I needed to replace a border to my vegetable garden that had probably been in place for 20 years. The border was made of redwood planks and hollow in the inside. The in-ground portion was rotting and, on occasion, provided a home for rodents. After searching for contractors on the web and getting a couple of estimates, I settled on Design Exteriors of Denver, which had consistently excellent reviews. Cedric (Sonny) Shoebridge, owner and lead designer of the firm, visited, made careful measurements, and provided a detailed proposal for a new border consisting of 4”x6”x8’ rough cedar planks, capped by wider 2”x8”x8’ redwood boards for seating. The proposal was clear about possible variations in cost. The wood was to be coated with a top-of-the-line oil-based stain. Cedric suggested that I buy a plank and partially stain it with the color of my choice, just to make sure I liked it. Later, when he and his foreman were purchasing the rest of the planks, he asked for photos of my plank so that he could match the wood color as closely as possible. Enrique, the foreman, and his brother Jose did most of the work. They removed the old redwood border, including several concrete footings, laser-levelled the trench, then poured 3” of gravel footing into the trench, installed four courses of cedar planks in an overlapping pattern, locking them together with rebar and capping them with the redwood boards. The result is a very sturdy and handsome border with an amber stain that will probably outlast me. Enrique and Jose did a final pass through the garden, and removed wood and concrete debris. Construction had occurred in soil wet from melting snow, and our sidewalks and driveway were covered with muddy footprints. Enrique power-washed the concrete before departing. Kristi Tyler, Client Services Manager, was very pleasant and helpful from start to finish. The final bill was less than the original estimate, and I received a generous credit for the plank I had bought. I was extremely pleased with all my interactions with Design Exterior employees and more than satisfied with the result. It was money very well spent. I highly recommend Design Exteriors for outdoor landscaping and architectural renovations.

From the moment we sat down with him, Cedric (the owner) we knew that he was the right person for the job. He carefully interviewed us, found out how we would be using the space and took the time to get to know us. He created a design with several a la carte options to make sure we met our budget. Though covid hit right in the middle of our hardscape construction, he and his team got right back on the job when the city allowed. Bottom line: He and his team turned an eyesore of a backyard into a comfortable, relaxing space that reflects us.

The design was just what we were looking for - had zero changes, as Cedric got everything right. The finished product was incredible and we have thoroughly been able to enjoy the backyard as a result. Throughout the process, Cedric and the team were very helpful in explaining the overall process and contacting the various teams we needed (fencing, tree removal, etc.) to get our backyard in the shape we wanted - we're thankful we went through their team, as it made it certainly easier. Cedric and his team are very detail oriented, and take pride in all of the work they did (e.g. cement pour, grading, planting, construction, etc.) and it definitely shows through in the final product. We are very satisfied customers and hope other people are able to use them to make their dream backyards as well.

The work was performed as expected.

Cedric and the team did a great job, from the initial design of our patio through completion. Despite some challenging circumstances (winter weather, COVID lockdown, etc) the company did a great job of being transparent about timing and did their best to finish the job to meet our expectations. We are thrilled with our new outdoor living space, which now includes a pergola for shade and gas fire pit. We definitely plan to hire Design Exteriors again for future additions, and we highly recommend the team.

Cedric and his team have been exceptional in their design and craftsmanship. We added stairs, a hot tub & deck, a beautiful fire pit patio and plantings and retaining walls. It’s a big project and the crews working here have been great. (the attached photos show the work in progress)

Overall this big job went smoothly. A few delays due to illness. Professional designer, formen and crews. Cedric understood my vision, guided and implemented the project beautifully. Next spring the flowers will radiate glorious colors, scents and shapes. Highly recommend this company!

Sonny is a true artist! From the first visit talking about our vision of what we wanted the yard to look at, to his hand drawn yard plan to the choosing of plants and finally the installation of them as well as a gorgeous circular patio with retaining and seating wall, we couldn't be happier. Sonny's crew was fantastic, very experienced and knowledgeable and did beautiful work. I never would have envisioned what he came up with or thought it would be as beautiful as it is! We loved working with Sonny and his crew and absolutely recommend Design Exteriors - it was worth every penny!

This turned out to be a 3 month project, a bit longer than planned. The delays in the schedule were frustrating but the end result was well worth the wait. The quality of the work was SUPERB. Cedric was excellent to work with. He was always responsive to my emails, calls and text messages. I give him especially high marks for his vision, creativity, and attention to detail. Cedric shows a passion for perfection. I will definitely be calling him for my next project.

Cedric and his team at Design Exteriors were great. Unlike some of their competitors, he really put some thought behind the design of our space and helped us achieve the desired outcome we wanted with the limited budget we had. We will definitely be using Design Exteriors to finish the second phase of our project and for other ideas we have in the future.

Our family entertains a lot and needless to say the garden/patio is an important part of our house. When construction tore our yard apart we called in Design Exteriors to help. Sonny’s team is knowledgeable, respectful and extremely hard working. Initially we met with Sonny, the owner and went thru several design iterations - he has a great eye for details. He shared his extensive plant knowledge with us and various patio options. We appreciated that he was sensitive to pricing and budget. Mark was our Project manager - He was on top of whatever new projects we threw his way, and he worked endlessly. We had some challenging drainage issues - but they worked thru them perfectly. The lead foremen were Eduardo and Enrique. Their broad knowledge ranged from irrigation, fountain building and plant compatibility. This team was amazing; they patiently listened to our ideas and respectively shared their valuable insights. Design Exteriors was a wonderful group to work with. Our yard is more beautiful than ever before!

This was about a 5 month process from the start of the design to completion just before the first snow. Cedric was terrific to work with. He has so many design ideas, but is quick to listen and adapt. The Design Exteriors crews did a terrific and meticulous job. The subcontractors Design Exteriors uses are well-vetted and have been working with Cedric for a long time. We did have a bit of an issue when the regular concrete subcontractor had to sub out the job to someone else. It turned out fine in the end but there were a few rough spots from our perspective dealing with that subcontractor. Cedric was always committed to having the job done right and that we were satisfied, to the point of having a subcontractor come back, to tear out and replace all its work. The price was not a bargin, but the service and results were well worth it.

Cedric and his team did an outstanding job! They took a badly neglected backyard and changed it into something both serviceable and beautiful. There was no one on this team who didn't know what they were doing and it shows in the end result. From creating a beautiful entertainment area to installing irrigation, this team was great!

Design Exteriors did a good job trying to help us balance the dreams of our remodel and work within our modest budget. They sourced very competent crews for all of the various components of our work and were diligent about being sure that we were happy with the results along the way.

Two years ago I had my chimney repaired perfectly by this company. I recently had my roof replaced and water leaked through four of my walls. I thought perhaps it was another issue with the chimney or it was an issue with my recent roofing project. I called both companies out to take a look. It turned out that the roofing company was at fault and NOT Design Exteriors chimney work. The customer service I received from Design Exteriors despite it not being their issue at all, was outstanding. They took the time to explain to me the real issue and help me understand how to communicate to the roofers what needed to be done. It took my roofing company three visits before they finally admitted fault. All the while Design Exteriors stood behind their work and was willing to do whatever necessary had the issue had anything to do with their work on my chimney. They were consummate professionals, even going so far as to bring in second and third opinions. Meanwhile, my roofing company- the true "at fault" party, attempted to deny that my leak was a result of their work. Design Exteriors even went so far as to continue following up on the progress of the issue despite it not being their issue at all. I cannot say enough good things about them. I will use this company again and again!

Our home needed an existing interior drain solution repaired. Using a masonry saw and jackhammers, the crew was able to replace the existing drainage, and restore the basement slab to its original condition. This was a fairly unique project, and Design Exteriors was very detailed in providing plans and estimates up front.

We were extremely impressed with Design Exteriors, specifically their lead designer Sonny. Sonny was amazing with his consultation and design for our landscaping. Not only did he give us a perfect design he made the overwhelming process easy and fun every step of the way. He also went out of his way to consult on other areas of our property and we have found all of his ideas and recommendations to be extremely helpful. Not only was he professional, helpful and enjoyable to work with but he and Design Exteriors were also extremely understanding and flexible when we suddenly had to cancel our project at the very last minute. They could have made that very difficult for us but instead showed nothing but support and understanding. When we are able to do this project, we will most definitely hire Sonny and his team to do it as they have demonstrated nothing but professionalism and integrity. We would highly recommend their services to anyone.

We had a great experience with Sonny and Design Exteriors. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of time, thoroughness and attention to detail he gave to our project. From the very beginning he spent hours with us going over design ideas which included the hardscaping to the individual plants that would go in. His crew was friendly, professional, always prompt and extremely knowledgable in the work they were performing. Abby, Sonny's Executive Assistant was always quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had and did a great job of being in contact and keeping us up to date on the progress of the project. The work completed is absolutely beautiful and we get complements from everyone who has come over and seen our "new" back yard. Great! Sonny and the team are absolute professionals from start to finish. They are very responsive, flexible with scheduling and communication, personable, and do great work. No delays or concerns throughout the project and it was completed on time. I'm confident that the same project through other vendors would have cost more and taken significantly longer.
