The quality of the tile work was very good. The owner was very judgemental. I told him that I wanted to put a grab bar in my shower. He said the only time he has seen a grab bar in a shower was in an institution. I also wanted my grout to be two different colors because there were two different tiles. He ultimately did it, but he didn't want to at first. He charged me more to do it.
Description of Work: I used A Touch of Tile for bathroom tile work.

We had a bit of trouble connecting since his schedule was so busy, but he finally made it over for an estimate. I liked his knowledge and professional attitude very much. I also appreciated his suggestions for my bathroom tub surround and kitchen backsplash projects. I would loved to have used him since my impression was that he would do an excellent job, but his estimate came in $1000 higher than the other two! He said he's used to dealing mostly w/builders so, maybe they don't blink at his prices, but as a homeowner, it didn't work for me.
Description of Work: David came out for an estimate.

I had to change the date for the work to be done a few times, but when we finalized the day and time, everything went well. It took longer than expected, but the worker kept going till the end. It took about 6 hours, and they stayed with the original estimate of $250.00. Now that the tile is done you wouldn't know there was ever anything there before. I can see a very slight uneven way the tiles sit, but only because I know where to look.
Description of Work: We needed two nitches, that leaked, taken out of our shower stall. The old tile was removed, and the frame work was changed. A new under surface was added, and then covered in the matching tile.

We hired David to repair a bathroom floor in a home that we currently lease to tenants while we are living out of state. Though David was responsive in providing a reasonable and competitive estimate and scheduling the work over the phone, the process after that was not satisfactory. First, we went to considerable effort to arrange for the remodel to take place while our tenants were away. We emphasized the importance of this to David several times and he agreed to do the work on the dates we specified. When the day arrived, he didn't show up and didn't call. When we called him, he made excuses and profusely apologized. Lacking a better plan to fulfill our agreement with our tenants to repair the floor, we agreed to reschedule with David. The work was completed on the next scheduled date but the completed project was disappointing. The tile was laid nicely, but arranged poorly. We had purchased boxes of tile that each contained a few slightly imperfect tiles. Instead of placing the imperfect tiles under the tub, sink, toilet or using them to cut corner pieces, they collected ALL of the imperfect tiles and laid them prominently in the most visible part of the floor. We probably should have been more explicit about our expectations, but assumed that a professional installer would discard imperfect tiles (we bought more than enough to allow for this) or at least put them under a tub or sink. When I brought this to David's attention (I don't think that he was present to lay the tile, and I'm not certain he ever visited the site at all), he became irate. The conversation devolved to the point that he was yelling into the phone uncontrollably. His position was that we should expect "crappy" work from him since we bought "crappy" tiles. So, overall he was not our favorite person to work with. Given his other positive reviews, we bet that on a good day David's work is solid. But be aware that his employees may not be up to par. And David can be rather nasty when things don't go his way.
Description of Work: Removed old tile in very small bathroom in a craftsman bungalow, repaired sub-floor (we hope!), laid new ceramic tile.

Response from A TOUCH OF TILE
THE FACTS ABOUT THIS JOB ARE AS FOLLOWS... WE DID HAVE TO RESCHEDULE THE JOB ON LAST MINUTE NOTICE. I HAD A 1 YR OLD THAT WAS VERY SICK AND THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO ABOUT IT. WE DID IN FACT CALL THE TENANTS IMMEDIATELY AND WORKED AN ARRANGEMENT WITH THEM TO COMPLETE THE WORK SOME WEEKEND AROUND THEIR SCHEDULE WHEN THEY WENT CAMPING OR SOMETHING. THE LANDLORD WAS NOT CALLED BECAUSE THE TIMING ARRANGEMENT WAS NOT WITH THEM SINCE THEY LIVED SEVERAL STATES AWAY. AS FOR THE TILE, THE CUSTOMER GOT A VERY PROFESSIONAL INSTALL, STRAIGHT AND NO LIPPAGE ON THE TILES. SHE HOWEVER DID NOT LIKE THE TILE... TILE THAT SHE SUPPLIED. IT WAS BLEMISHED CLEARANCE TILE AND ABOUT 85% OF THE TILE HAD BLEMISHES AND THE HOMEOWNER DID NOT LIKE THAT SOME WERE IN THE ENTRY TO THE BATHROOM. I OFFERED TO REPLACE UP TO 3 OF THEM FREE EVEN THOUGH IT WAS TILE THEY SUPPLIED AND THEY CHOSE TO NOT PAY ME IN FULL EVEN AFTER I TOOK 75 OFF THEIR BILL TO EVEN HAVE ANOTHER CONTRACTOR REPLACE THE TILES. FORTUNATELY, MY OTHER REVIEWS SHOW THE TYPE OF WORK AND QUALITY WE PUT IN TO EACH JOB.

I was very pleased with David's willingness to help me get the result I wanted. He offered advice and made recommendations without being pushy, he checked out the tile and grout, I had selected and made some necessary changes, he picked up the materials and figured out how to get the right tiles, he suggested that I put bleach on the mold under the old floor, he gently recommended that I have a plumber "update" the hardware (meaning, of course, that it was old, weak, and out of fashion). He accommodated my schedule. He did a genuinely good job, rather than slapping it together knowing I wouldn't notice. The result is beautiful.
Description of Work: Tore out and replaced shower stall and shower floor. Installed new waterproof drywall behind tiles. Installed two shelves in the shower.

I can't say enough good things about this company and David's integrity and commitment to quality. I thought the worker did a fine job with the tile installation, but when David came to walk through the job, he said he wasn't satisfied with using a metal strip for the tile/carpet transition and insisted on either adjusting the bill or redoing the floor at his cost. I told him I never would have known, but he said he would have and that it wasn't up to his standards. So, our entire floor was replaced within a week!
Description of Work: We wanted to tile two bathroom floors to replace vinyl, plus tile around a bathtub. David Wieland sent me an estimate for labor via email the day following my phone call. Once I picked out tile and grout, the job was scheduled within a week. He picked up all the materials and delivered to the house. Also hauled away all the trash.

David Wieland came and measured the hallway, prepared an estimate and emailed it to me. We corresponded by email about a few details. His workers arrived at the day and time agreed upon. They worked quickly and neatly and let us know when they would return. The work was completed over a period of four days. At completion his bill was for the estimate amount, and we were satisfied with the work.
Description of Work: Installed porcelain tile over cement in a basement hallway. Removed baseboard trim and replaced it after tiling. Hallway connected to four rooms, three with carpet, one with existing tile. All connecting were made smoothly to existing carpet.

This company was excellent. He did a great job. Tile looks beautiful, very even. A guy named Tim who works for David, the owner did all the work. He was very good. Cleaned up well and kept us informed of his progress.
Description of Work: Re-tile master bathroom tub. Remove carpet and put in tile under master bath vanity and upside of tub. Re-tile master bathroom floor where shower and toilet are. Tile two landings from garage to inside, from patio to inside and remove carpet from both areas.
