I recently purchased a home that was built in 1942. It has lots of charm but needed some cosmetic work. I was referred to Alvaro and Sarah by my Real Estate agent and called for a bid on refinishing the floors. While discussing the floors Alvaro also offered me a bid on the painting. I was very pleased with the pricing and they were able to start in just one week. The work was well done. The team was well supervised by Alvaro, deadlines were met and I was well informed of what was happening each day. I felt like part of the team as we made decisions together. Having just moved in, I couldn't afford to move out or stay in a hotel while they did the work. This was no problem as the workers were very willing to work around the necessities of my bed and clothing, moving things from room to room as they progressed through the house. After the work was completed they moved everything back to its original place?.all with no extra charge. The end product was exceptional. I have had many compliments on the transformation. The floors are incredibly well done. I am so pleased that I have asked Alvaro for a bid on my deck this Spring. I trust this company. Thank you.

I left a message on 11/5/13. Alvaro called back and said he'd come by 11/7 or 11/8/13. On or about 11/11, I called and said if they didn't have the time or desire to do my deck, just let me know. Sarah assured me they wanted the business. Alvaro then came by, looked at my deck and left me a messge to call so he could give me the details. Beig a busy working woman, it took me three days to get back and leave another message. I haven't heard anything back. I'm way too busy to d*** around with a business who doesn't need my business.

Alvaro showed up for the quote and my wife met him and explained what we were looking for. He took measurements and said he would have a quote for us within a couple of days. He never called again. Just in case they lost our number, we called the company a couple of times and left a message with our number. No one ever called us back. That is extremely irresponsible and disrespectful of potential customers. I would never do business with someone like that.

All in all, I thought they did a terrific job on the Trex deck. We had a few minor glitches. One still has not been resolved. It was the distributor of the Trex product that was at fault. They did build a nice box step in the back for our back deck though. They cleaned up debris really well after the job was completed. We are still enjoying our deck. If we ever need our back deck rebuilt, I would contact them again. This time, I will know what to look for.

They did a nice job. They charged me minimal. They were prompt and they did more than I thought they would do. They were really nice. I have used them two more time. It could not have gone better. I was perfectly happy with what they did and for what I paid for, it was a good deal. They did what they said they would do. I probably would not use them again.

He adjusted his schedule on several occasions. I talked on the phone to both Sarah and Alvaro on the phone as my schedule evolved over a very busy week. He came out to our house and did a great job measuring and informing us of our options for hardwood floors. He was very polite, professional and efficient.

Alvaro and his team responded quickly to our initial inquiry - showed up on time, personable, professional, knowledgable - at this point we were right on track... Unfortunately we didn't hear anything until the following week - at which point the quote we received via email was ok, but ambiguous on cost. No problem, nothing a quick phone call or brief email exchange couldn't resolve. I replied to the quote / email with some simple clarification questions and never heard back. With limited time on our hands, my hope with Angie's List was that we might somehow avoid having to "sell our project" or otherwise add a bunch of time and effort following up (our expectation was an Angie's List contractor would be very responsive, esp. considering a high rating and generally positive comments. Disappointing to say the least. Fortunately our electrician introduced us to a firm we hired to do all the work at a competitive price.

Lots of back and forth to get initial quote and review scheduled. Once on the calendar no one showed up and I didn't receive a call. Won't be doing business with them in the future.

Mediocre at best. They showed up on time, did the work, etc. but afterwards when I had a few complaints, Alvaro was slow to respond. There were several spots in my floor, near edges and corners, with ripples in the finish. Imagine putting too much paint on a wall in one place and having the paint in that spot sag. I sent an email to Alvaro about these "drippy" spots and included pictures. It took him several days to get back to me. They did eventually fix the spots I had found at the time, but I with something like this, I wish it would have been done right the first time around.. Since then, I've found some other drippy spots, as well as a black hair entombed into my kitchen floor, but haven't bothered to follow up. We also had a bit of a misunderstanding on the original quote. I made it clear (or thought I had) that I wanted the floor completely sanded and refinished. When they started the work, Alvaro clarified that the quote he sent me did not include sanding the old floor. The price went up by $700. At that point, I had already moved myself and my two cats and two dogs to a friend's house for the week, so I really didn't want to start again from scratch.

It went really well. They were very professional. They told me everything I needed to know. I really like them. They were very friendly.

First phone call returned 24 hours later Phone estimate was $1000 but would be less due to island space Appointment window was 8-9 am so I got up early. Arrived at 9:20 Physical estimate was $1100 which included deduction for island Alvaro didn't bring a calendar to schedule work time Alvaro didn't bring samples of stain to choose It has been three days and I haven't heard from anyone at the company The good thing was that Alvaro said he was willing to work with me on the estimate difference

Aspen Deck & Hardwood Floor Refinishing Inc. was kind of difficult language-wise. The workers were not 100% fluent in English. The hallway has some closets so they poked a hole in the wall while sanding the hardwood. They don't want to admit that they were the ones who poked the hole in the wall but they patched it up. The house was 50 years old and the hardwood was put in originally. They had a little trouble in some areas and they had to replace some of the boards. They did a pretty good job. They had trouble matching the stain to the floor that trimmed around it. The floor is lighter-colored than the trim. They argued with me because I told them I wanted the shinier finish and they kept on saying "No,no you want the not so shiny finish. It will last longer and it will look better." I'm like "No, it had the shine before. I want the shiny again." It took a little while to tell them that's what I wanted. They could be a little cooperative with me when I was asking with what to do with the certain way. They were really good about coming right away.

Alvaro and Sarah were a pleasure to work with. They were easy going, but would bend over backwards to make sure you were happy and receiving top quality service. All the work was completed timely and I am very satisfied with the level of quality. I am already planning to use them again!

The guys who work here are very nice, professional, punctual, and overall very good people to work with! They worked with me, as I could not decide stain color, and they helped me get my floors exactly the way I pictured them! I definitely suggest this company for any flooring work you need done!

Project went very well. We met once for the bid. We met second time to pick the stain and discuss preparations. We went on vacation and returned to completed project. There was nice attention to detail.

These guys were really nice and they were flexible with scheduling. I had to have them come back twice, though, and I still am not pleased with the finish. The wood floor is in my kitchen so it needs to have a tough finish. The finish was water-based but they assured me it would be water resistant, etc. It is not and it is a thin finish... not adequate to stand up to kitchen traffic and spills.

Great representation upon receiving the estimate for the floor. I was in a time crunch and they were able to schedule me within days of my original call, which was exceptional service. I had clearly stated that I wanted a water based finish and that the color of the floor should remain the same as it was prior to resanding. We had agreed on 3 coats of the water based finish, and the job was to be done when I was out of the house for several days. When I returned, it was clear by the odor that an oil based finish was applied. This was confirmed by the company, and in fact only 2 coats of oil based poly were applied. The cost of the job was adjusted downward due to that. The work looked great and I would not hesitate to use them again. However, I would probably be sure that I stayed local and was able to oversee the job my self to insure that the job was done as expected. I would certainly use Aspen again in spite of the issue that occurred this time.

It went well. I got a quote, then set up the job. They did a good job, but not a great job. They went over into the living room area a little bit with the sander.

The job went poorly, overall. Pros: Alvaro is a kind, hard-working, honest man, who sincerely felt badly about our dissatisfaction and wanted to do whatever it took to make it right. Unfortunately, he couldn't fix our issues. I had Aspen install and paint new baseboard trim. They did a nice job on this. Cons: My floors have ripples in them. After the initial refinishing, Alvaro took his floor sander in for repair and found out that there were issues. Aspen redid the floors twice after the initial refinishing but was unable to remove the ripples. After living upstairs for 3 weeks we decided to give up and move on. When cutting the new wood to tooth in the floors, there were burn marks where they sawed. Some of the newly installed wood was gray or darker than our existing wood. Aspen tore this wood out and replaced with matching wood. I felt like I had to micromanage this project, placing tape on problem areas every night to show them what needed to be fixed. We had our floors refinished once before hiring Aspen and didn't experience any of these problems.

From start to finish, the process went smoothly.

The Aspen team was very responsive and completed the work quickly and well. The crew were very professional and friendly. We will use them again.

It went really well. I called Alvaro on a Wednesday, and he was able to come out on Saturday to provide an estimate. He was the middle priced of the 3 quotes I received, but seemed by far the most knowledgeable about our circa-1919 yellow pine floors and our desire to keep the character of the house. He also provided a fully itemized estimate with line items for each area, as we needed to refinish our floors in 2 phases to get a nursery ready for a baby on the way. Alvaro and crew showed up right at 8am the first day and got right to work repairing the broken boards and sanding. They had 2 coats of water-based finish down before I got home, and cleaned up very well. I wasn't able to be home the 2nd day for the final coat, but was able to work out leaving a key for the crew. When I got home everything was finished, impeccably clean and the work looks great. And the new boards blended in great with our antique fir floors. I am very pleased with the work and am planning on having Alvaro refinish the rest of the floors in the main part of the house in early fall.

Requested service for over a month and never heard back

I had heard mixed opinions on re-doing hardwood floors yourself and, after much debate, decided to go at them with an orbital sander rented from a home improvement shop. 12 hours later and 3 passes with the sander and the wax buildup on the floors still wasn't gone. Not wanting to start over or potentially cause damage to the floor (turns out the reason people shouldn?t do it themselves isn?t necessarily the amount of work but the quality of the rental equipment) I decided it was time to give up and call in a professional. But- it needed to be done within 2 weeks. Got 3 quotes and ended up going with the lowest bid- Aspen Floors. Alvaro was prompt, professional, and could get the work done in the time requested. From a business sense, his company was everything I could have asked for. He had his crew there when he said he would and we checked in a couple times during the sanding process- everything looked to be going fine.... Came back once the 3rd coat of poly was on.... pools of poly all over the floors, sanding marks where the fine grit sander didn't create a smooth finish, and poly lines/missed spots in corners and around door jams. Alvaro came to inspect it and agreed that it was a poor job and agreed to redo the poly work with the assurance that everything would be fixed once they screened it. Though the pools were gone and his worker did a better job distributing the poly, the floor was not particularly well tacked, there were several new gouge marks in the hall, there were several spots that were missed, and there were still some poly lines around the door jams, and there are some pretty decent drum waves in the floor to boot (there before too- just didn't have enough time to really look at them- I was distracted by the pools of poly...). The longer we are in there, the more places we find where something was not done correctly. Though Alvaro was professional about fixing the poor poly job the subsequent fix-it job did correct some of the egregious errors, the general quality of their work left much to be desired. Unfortunately we had to just call it good since we were out of time to fix anything more. That said, this experience has changed how I would approach floor re-finishing if I were to do it again. I was very focused on price and time line in my initial interviews with the contractors. Though I was interested in quality, I didn't really inquire to deduce which contractors were really craftsmen and which would just get the floors done for cheap. This matters with floors. I got exactly what I was after with this work- the floors are protected and it was a reasonable price. But was it worth it? No. Prepping to have someone re-finish your floors (taking off molding, moving furniture, the dust created from the work- even with a dustless system, etc) and living with the smell for 2 weeks after they are done is a lot of effort to put into it, never mind the money, for the floors to not be beautiful in the end. If I were to do it again I would pay the extra couple hundred dollars to get someone who is a real craftsman and will really care about the beauty and quality of the work.

Alvaro has an outstanding crew and at times I had to leave his crew in the home alone when I was out with the kids. This was a one week project. Highly trusted crew, on time, superior workmanship and very professional. Big thumbs up from us!
