Description of Work: Angie's List was useless in finding a reliable contractor. I found Big Al's through Home Advisor. My Angie's list contacts did not return calls.

Promised more than they delivered; unresponsive.
Description of Work: Hired them to remove old insulation from attic. Worker they sent worked very hard; they dropped him off with no water (it was hot up there!), food, etc. and no transportation.

After reviewing the proposal for insulation installation services which I received via e-mail, I decided to have this company do the insulation work. The company sent workers who could not speak English very well at all. When I was showing them the attic accesses, it was clear we could not understand each other. I asked them to wait outside and called the company. I told the man who answered the phone that they sent workers who could not speak English. The response from him was one word: "yeah". I told him I could not communicate with them if they did not speak English. The response was not acceptable and I informed the man at Big Al's that I would send them back and the order was canceled. Yesterday, I received an invoice via e-mail for a trip charge for $80.00. There was no contract signed by me even though their proposal explicitly states: "WE CAN NOT COMMENCE WORK UNTIL SIGNED PROPOSAL IS RECEIVED." There is nothing on the proposal stating a trip charge of $80.00 will be assessed if the job is canceled after the workers show up. I called the sales person, Dustin, and talked to him, but the conversation became very ugly. He stated he was not aware there was a fee and he was unaware the invoice for $80.00 had been sent. When I told him about the verbiage on the bottom of the proposal stating a signature was required, he told me that didn't matter....I had given them the verbal o.k. to do the work. He also stated he would talk to his boss after I advised him of the Better Business Bureau complaint I was in the process of filing, which did indeed get filed. I would not recommend this company to anyone unless the customer is aware they may need an interpreter when the workers arrive. I would also advise potential customers to get more than the proposal in writing in case there are more hidden fees that are not divulged up front.
Description of Work: There were no services performed as I sent the workers back to the company.

I liked the woman who came here to do the bid and I liked working with her and I thought she was professional and knew her business. She was also timely and showed up when she said she would. I was not pleased with the quality of their work though and they were late getting here too. They said they had no time to do the work and would come back another day. I explained to them why that was impossible and had to actually call their supervisor to get them to do the work. The lead guy was really nasty when he was told he had to do the work that very day.
Description of Work: Big Al’s installed blown-in insulation in the attic for me.

Went OK. Took them longer than estimated to do the removal with a Vac Truck, however this crew did a very good job getting every last bit out as I requested. Received a phone estimate based on the SQ FT of attic I provided (no written quote). Received a bill in the mail a few weeks later and it matched the estimate.
Description of Work: Removal of attic insulation. Insulation had to be removed before the tear-off of my roof for this project.

They crew that they sent out didn t speak any English and they brought the wrong utensils so they were unable to finish the work. Then they even tried to charge me one hundred dollars more than what they were supposed to. The entire experience was a disaster.

I took the morning off work to wait for the crew to arrive. They were supposed to be there between 10-12. At 10:30 I got a call saying they were running late and resetting the time from 11-1. At 2:30 I called the office and asked where the crew was. The woman I spoke to was very defensive and said something like "I just work in the office." She told me they'd be there by 3. At 5:30 (after I'd spent the whole day in the house waiting) I called and left a message at the office canceling the job since I was leaving on a business trip at 6:30. I did receive a call back a couple minutes later; this time they were very apologetic and offered me a coupon for next time. I said there wouldn't be a next time. At 5:45 a very bedraggled crew pulled up to my house in their truck. They hadn't gotten the message. I sent them on their way, much to their obvious relief. I still half-expected a call from the owner in the next couple days to apologize, but haven't heard a thing.
Description of Work: We needed blown cellulose in a 750 SF attic. We contacted Big Al's and they gave us a phone estimate and set a date for the work to be done. They told me it would be a two-hour job and that they would give me a window of time when I had to be at home that day. The woman I spoke to was about to hang up the phone when I asked, "don't you want my address?" That should have clued me in!
