I offered to let him finish the grout were a week or two later, even if I had the carpeting installed by then but he insisted on finish then but then he didn't finish it. Steve's work was an A but the last minute helper's was an F.

Whatever time that he says he is going to be out there, he is there. He does a really good job cleaning up after himself everyday. It seemed like he focuses just on one job. Whatever he says he's going to do, he gets it done.

He was late to start with. Once we showed him the 2 jobs we needed done he gave us an estimate before he left the house on the smaller of the two. The other one he said he would call the next day with the estimate. We gave him 2 weeks and he never called. When I called him back and asked if he could get us the estimate he said he would have it to us after 5 pm that evening. I've never heard from him again.

Steve performed all of our sheetrock work and we could not be happier with his work. His price was very good and you would never be able to tell that he skim coated over the ugly texture. It looks just like he put the knock down texture on brand new walls. I would highly recommend using Steve to anyone that is going to have any sheetrock work done.

The work went well and looks great but we caught him with a very busy schedule...he definitely had trouble getting to our house on time.

Steve was responsive to my first call and came out the next day to give me an estimate. He said he could come back the next day to do the job, but he never came, never called, and didn't return my calls. I would NOT recommend him. Ironically, while he was giving me the estimate, Steve complained about people he had hired who didn't show up for work. He did the same thing to me.

Steve came by and gave us a reasonable estimate and we scheduled the work. He showed up on time and completed the work in one day (as promised) and it looks great. Can't even tell any work was done!!

Although I ended up working with another general contractor, I would recommend Steve. He was polite, professional and knowledgeable. His work plan and estimate were consistent with what was done to my house and I am very pleased with the result.

Requested a quote to drywall our basement and no one ever came.
