Response from Anchor Engineering, Inc.
A representative of Anchor Engineering, Inc. visited her on November 13, 2009. She was informed at the time of the observation that we are consulting structural engineers, not a general contractor, and therefore, we do not physically execute the repairs nor would we provide and estimate regarding the cost of the repairs. Our representative also explained the types of engineering services we do provide, and the fees associated with the performance of a structural observation and providing a verbal report vs. a written report. At the time of the observation, she had foundation issues that needed to be repaired due to someone excavating a crawl space deeper and undermining the footings. Our representative drew her several pictures explaining different retaining wall options and provided a verbal report explaining what needed to be repaired as well as offering to communicate the repairs verbally to her contractor. In addition to this, he offered to provide a written report for an addition fee. Our representative also explained that in order to obtain a permit to complete the work she would likely need to get a written report and/or structural drawings and that we would be more than happy to provide those services for an additional fee, if she decided she wanted to move ahead with the work. At the time, she was not sure if she would have the repairs completed, and therefore she indicated that she did not want a written report or structural drawings completed until she provided further notice. Since the observation, we have not heard from her or the referring general contractor (with whom we continue to work), despite our representative having made it clear that we were more than willing to answer any questions.
