"We were recommended by neighbors to go with Hernandez for our back yard landscape project as they had put in their sod and a few trees. We had Juan over who walked the space and provided us with an estimate. We were excited and went forward and spend a decent amount (near 10K) to finish our small back yard of our new house. Little bit of SOD, rock around the perimeter, irrigation, and a concrete patio. Plan was to use Hernandez for phase two the following year which we would plant some tree/shrubs. We were overall happy with everything but within months, we noticed discoloring and chipping all over the main section of the patio. Once spring came around (note we did NOT use any sort of ice melter in our back yard as we have dogs), this is when I reached out to Juan (in April 2023) with pictures. He did not get back to me. I followed up in May which he asked if I put any de icer down, which I explained that we did not. I sent a few more texts with no response and then finally sent another text in March of this year saying that it was way worse along with sending more pics. He then did reply and tell me he would be out to look at it and figure out a solution (see what he could do for me is what he said). Weeks went by, I followed up - he said he was waiting for the snow to melt. Then in April, I once again text him as I heard nothing and he told me he was working and that he will let me know when he would be out here. This is the last he has responded and I have texted every few weeks to month with new pictures and for a response. This patio should not look like itâ s 10 years old. Love to entertain and it is honestly embarrassing to have people back here to show a â new spaceâ looking like this. We have done our own planting (shrubs and a few ornamental grasses) just to spruce up the back yard until we fix the patio... To add on the the frustration, the sod that Hernandez put in did not survive the winter so we had to remove all of that and put in mulch.... Wasn't even that bothered by the sod, but all things considered - really it's not okay. The only thing we have left from the work they did is a chipping patio.. For 10K. Pretty irritating and not the way you do business. Make it right when you make a mistake. They must have poured the patio during inclement weather (too cold), or something was wrong with the mixture."

Turf Master Sod Farm is a family owned and operated Sod production business with locations in Colorado and Wyoming. We take pride in offering you a wide variety of Low water use specialty grasses as well as bluegrass and fescues. Turf Master is especially proud of the custom blends we’ve created to thrive in our harsh, arid climate. We are honored to have served both residential and commercial clients in Colorado, Wyoming, western Nebraska, eastern Utah, southern Montana and the Dakotas for over 40 years and look forward to continuing to serve our community by providing high quality, environmentally friendly sod for generations to come. Wyoming Location: 324 Ayers Rd. Wheatland, WY 82201; (866) 493-8311
"The services, from the sales rep Frank, (who cussed in front of my 3 year old, failed to respond to messages and walked off the job), to the unresponsive management and unreturned phone calls after an incomplete job leaves us without thousands of dollars and a horrible looking lawn. They did not finish the job nor offer to remediate, only stating we were “confrontational” after asking what they would do to fix the problems. Even if that was true (which it is not), the job we paid for is still not completed, confrontations or not, and that is what we paid for. New sod, not their opinions on how we handles our unhappiness with their lack of professionalism. They left an unfinished job with 100% of our money up front. They even broke our fence! Take it from us, do not do business with anyone who asks for all up front if the job isn’t complete. Sod was left out in sun on a pallet in 100 degree heat for 5+ hours dying before it was started to be installed, the ground was not properly prepped, and weeds and grass are now growing from underneath the new sod laid. They laid the sod in the wrong places. They left a mess, were unprofessional, disrespectful, and sadly did not operate in a Christian manner. We are having another local landscaper have to fix the problems, and they are shocked at the way our lawn was left by this company. Save your money and do business elsewhere. I guess turf masters does not care to help their customers. BBB will hear from us, as will Secretary of State and beyond. We are just shocked this is the way they operate."

"Stay as far as you can from this company and from Cindy McCord, the owner. Zero transparency, zero principles, and zero integrity. As a small business owner myself, I don't take leaving a review like this lightly, but I've had an absolute nightmare of an experience with Bloom Floralscapes and think it's important for people to know what they're potentially engaging with by hiring this company. After an installation process where things went wrong every step of the way, I discovered that Bloom charged me for 1000 square feet of sod when they only even ordered 592, and then installed closer to 400. That's a fun way to pad your pockets, isn't it? In light of this, and in light of the fact that I was given an estimate that was $828 over what it should have been earlier in the design process, I told them I would have to see a line-by-line invoice to make sure everything else was charged appropriately. I was assured by Cindy McCord and her operations manager Emilie Hudson that I would receive this line-by-line invoice, though Emilie told me they don't like to do line-by-line invoices because then "customers can pick and choose what they want." Huh? Isn't that how the process *should* go? I followed up with them 3 times over the course of 2 weeks to get the promised information, and in my last communication, after still hearing nothing, I told Cindy if I didn't get the information she promised to provide that I would be forced to file a claim with the BBB. Then things went totally off the rails. She said because of my "threats," she was turning my file over to her attorney. I said I wasn't threatening her, I simply felt I had no other way to proceed as a consumer when she was refusing to provide information she had promised multiple times. Her attorney then started outright bullying me via email saying he was going to file a lien against my house if I didn't pay up, and I explained to him there were no grounds to file a lien as I never refused to pay, I was simply waiting for the promised line-by-line information from Bloom. Furthermore, Bloom had never provided a final walkthrough, which *as specified in their own contract*, is when payment is due. The attorney continued to disregard this information and told me it didn't matter if I was overcharged, it was a "lump sum" contract. Wow. I explained once again that Bloom had promised to provide me with the line-by-line, and he said he would just let the court decide. I was in such disbelief, that I went to Bloom the following Monday with my checkbook to try to sit down with the operations manager, Emilie Hudson, and pay the true balance due. Emilie wasn't there, but the rep at the office called her and I explained I was there to resolve the situation and pay so we could all be done with this. Emilie said the accountant wasn't in that day but she would give her a call and would call me back. The office rep asked if I'd like some tea, said "It sounds like this has been really frustrating," and offered me a seat so I could wait for Emilie's call. 20 minutes later there was a knock on the door, and I could hear someone say "We hear there's a disturbance here?" IT WAS THE POLICE. Yes, you read that right -- Instead of having her accountant sit down with me or sitting down with me herself and providing the information she had promised, the owner Cindy McCord had called the police, lied, said I was causing a disturbance which was absolutely untrue, and had me escorted off the premises. And this, again, was when I was *trying* to pay the true balance due! It was totally unbelievable. I went immediately to the BBB to file a claim, which 2 weeks later Bloom has yet to respond to, meanwhile their attorney continues to bully me via email and has now moved ahead with filing a lien against my home. Cindy is now saying I refused the walkthrough to apparently create grounds for the lien, which is another out-and-out lie. Never in my life would I imagine the owner of a company would behave in such a way. The amount of stress this has brought and sleep I have lost, I can't even say. And all this because Bloom refuses to honor their word and provide the promised information, when I have said every step of the way I am more than happy to pay for what was actually installed. Who *wouldn't* want to see detailed numbers from a company after discovering they had been overcharged? Again, stay as far as you can from Bloom Floralscapes and Cindy McCord, and if anyone you know is considering working with them, tell them to beware."

Mulch costs anywhere from $30 to $150 per cubic yard, depending on the type you choose. On the inexpensive end, red and black mulch are about $35 to $40 per cubic yard, and are typically made from recycled waste wood like shredded old pallets or deck material. Cedar, cypress, and rubber mulch cost anywhere from $100 to $120 per cubic yard. A pro can help you determine the type of mulch most suitable for your landscaping needs.
Topsoil costs from $12 to $55 per cubic yard, depending on the type you choose. For example, screened black dirt will cost about $15 per cubic yard. Loam (soil composed of sand, silt, and clay) costs about $17 per cubic yard. Standard screened topsoil costs about $20 per cubic yard. The type of topsoil you need depends on your landscaping plans.
Topsoil should go down first. If the topsoil is next to your house, make sure the grade slopes away from the house to keep water from pooling against your foundation and possibly leaking into your basement or crawl space. Don’t cover your decorative landscape mulch with topsoil as that defeats the purpose of laying down the mulch. If you’re trying to create a certain soil composition to improve plant growth, you’ll likely want compost mixed into the topsoil instead of mulch. Over time, any decorative wood mulch will simply decompose under the topsoil.
No, mulch itself does not necessarily attract termites even though it’s usually made of shredded wood. Some types of mulch like cedar or cypress resist termites because they’re toxic or unappetizing to the wood munchers. However, when the mulch is deep enough, say three inches or more, it creates a perfect habitat for insects of all kinds to build nests.
Although it’s not required to lay anything under mulch, it can help to put landscape fabric or plastic weed barrier down and lay mulch on top. The barrier helps keep weeds from growing up through your mulch. It also helps keep rodents and insects from burrowing into the ground underneath.
