J Place Painting

We received 3 bids for painting our kitchen cabinets. We chose J Place Painting because we liked Josh (the owner), he was reasonable, and available to do the job quickly. He walked us through the process and we felt confident he would do a good job. Initially, they were scheduled to begin on May 13, but rescheduled 2 times due to other jobs getting in the way. My husband and I were very flexible and understanding. The actual start date was June 3. Josh assured us that the job would take 3-4 days. He showed up with 2 other painters who were completely inexperienced so Josh was training them as they worked. They made numerous mistakes that he had to fix and he was obviously irritated at them, which made matters worse. They hand painted the cabinet frames and trim and there are visible brush strokes. The cabinet doors were sprayed in our garage and they aren't smooth at all, with small bubbles and particles all over. The two finishes don't match at all. Josh spent a little time fixing some of the areas, but basically it all needs to be redone. Josh knew we were unhappy with the results and he wasn't pleased either. We went out of town on June 10 and scheduled time on June 20 for Josh to come take a look at all the areas that needed to be redone. He acknowledged the poor work and said he wanted to make us happy so he would fix it. That was the last time we saw him. We tried scheduling several different times for him to complete the work, but he kept canceling and making up excuses for not coming back. I emailed him on July 21 saying how frustrated we were and that we thought he should give us a partial refund since he didn't fulfill the agreement. He replied on July 29 and said: and quot;Sorry, There's no one taking priority. I had to fire a contractor when I was on vacation and then I had to find a way to finish the job when I got back. plus I had stuff scheduled and it back logged me in a bad way. As well as not having the right crew. I have some better guys now and getting back on track. I will take care of it. I'm not the type of guy that doesn't finish things or leave things hanging.and quot; That was the last communication we had. Now we have kitchen cabinets that look terrible and like an amateur painted them. I totally regret choosing J Place Painting and I wish we had gone with another contractor. Josh is unprofessional and did not do a satisfactory job.

I have so many good things to say about J. Place Painting and about Joshua, the owner. His company had come recommended from neighbors after he painted two other housed in my neighborhood. His work was clearly good, the neighbors said his prices were reasonable and that he was both prompt and reliable. When I contacted Joshua regarding my paint job, I explained that I had the same house model as one of the neighborhood houses that he had already produced a bid for. Based on this information, he sent me a bid within 24 hours. When I changed the color-scheme and added a fourth color, he sent an updated bid again within 24 hours. Joshua also came out to visit and discuss colors and design the following week. He provided options (and recommendations when requested) about where to apply the two accent colors I wanted to use. He also recommended slight tone changes of two of my four colors....recommendations that I will always be grateful for. We discussed some possible interior paint jobs and, once again, the bids were in my in-box quickly (48 hours). Once the details were set, we agreed upon a start date. Joshua had a delay at another job and called to ask if he could come 3 days early. He showed up with an assistant each morning by 8am. Both he and his assistant were friendly and answered any questions I had about the job. When, halfway through the project, I got nervous about a color choice, Joshua discussed all my options for changing colors and helped me make a change that would not cost me any more money. He also went ahead and painted the front of the house in all four colors, which wasn't scheduled to be painted until the following day, so that I could visualize the final look and feel comfortable with my decisions. The final paint job was excellent. I really appreciated that Joshua brought me on a final walk-through of the job to look for any areas that might need a touch up. There were a few and he fixed them quickly and well. Both he and his assistant did an excellent clean-up around the property. I would not hesitate to recommend Joshua and J. Place Painting to friends and I will be using his company for interior painting in the future. His prices were reasonable, he was very reliable and skilled and I always felt like it was important to him that I was happy with his work.
