I dont know what is with the bad reviews. I had a great experience and saved thousands of dollars. We have been shopping around for carpet for awhile. Compared with some other private companies and Home Depot. Home Depot would have been over $4000 for the same quality. HD padding was ridiculously expensive. Don't be fooled by their free installation. You still pay for it (and some) in the inflated price of the carpet. The carpet we got from 3 Dollar is brand new, no rips or tears like the a review said on here. They have many different price ranges. We went for some of the most expensive stuff they had and it is amazing quality. They don't have a large selection of colors but we found a perfect one to fit our basement. The only thing I think they can work on is their response times to phone calls and getting back to customers. But if that is the only thing you do wrong, then so be it. They were always very polite and helpful. Don't go by the bad review on here and Google. They contract out the installation. The installers were from Done Right Carpet Installation. They were on time and did an amazing job. Very friendly and respectful. I also had a small tear in my upstairs carpet where the carpet met the hardwood. They stretched the carpet so the tear disappeared. When I replace my carpet in the rest of my house, I will definitely go with them again. I will also recommend when someone is in the market for carpet. Thanks for the great product. We are very happy all around.

We needed new wood floors and Carpet because we were selling our home. The salesman came out and measured and gave me a quote, I gave him a deposit and we were put on the schedule. The wood floors went in first, but the installer didn?t finish putting in the baseboards. He said Pat (the owner) would have someone else out to do that. The date for carpet install, I had all my furniture moved, and took the day off of work. We were having realtor photos the next day. The carpet installers did not show up. This happened again and again. Each time we had a install date scheduled, I would have to take off work, wait around, and no one would show, or even call. Once I called the day before to make sure we were still good, and I was told yes, however, no one showed up. Each time they had some excuse, Wrong carpet was delivered to the warehouse, the roll was to big to fit in the installers truck, it didn't come on time and the schedule is full. On the forth date for installation, I got a call from the installer in the morning, telling me that I would need to pay him directly for the install or he would not waist his time driving to my house. I tried to call the company to see if I should pay him or not, no answer, but the installer did show up!!! Throughout the day the installer kept asking me for a check. I made a check for installation to 3 Dollar Carpet. The installer was mad, packed up, left a HUGE mess, and carpet had gaps between the wall, baseboards beat-up, stairs where cut to short and not nailed down. It looked completely unfinished. They left a huge roll of carpet that was going to be installed in the basement in the garage. Pat would have picked up right away (never happened). I had to have them back to finish the basement, since it was paid for and I already had been storing the roll of carpet in my garage. I was told that the new installers for the basement would fix what was unfinished and done wrong before. The installers got half of the great room installed, but then ran out of carpet. I was told they would have to order more, that took another few weeks. Once it got there it did not match, but they installed anyway, and never fixed any of the other two installers messes. I called Pat, told him all the things what were still wrong, and we had our house under contract, told him the closing date, and it needed to be done before then. He said he would have someone out to fix and finnish everything. That never happened, we had to take a hit on the closing of the house because of it. The job was never completed, and I lost a lot of money because of it. The fact that Pat is calling me now asking for $750.00, when I didn?t get the job in full is shocking. I lost so much more that all the flooring and installation cost at closing. And I am tempted to go after him for it. It was the worst experience I have ever had with any supplier, contractor, or installer. And hands down the worst in customer service!!! NO NOT USE 3 Dollar Carpet!!!
Description of Work: Provider was to remove carpet in master bedroom and replace with wood floors, replace carpet on upper level, and add carpet to newly finished basement. But was never completed, and what was done was terrible!!!

I want to be as honest as possible because I'd really like to see these guys succeed. All in all I'm very happy with the carpet and the installation quality was excellent - which I guess is the best outcome you can hope for when dealing with a contractor you never used before. | |I found them on the web and decided to drop by and see what they had. Their deal is that they sell carpet for 3 dollars a yard - which is a ridiculously low price if you do even a little shopping around. Well the deal is that most of their business is carpeting trade show floors - they install a huge amount of carpet, it gets walked on for 2-3 days, they pull it and sell it cheap. They're up-front about this deal, but they also sell new carpet and nicer stuff as well, which is what I was looking for. | |I stopped by and their office is a small warehouse that looks like it was hastily set up. They were nice and showed me a bunch of sample boards, which I took home. The carpet actually looked a LOT nicer than stuff I'd seen at Carpet Exchange and other places. So I started leaving messages and they'd sometimes call back, sometimes not. Also, online you can find no less than 4 different phone numbers and 3 different business addresses. Their site looks a little iffy as well. | |At this point I was wondering if 3 Dollar Carpet was some kind of scam - I did as much searching as I could on the net and couldn't find a single review or word about them. I was about to bail, when I called ans told them about my concerns - they offered 10 names and numbers as referrals, and didn't have any problem with my request. I called and talked to about 4 different people and they all sounded honest and legit - they all had great things to say about them and also agreed with my "questions" about the company. | |Anyway, I decided to take a chance and use them. Well, the installers (they use outside contractors) didn't show for the 1st 2 days, and they gave me 2 different stories why they weren't there. Basic hired labor stuff - got overwhelmed at the last job, got stuck in Co Springs, truck broke down, etc. I was really going to call off the job, and I had words with the owner on the phone, who was a little defensive. Anyway, he called me back at 9pm on a Sunday and was very apologetic, and promised me the job would be done the next day. | |On Monday the guys showed up, knocked out the installation in 3 hours or so, and did a really good job. The carpet was excellent quality (you never really know how it is until you see it on your floor) and we're extremely happy. | |I think the deal is that these guys are used to working with trade shows - which are run like the mafia and which there are a lot of shady characters and abusive business practices. They're not really set up to provide a true retail experience, with all the customer assurances and professionalism, showrooms, ads, etc. They provide a good honest product, but they have a tough time with the realities of "professional salesmanship". | |Bottom line - if you demand solid customer service and need everything buttoned up and professional and are willing to pay more for that, 3 Dollar Carpet may not be the guys for you. But if you're willing to deal with some minor inconveniences and sketchy-looking practices for a great product that is really inexpensive, give them a shot. And let them know your concerns because they can handle criticism (and probably need to hear it).

Response from 3 Dollar Carpet
Thanks for the honesty, as a business owner I need to hear the realities from my customers. You can be rest assured that I will be making some drastic changes within my business model, so that I may change the perception of my business. And you are right, we can handle and are receptive to the criticism.

Started out great found beautiful carpet on my first visit on a Friday and they set an appointment to have it installed on Monday and I left a 50.00 deposit. Ted gave me a great deal on the carpet and install and guaranteed me it would be a professional job at rock bottom price he even told me he was going to take the carpet for himself but I got there first. The appointment was set for Monday at 9:30 a.m. so I took the day off work to be there and move all my furniture out of the rooms. Monday arrived and 9:30 came and went I figured they were running late so I did not bother to much with it but at 11:00 I called and Ted told me he was so sorry he had not called they ran in to a scheduling problem and they were on their way. I accepted this as a believable excuse for being late we all have problems at times. By 4:00 however they still had not arrived and I had not heard from them, I tried calling once and got his answering machine and left a message for him to call me, at 4:30 I finally got a hold of him. This time Ted told me that they had shampooed the carpet last night and were waiting for it to dry and it was pretty much dry so they could come right now and install it or if I wanted they could come in the morning, I asked him his professional opinion and he said it would be best in the morning so I agreed and we agreed on 9:30 a.m. and I took another day off work. Well 9:30 came and went so I called Ted who informed me that his installers were on the way and should be there any minute. At 11:00 I called him again and he said they had car trouble and would be there in 10 minutes and to give him a call when they got here, at 11:50 they finally arrived. They immediately got to work and had the job done in about 3 hours and they asked me to come and take a look at it. I went first to the master bedroom and found that they had put a very viable seam down the center of my room length wise and on one side it was split in the center creating another visible seam so there were two very viable seams and they said that was because that is all the carpet they had and I would have been charged more if they had to go and get another piece to fit that side. I was really not happy at all so I went to the other room and right as you walk in the door there were two seams about 7 and 9 inches where the carpet had rips in it. Now I know that the carpet is not brand new and had been used once and that is why the price was so good, however Ted had assured me that it was in perfect condition. I asked them about the rips and they said that was the best they could do. I told them I was unhappy with the job but would take it up with Ted. The installers left and when I went out to my drive way there was carpet scraps all over it as well as tape they had used to hold it down while cutting it. I also noticed that they had not cut the vents. I cooled down and contacted Ted with my concerns and he said he would be by the next day to take a look at it. Wednesday came and went as did thursday and Friday and the weekend and no word from Ted, I tried to call him and continually got his answering machine until I finally talked to him on Monday. I let him know that on Thursday they were coming to clean my ducts and I needed this done so they could access them so he said he would be there Tuesday. Tuesday came and went as did the first snow and freezing weather and I was unable to use my heater because I still did not have my vents cut. I finally get a hold of him a week later and he sets an appointment to have someone come and cut the vents, again no show. He keeps hitting ignore on his phone when I call from both my home and cell phones so I start texting him and finally he calls and sets another appointment and doesn't show. I finally resort to posting on Fb on the only page I can find for 3 Dollar Carpet and get a response form someone in another state who tells me he will help me. The next day Ted calls me and tells me he just got his but chewed by District because of what I posted and he would make it right and have someone out first thing tomorrow at 9:00. The next day came and no one showed up again so I start calling him and he said they are running behind and could I wait a little while and he would guarantee someone would be there, I told him I have to leave for work by 2:00 he assures me someone will be here by then. I leave my house at 1:45 and call Ted he acted shocked that the person is not there yet and asks if he can call me right back I agree and he does and tells me that the guy should be there in 5 minutes he was pulled over for speeding I told him I was already gone. He said he would come over when I get off work if I wanted I told him I don't get home till 11:30 and I don't want him there at that time he guarantees me that he himself will be there at 10:00 a.m. to take care of it himself. At 10:00 a.m. my phone rings and Ted tells me his is leaving his office now and should be there by 10:30. He does make it there by 10:30 and agrees that there should never have been the seaming in the master bedroom like it was that they should have laid the carpet the opposite direction and that would have been avoided, then when he see the seaming in the smaller room he states that is the best they are going to be able to do. He tells me he can pull it out and give me different carpet but he didn't have what I currently had or he could give me a discount and not charge me for the padding or the labor, I agree to this. He then tells me that he feels bad about all the problems and to make up for it he would carpet my basement at his expense if I would just make whatever I did on the internet go away. He said it is not a bribe I truly feel bad and this is not the way I do business. He took me to his van and cut me a piece of very nice carpet the kind I had told him I was looking for to put in the basement and said he had enough to do the basement and he would be over on Sunday to make sure it was measured correctly. I told him I would believe it when I saw it. He swore that this time I would see how 3 Dollar Carpet really does business and he would make this right. I have not seen or heard from him since October 16, 2013 and I have tried calling and texting and again he is hitting ignore and not responding to text, so I guess I see how 3 Dollar Carpet really does business. This was a terrible experience and not worth the money I saved because in the long run I lost two day of work and many more hours waiting on them to show up when they never did. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! THE SAVINGS YOU GET ON THE CARPET PRICE IS TRULY NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE THAT GOES WITH IT........
