Looks fantastic! Bret did a fabulous job despite not having installed flooring on a wall before. He worked quickly, efficiently and cleaned up when done. Could not have asked for a better outcome. I would highly recommend Bret. Great guy to work with too, very friendly, professional, polite and prompt. We are planning to have a new Alder wood front double door installed and I have already asked Bret to do it based on my experience with him on this job.

Bret called me the very same day that I emailed him on Angie's list back in July. He was pleasant and answered all my questions about coming to install window trim throughout my house. Our scheduled date arrived and he came and handmade and installed all of our interior window trim in 5 hours. Bret is very professional and courteous and did a really great job. We are very happy with how our windows turned out and the price was very reasonable. We would definitley recommed Bret and would hire him again without hesitation if we ever need anything done again. Thanks, Bret!

I didn't know where to buy the door (I needed a 36x80x1.75 oak door, not common these days), and he directed me to Builder's Outlet where I paid about $125, much less than a traditional contractor would have charged me! Bret was perfectly on-time and completed the entire project in 2 hours! I only paid for his time but he was happy to share advice on sourcing the materials and how to I could take care of some other minor issues in my home. I highly recommend using Bret!

Bret was extremely fast in getting back to me after I contacted him, showed up right on time and did an exceptional job on our window trim. Brett's extremely resourceful in working with existing custom cabinets. From the initial phone call he came over an hour later to provide a quote and on the day of install he was on time and efficientl. He saved me tons of money and time from dealing with other vendors. I would highly recommend him to friends and family members. Superb job! ***Definitely A Returning Customer***
We thoroughly enjoyed working with Bret and are thrilled with the work he did at our house. Bret built a beautiful wall of cabinets in our mudroom with a bench, shelves, doors, drawers - everything we asked for. He is extremely capable and flexible, building in our wishes and needs while suggesting improvements to the design where appropriate. Best of all, he is very detail-oriented carpenter and builds an absolutely gorgeous finished product. While he was here, he helped fix miscellaneous issues around our house - he can do it all.

Bret showed up first thing in the morning, as he'd promised when hit fit me into a cancellation in his schedule. When I came outside, he was looking at the steps to my porch, which over time had tilted dangerously toward the street. With any snow or ice on them, they were a liability lawsuit waiting to happen. He immediately diagnosed the cause, which turned out to be the cause of pretty much everything else wrong with the house as well: the original contractor had failed to tamp down the earth before pouring the concrete. So, in short order, the concrete walk leading to the steps, not to mention the concrete foundation of the house, had settled further, dragging everything else down with them. That explained all the external doors moving out of alignment with their latches and locks, etc.In short order, he took apart the existing steps, determined which wood was reusable, drove to Home Depot to pick up some fresh wood and other supplies, came back, set up his tunes and began rebuilding the steps. When he was done, he did all the other stuff listed above. He was cheerful, fast and resourceful. He charges $45 an hour plus materials and was well worth it.
Description of Work: Rebuilt three wooden steps to front porch; straightened front door, reinstalled sweep, moved doorstop; fixed a piece of broken baseboard molding; tightened hinge on garage side door; removed bathroom door, took an inch off the bottom, replaced; realigned sliding closet doors; replaced oven broiler element.

Bret showed up on time and ready to work. His estimate of the time/work required was right on, based solely on the pictures I sent him. He was totally professional - listened to exactly what we wanted, gave his greatly appreciated input, and cleaned up after the project. I would highly recommend him!

I just had a great experience with Bret and highly recommend him. I found him on Angie's List, emailed him and then had him over for a consultation. He had experience making the type of built-in we needed, had an honest, easygoing personality and his price was excellent. We planned out the structure by looking at my Pintrest board, doing sketches and then making adjustments along the way. When I changed my mind about one detail, we discussed the options and he redid one section without complaint. Logistics: He set up his tools in my garage, and put some sawhorses/cutting table in the backyard. My project went quickly because the weather was good and he wasn't confined to cutting wood and keeping everything in my garage. I gave him a set of keys and trusted him completely so that I could come and go as I needed. He cleaned up neatly at the end of each day. He made sure that the cats stayed in the house. He is pleasant to talk to and have around, but when I was working in my office, he left me undisturbed unless he had a question. He does a great job of estimating the cost in advance and keeping materials costs down. One thing: he doesn't paint the structure, but he gave me the name of the painter whom he recommends. So be sure to line up the painter for when he's done. It's my own fault for calling the painter late and now I might have to wait a bit. I will absolutely call Bret again for my own projects and recommend him to friends.

On VERY short notice (within 24 hours) Mr Briggs was able to come and install two cabinets and under-cabinet lighting for us in our laundry room. We were fortunate to contact him when he had a couple days available to work in this small job. Mr Briggs arrived right on time and after a brief inspection of the job, got straight to work. He needed to make a minor adjustment to the location of the wiring for the lights, but that was done in short order, and Mr Briggs did a great job patching the resulting hole. We also asked Mr Briggs to use countertop we had salvaged from demolition of the previoius laundry room configuration, and he was very accomodating, cutting the piece needed for the new counter and leaving a piece large enough for someone else to use, too. After installation of the knobs and toekick, the laundry room was left in very nice condition. Great to have the storage and workspace back in a laundry room that has been under renovation for a year (a water leak from bathroom above).

Bret brought a trailer with him and picked up a 14' ladder from a rental facility down the street. He then used this ladder to install a ceiling fan from a 20' ceiling. This type of flexibility was invaluable to us and he was friendly and professional. He was amazingly efficient and blazed through our extensive to-do list in just eight hours. He moved from task to task paying attention to every detail. We would recommend him to anyone who needs to get a lot done around the house.
Description of Work: Bret installed four ceiling fans, nine light fixtures, four smoke detectors, hardware for one door, a doorbell, two sink drains, and fixed two doors that were always closing on their own.

Were new to the area and needed someone to put new doors up in the existing frames. We had waited a couple of weeks for someone else who kept putting us off so I called Bret who responded quickly and had a day available. He was on time and did a great job installing the doors. I'm almost hesitant to let everyone else know about Bret, as he might be to busy the next time I need to call him for some work.

I originally contacted Bret in early May about hanging a door on my bathroom. We agreed on a time a little more than two weeks later for him to do the work. He estimated the job would take him most of a day to do, or roughly 6 hours. We discussed the materials I needed and he agreed to help me source them from a local building supply. Three days before the scheduled job I hadn't heard anything about the materials so I sent him a text to see what I needed to do to prepare. I immediately received a call back and he explained that his current job had run long and that he would have to reschedule. He gave me a time 3 weeks later that he could work my 1 day job into. This morning he called to let me know he had looked at the calendar wrong when scheduling my job and won't be available after all, and that he's booked until early August. Based on the reviews here on Angie's list, the quality of his work might be worth waiting for, but since he's rescheduled twice I just can't be sure that he'll be able to complete the job then. Ultimately, Bret was a real pleasure to talk to on the phone, and very helpful. He was proactive about calling me to cancel or reschedule the 2nd time when he realized his mistake and I appreciate that. I'm not sure if he's just so busy because he's really good or if my job wasn't big enough to justify his time given his other demands. I'm disappointed because I had several projects I need a good carpenter/handyman for but my time is valuable and reliability is just as important as quality.

I am really sorry for the screw up with the calendar Brad-It was a mistake flipping back and forth from May's calendar to June's...I can honestly say that I have only had to reschedule a couple of jobs since 2009(when I started on Angie's list) because of estimating the time it will take me to complete projects. I typically leave more time than I think it will take to complete my jobs to make sure that my schedule does not get messed up, but sometimes things take longer to complete than I guess and customers make changes. I made calls to local door shops to source your custom door and did not receive calls back from salesman as the local door shops are extremely busy with Denver's new home building boom, so I had time invested as well. So sorry for this unintended waste of your time. My reliability has never been in question by anyone else. Sincerest apologies, Bret

We are remodeling our house and have fired 1 GC. Hired another retired contractor to help me finish. The new contractor installed some new walls in the kitchen and master bath. After they were sheet rocked, the cabinets were being installed when we realized 3 walls where way out of plumb, as much as 1 1/2 inch in a 9 foot wall and 3/4 inch in a 3 foot pony wall. I started looking on Angie's List Saturday April 16 for someone. Called Bret Sunday afternoon late expecting to get his voice mail, but he answered. I explained the issue and we agreed to on a time. He stopped by Tuesday to look at the problem, showed up this morning and within basically 2 hours had the 3 walls completely plumb, and the door plumbed. He was courteous, punctual, was very friendly and obviously knew what he was doing. I would highly recommend him

Bret was very responsive in following-up my email message through Angie's List. we set up a time for him to come look at my project. Communication was excellent and he came out to my house on time. Bret provided advice and recommendations for me. He was prompt, professional and very personable. He works on an hourly basis at $50/hour so the cost estimate noted above was simply made up. I have not had Bret come and perform any work yet and we are still working on timing but hope to use him.

We had a very specific timeline for our project due to some medical issues with our oldest child and the impending birth of our third child. When the contractor we were working with was suddenly unable to meet our deadline, I panicked and turned to Angie's List for an alternative. That's where I connected with Brett. I got lucky -- He happened to have a few days of availability the following week. We chose the most time sensitive components of our overall project and he agreed that he could complete them during his available days. This included installing crown molding and window framing/trim in two rooms, a chair rail in one room, completing some minor drywall repair, and fixing some damaged door hardware. Brett came over briefly to discuss measurements, scope and the price of my project. He was back early the next morning with materials and began work right away. He was punctual and friendly. As other reviewers have said, he was a pleasure to have in the house, keeping me apprised of his progress and schedule and making friendly conversation while remaining very respectful to the fact that I work out of my home. I made a few small additions to the project between Day 1 and Day 2 which he easily accommodated. He also noticed a few things -- a damaged piece of baseboard trim in my hallway and a cracked threshold on my exterior door -- which he offered to address. His price came in very close to the initial estimate he provided, even with my additions and his extra value-added repairs. Everything looked great to me but the true test was the comments from other service providers -- Our painter commented that the woodworking "looked great" and "was easy to caulk". The folks who are installing our window shutters were impressed with how "tight" all the window trim was. My only regret is that I am not able to get Brett back sooner! I'm presently compiling my list for the next time we are on his schedule.
Description of Work: Brett added crown molding, window trim and a chair rail to two rooms in my house. He also repaired some damaged door hardware on two interior doors. He also noticed that I had damaged baseboard trim in my hallway and a cracked threshold on our exterior door -- He fixed both while he was here.
