 + -1 moreHe never showed up and never called us to re-schedule or offer up a reason as to the no-show. I found this extremely unprofessional. We understand things happen in life that we cannot control. It is the fact that we as customers were not offered the respect with a telephone call to at least inform us of what happened and to try and reschedule the estimate. That is incredulous. If you are the busy with other jobs, tell us that up front.
Description of Work: Nothing, that was the problem. He made an appointment with us to come to our home and give us an estimate on the job we needed done. We scheduled this for 8:30am.

 + 2 moreMike is a complete professional and really knows how to do things right! Think of the guys on "This Old House"...that's Mike! He's got excellent skills with woodworking, framing, finishing. He's honest, trustworthy, and very neat with his work. My husband and I are very picky and often do home repair work ourselves, if at all possible, because we want the job done well. Mike helped us do the things we didn't feel able to tackle. And he would offer us help and advise in the jobs we did take on. I will most certainly call Mike again when we need help with our next project! Thanks Mike!
Description of Work: Our home is over 110 years old and we needed help to refinish the basement. Mike framed, drywalled, and paint-ready finished all exterior walls in our basement. He laid 900 sq/ft of laminate flooring in the entire basement, (with no seams!) and all the baseboard trim. He installed a new, proper exterior door and had to entirely rebuild the framing (due to improper installation of the old door). Because our home is old and "quirky", this was not a straight-forward job. Mike handled the uniqueness and surprises with skill, common sense and achieved excellent results for us.

 + 0 moreI had an exterior door that had been shimmed a number of times in the past. It was now crooked, and wouldn't open or close properly. I called Mike at Hire a Hubby on August 28, and he came over that afternoon to give me an estimate. The next morning he was there at 9 am to start the job. He had to remove the trim, and chisel out all of the previous shims. He was able to adjust the door so that it opened and closed properly. The trim was rehung correctly, and the clean up was perfect. The only sign he had been there was the smoothly functioning door. I am very pleased with his work, and I would definitely contact him for future carpentry jobs.

As we reviewed all the things I needed he was able to fix most of them as we went. He came back a little over a week later to complete the remainder of the repairs.  + 1 moreHe is as good as all of his reviews and worth the two to three month wait. (Someone who is ready to swing a hammer at your house tomorrow is not usually available for a good reason..). We already have him working up a bid on another project. Finding a person you can trust with your home is not always easy and we are very happy to have found someone with excellent craftsmanship, professionalism, cleanliness and attention to detail.
Description of Work: Installed a plywood floor in the attic and two custom closets. Top notch work. Clean lines and nice finish work even in the attic storage space and he knows what he is doing. He even found a problem with the attic support and fixed it before installing the floor so we wouldn't have a problem down the road. Everything he built for us is rock solid and that floor was no easy task having to problem solve around all the things that stuck up in between the joists.

Description of Work: Mike replaced baseboards that had been damaged when I flooded my basement by forgetting the water hose that was soaking plants next to the house. He bought the materials, painted them, and then installed. He was fantastic. He had some time and so installed two pre-made corner shelves I needed for a guest bedroom while he was here.

 + 0 moreMike built our beautiful Trex deck 2 years ago but we learned that we needed to have the back side of our house jacked up this summer. This meant that half of the decking would need to be removed for the workers to get to the foundation. Mike was very responsive to us with this request, fitting it in to coordinate with the other work schedules. He took things apart carefully, labelled and set boards aside to not be damaged. Returned a week later after foundation job completed and put it all back together, creatively working with a few changes in framework that had occurred as result of the house jacking. Mike has always done great work for us - from very practical projects to beautiful woodworking. He's skilled, honest and dependable.

Description of Work: Called to inquire about installing cabinetry for a kitchen remodel. Mike promptly returned my call and let me know he was booked well past the date I needed work done. He was apologetic (no need, signs he's busy means he must be doing things right!) and asked me to check back in if I might be able to delay or see if he had a cancellation. Based on response and personality alone, I would definitely call for future quotes.

 + 0 moreI could not ask for any more! He was the best, professional, looked for ways to save us time and money & all the while amazed us with what a great job he did! We CANNOT tell the difference of where the wood was damaged by the flood and the work he did.
Description of Work: We had serious water damage due to a flood in our basement caused by a burst water pipe. We had to replace the wood floor twice due to shoddy work preformed by another company who responded the night of the flood, they did such a horrible job on the replacement of the flooring, we had to pay numerous specialists to confirm the flood they installed did not only not meet code, but was so rippled and un-level that you felt as though you were going to fall over walking across it. After getting that whole mess again cleaned up, the true professorial's were afraid to remove the sub-floor due to all the damage the original service did to install. This in turn caused the entire floor to be raised anywhere from a 1/4 to 1 & 3/4 inches across the entire floor depending on where you were in the basement. This was an issue when it came time to re-install the baseboards, wainscoting, and corner trim which had been a custom job to start with. Well, Mike fixed it ALL for us. He was able to save at least 95% or more of the original wood. He saved, trimmed, routed, you name it, he did it! I can tell you, people who saw the original work and the work Mike did afterwards said they could NOT find that there was ever any damage done to any of the woodwork! He was amazing, quick, professional and did a better job than we could have ever imagined. I would NEVER hesitate to recommend him to anyone, ever! Thank you Mike, you saved us thousands of dollars and time that is irreplaceable! He was the only one who even offered to try to do what he did and I thank goodness I found him here!

Description of Work: The only reason we did not use him was that the we decided not to do the bathroom remodel. The tenant moved into the property and felt the dated look of the bathroom was fine.The estimate was fair and her gave us options on pricing. For example if we would like tile vs a plastic bath tub surround or if we chose to do the floor tile. Out of the five estimates I received he was one of two that was professional and prompt. He did seem the most knowledgeable and was honest about what should be done and what was overkill for a rental property. He is the contractor we choose and if we have the opportunity to remodel any other bathrooms- even in our personal home- he would be our choice. Very important- he knows his plumbing. I do not know to what extent he does plumbing, but finding someone that could install the bathtub and take care of the plumbing as well as the rest of the remodel was a challenge.

Now we can paint and finish the garage however we would like and the insulation will make a big difference in winter and summer to keep the temperature more consistent. As for the fence, we had not treated it since we moved in 4.5 years ago and the wear and tear from the sun and other weather was really showing. Now the fence and the garage look great!
Description of Work: We had our fence power washed and stained, and the remainder of our garage insulated and dry-walled.

After not receiving a call back in June, called him in July and told him to coordinate with our tenent. He called the day before he could come out and when the tenent indicated she could not meet with him on that day and needed more notice, he called us to say the tenent was not available, so would have to cancel. We obviously would have worked with another contractor, had we known what this person's professionalism was all about.
Description of Work: Needed to have the flooring reinforced in the shower area of the master bathroom.

 + -1 moreMike was there every morning like clockwork at 8:30- 9:00. He did all the work himself except for the granite counter tops and the shower door. He is very knowledgeable about everything and if he doesn't know how to do it he will learn. His tile work was great. All the plumbing and electrical is spot on. Mike also went to bat for us when we had major problems with our granite installers. He insisted the job was not done correctly and made sure it was redone properly as we had no previous experience with granite. He also came back out when our steam shower wasn't working and fixed that problem. I would not only use Mike again but I consider him a good friend as well. Excellent!
Description of Work: We did a total bathroom model including marble heated floors and a steam shower. Everything was pretty much torn down to the studs and floorboards.

Description of Work: I have a large, solid oak home entertainment unit that I couldn't sell...it would only accept a 32" television. I tried quite a few woodworkers, in and out of Angie's List, and only one would attempt the work. Mike (Hire-A-Hubby) successfully and very professionally redesigned the top of the tow piece unit, and provided sliding tray shelves for easy access to hooking up television components.
