Description of Work: Took an initial deposit in early October 2011 for "materials" to remove my wood windows, restore and replaceand agreed to start work in 2 weeks. Failed to show up, failed to call. Then returned call stating he would start the next week and would let me know what day. Did not show up or call again. On December 1we had huge snowstorm and subzero temps predicted for several weeks. I called him and told him I did not want t have him repair the windows as he had broken his promises for the time frame agreed upon, failed to show up repeatedly and failed to notify me. Also, it was now winter, and I did not want windows removed and covered with plastic sheets for who knows how long (his timeline for the work was 1-11/2 weeks, but his original 2 week start date had at this point stretched to 8 weeks. He stated he could start the work the next day (Dec 2 in the snow, temp 5 degrees). I told him he was fired and needed to return my money. He stated he could not return it because he had already spent it, then argued with me for 45 minutes as to why I should let him do the work. He still has my 1307.00 and I am going to have to file suit in small claims to have it returned. Do not give this guy any money up front. If you decide to hire him anyway, be prepared to have an ongoing open ended project as his promises for start and completion dates and how long work will take mean nothing. I have gotten bids from 2other historic window repair companies since, and the were 100% more professional, and much less expensive, and with good word of mouth from historic society and references. The other companies both did not recommend window restoration in the colder months.

Dave does really fine work. He's more of a craftsman than carpenter. His business is really focused on restoration projects in downtown Denver and only on window restoration. He's rebuilt some 100 year old windows so my 10 year old window sill problem really didn't challenge him too much I suspect. He came and provided a free estimate and we talked through the possible water damage issues under the sill that couldn't be seen. He worked on an hourly basis as a result and brought a shop crafted piece of redwood to replace my poorly made pine window sill. He spent a few hours preparing the surface, epoxying the wood and puttying up the space areas--all before installing the new sill. All in all--this guy is a real professional. He worked with me to come to the Denver suburbs to do my smaller job and I was flexible with my schedule to fit him in.
Description of Work: Dave removed a rotted window sill under a 5' by 5' pane glass window without removing the window. He replaced the sill in such a way that it will outlast the original window and sash.
