Piper Sprinkler Company Inc.

I had been a 10-year customer of Piper Sprinkler and have probably given them thousands of dollars of business at my previous and current homes UNTIL today, when I encountered the most unprofessional attitude I've ever experienced from any service provider I've done business with. I set up a sprinkler restart appointment three weeks ago and indicated to Renee I'd also need repairs - my cracked vacuum breaker and sprinkler lines in the yard that my dog had chewed through. The appointment was for tomorrow; this morning Renee calls and asks if she can move me up to this afternoon, and since I was flexible, I agreed to this. I reminded her that the work involved repair and told her I had bought a vacuum breaker that was an exact match for my cracked one. Jerry's two-hour window (for which I rearranged my work schedule, again to accommodate THEIR request to change) came and went and when he showed up ten minutes after the end of the two hours, I explained to him again what I needed; immediately he told me he was only scheduled for an hour and there's no way he'd get all that work done; the vacuum breaker alone would take at least an hour. He also mentioned that they wouldn't install my replacement part - which I fully understand the reasons for - but right away told me that I "probably wouldn't like the price" on his vacuum breaker part as it was three times (!) what it cost at Home Depot. It seemed that he just didn't want to do the work - he started carrying on about how he had 10 other appointments that day and it "wasn't fair to customers waiting and having their lawns burned up" by the sun for someone else getting repair work. I guess my lawn was an exception to that?? I reiterated that I made it clear to Renee exactly what I needed TWICE over the phone and told him he was starting to make it sound like it was my fault for needing the repair and only giving him an hour on the schedule to do it. I honestly was ready to work something out where he'd do what he could and come back to finish another time but just like that I saw him getting back into his van and I said, "you're LEAVING??" Incredulous I told him he'd be getting this one-star review and he told me it didn't matter as he was retiring soon anyway and told me to "stop wasting his f@#!king time." I told him I'd be finding another sprinkler company. What was most amusing after the fact was receiving a cancellation email with "Hello Dan DO NOT WORK FOR" in the salutation so apparently they inadvertently let their "blacklisted" customers in on that fact by adding that comment within their name field in their "database." They were once a good company but I think it's time for them to ride off into the sunset.

The job was completed as was promised. The owner as well as one other worker arrived early in the morning to start the work and they were still working when I arrived home at 4:00 pm. A medium size back hoe had to be used to dig the hole and they were able to do this without damaging the sidewalk, driveway, yard etc.

For a sprinkler system put in 5 years ago and not have a problem on it, they only had to replace 2 heads in five years, that's amazing with the cold weather we have here. They're not the cheapest but you're paying for quality and you're getting quality. When they said they're going to be there, they're there. I find them very professional.

Terrible. I had just moved and made this appt to turn on the sprinklers at my old house before closing. I had used them for six years at this address. They came late and then came to my new house (see previous review where I had an appt that they never came and didn't call and much later finally returned my calls...only after I had posted a negative review here) When he called me to say I wasn't there, I explained he had the wrong location. He seemed a bit put out that he had to drive somewhere else. I had made this appointment just over three weeks before and was very clear about the address. Once he finally got to my address the service was fine. I found a new sprinkler provider on Angie's list and am never using this company again!

I first used Piper last fall (2011) to winterize my sprinkler system. Everything went great. I called Piper again this spring (2012) to start up my system. The work was done well, but the technician was 40 minutes late on a workday morning and never called to let me know he was running behind. I set up another appointment in June 2012 to fix a couple leaks and install a pressure reducer. Piper gave me a window of 1-3 pm. When the technician did not show by 3 pm, I left a message complaining. I finally received a call at 4:15 pm from Joe and had to reschedule. This company seems to do good work, but their constant tardiness is very inconsiderate and frustrating. It's bad enough that they won't make an appointment and instead schedule a window like the cable company. It's worse that they don't call you when they are running behind. Moreover, when you call their office, you never get a live person. You always get an answering machine and therefore can't find out when the technician will arrive. Piper apparently thinks its time is more valuable than its customers'. This company used to get good reviews. I hope Piper reads all the recent reviews complaining about tardiness and gets its act together.

Horrible experience with this company. They never completed the job, despite my request to thoroughly fix my system. They did minimal work, no effort to go above and beyond. Even with me willing to pay for it. System still not working right. I had a similar experience as another reviewer - waited patiently for my appointment (window 9-12) with a "no-show". They had the nerve to tell me the technician showed up and I wasn't home! I was waiting all morning, looking out the window and listening for doorbell with no noise in the background (just to make sure I wouldn't miss them). Poor service, poor results. Would not use them again!

I waited patiently during the large time window (9-12). At 12:45p,, with no show of any worker or any contact from Piper Sprinkler, I telephoned the company. Immediately, without saying they had to look up our account or even hesitating, informed me that our appt. was not until Saturday, from 8-12pm. I knew immediately this was not the case. When we scheduled, they tried several times to get us to take that day/time slot. We informed them this day/time slot absolutely would not be workable. Furthermore, after making the appt 2+ weeks earlier, we immediately wrote down in 3 different places the day/time we were scheduled for, as this appt was so important for us to get done. I honestly felt lied to when I contacted the company. I informed the person that I talked to over the phone that Saturday was not going to work & I was sure the appt was for that day. Unconcerned, he told me we could reschedule another 2+ weeks out. He knew how angry I was, but did not care & was unphased. I wrote an email to the management at the company as soon as I hung up the phone. I explained how upset I was & how we needed this work done asap. I rec'd a response email 8 hours later that evening simply stating they were sorry we had problems & to call to reschedule the appt. The email was a standard, general boilerplate response email- the lack of concern was insulting.

I used Angie's List to get names of reputable and highly rated sprinkler system companies from which to get quotes. I chose Piper first as they were one of the highest-rated companies on the list. When I called to set up an appt, the person at the front desk was very personable and shared quite a bit about the company which made me pretty excited to see how their quote would come in. On the day of the quote (3/24), the guy who came over never wrote one thing down that I said and I had numerous items to talk to him about besides just the replacement of the sprinkler system. He spent apprx. 1/2 an hour inspecting our lawn, told me that I was looking at $4900 to replace my system. After I told him that I would hope he'd sharpen his pencil because it seemed very high given that he was not replacing all parts of the system, he told me that he would provide a quote within a day or 2. When i received the quote, it was a 1 page document w/ a couple of options where the highest quote was not actually replacing all parts. I have no idea how many zones would be included. I have no idea what type of sprinkler heads would be used. I have no idea how much time would be involved. I received a quote for the landscaping that I was requesting (which was all manual labor plus dirt) that was consistently 2 1/2 times the other 2 quotes I received. There was one item that was not even included in the quote and when I called (twice), I was never given a clear answer as to whether the quote included that item or not. There was no professionalism whatsoever and it was extremely obvious to me that the company did not want my business. I write this only because I noticed that most of the other comments on this website for this company were not for full replacement of sprinkler systems but mostly fixes/replacement of parts. It's the big jobs where companies show how good they are and how much they value the business they get and I think this is a prime example where this company has a lot of room for improvement to compete with other companies in the area.

We had a terrible experience with this company. They never did what they say they would do. They had to come out multiple times until my sprinklers were actually fixed. Everytime they came out 'under warranty' we got socked with another bill--something else was wrong with the sprinkler and this wasn't covered. After the 3rd time and >$700 later, the repairman concludes I need a new clock, showed me the sprinklers worked on his temporary clock, and labeled the wires for me to go plug in my own clock. Upon leaving, he concedes we already spent a lot on the sprinklers and if we have any problems to call he will fix it for free. One week later, I plug in the new clock on nothing--sprinklers don't work. I call him up, he comes out, and you guessed it: drops another invoice on me on his way out. I refused to pay, explain on more than one occassion to their billing department the story, who were always real nice yeah yeah and then send me another deliquency notice. 4 months later I am still getting bugged by their billing/collections departement and will not pay based on principal--in fact, I want them to pay me back for the so called warranty calls that I ended up paying for. I should have known on my second call these were a shady operation when the receptionist had to check if we were on the do not pay list before sending out the repairman--apparently a lot of their customers are unhappy. I went with this company because they had a great rating on Angie's. My experience with Piper Sprinkler was so bad I questioned the veracity of Angie's lists ratings and terminated my subscription with them.

This was a hard job and one that I could not accomplish myself. Great customer service, great job, great quality.

The people answering the phone are very courteous. They worked around their normal windows to fit an odd time frame I had available. The tech that arrived and did the work was very knowledgeable and explained the problems and required fixed in detail.

We had a large water leak of unknown origin. The water company had been out the previous day but found no source of the water leak. When the technician from Piper Sprinkler arrived, he was punctual & polite. He was very interested in helping us solve not only the obvious problem we had called them for, but also other repairs I remembered that needed to be done for quite some time but didn't recall until after he was there (checking the heads & clock to make sure they were both functioning optimally). He relentlessly pursued the source of the water leak until he found it. When he left, I was extremely happy with the service provided; for the first time in two years, my sprinkler system was not only functioning properly, but I was far more educated on the basics of monitoring & maintaining our irrigation system. I scheduled our Autumn system blow out & shut off for a month from now because I have total confindence Piper Sprinkler will keep me & my irrigation system very happy from here on out!

They were very responsive and fixed the problem, we have had no problems since. We will use them for winter preparation for the lawn irrigation system in the fall.

This company was truly EXCELLENT! I was frustrated from calling around and getting people that knew the sprinkler part but couldn't do the plumbing or vice versa. I was a little nervous that it was going to cost a lot of money. We moved into this house 2 years ago and had never used the sprinkler system (only to test). We knew it was leaking in several places. I called the company got somebody to come out in the next day or two. I was told there would be a fee. I was not sure I wanted to pay a fee for an estimate. But they explained to me that they would esentially be looking at the system to find where the problem was. I agreed to the fee and set the appointment. The gal on the phone was great! They came out on time, went over everything with my husband and we spent so little. It was a huge relief to know these guys know what they are doing. We had Tony come out. Truly professional and I would use them again in a heartbeat. Thanks for making it a pleasureable experience!

Everything went perfectly! They recheck the system after it is installed to make sure everything works properly. Many of companies listed either didn't follow through with an estimate or never called back.

EXCELLENT - fast, efficient and reasonably priced -

The person answering the phone at Piper Sprinkler Company was very pleasant and was able to schedule me within the week. My yard had dead areas and the sprinklers had very low water pressure. Within minutes the two broken sprinkler lines were discovered. The technician repaired the broken lines and checked and adjusted all sprinkler heads. He was very thorough, cleaned up the mess he had to make and seemed to enjoy his job. I will use them in the future and will happily tell my friends about them.

All work was completed in a timely fashion and at a very reasonable cost. I will never call anyone else.

It turned out well. They fixed it, and they have great office personnel. They are affordable and I will continue to use them.

I had a pressure cap on my lawn sprinkler manifold blow out in the freeze we had in October. Piper company came and replaced the blown part. I also wanted to know if some valve boxes I had another company replace had taken away my ability to auto-drain/winterize myself. My system is one of those that you don't have to have the pipes blown out. Chuck was very patient with all my questions and took time to explain my system to me. Just to make sure that the manifold would be OK for the winter, I went ahead and had him blow out the pipes anyway.

I worked with them last year so they sent me a postcard this year as they said that they would. I called and made the appointment; it was all very easy. John came out this time and he was particularly thorough. He left a sticker and a contraption on the shut off valve so that if a problem happened and the area was undisturbed, they would take responsibility.

He came out early and did a great job. He was considerate, professional and responsive. The quality of his work was good and I was satisfied with his service.
