Storm Guard may not be the worst company with whom I have done business, but it's close. On June 5, 2020, I called Storm Guard because I thought that my roof had been damaged by hail. Storm Guard sent Nick that very day to assess the damage. I submitted a claim to my insurance company, which, within five days, approved it and sent me a check with which to have Storm Guard begin repairs. I met with Steve (another employee of Storm Guard) and, in a casual conversation, told him that I would be out of town between July 19th and August 13th. Steve said that Storm Guard would begin repairs on July 20th. Meanwhile, I had paid Storm Guard almost $5000. On July 20th, I was 1000 miles from home when my phone rang; it was Steve - one of his workers had fallen through the ceiling of my bedroom. Was someone able to bring him a key to my house? Fortunately, my son lives thirty miles away and was able to bring the key, which he left with Steve. The next day, I received these texts: "Roof and siding all done. Waiting for confirmation from team to take a look at interior for tomorrow." "I should have the interior figured out by early next week. We will take pics of furniture and those things so we can put everything back if it all gets done before you're (sic) return. I apologize for this happening." On July 22nd, I received this text: "Was just inside (7/22) for the standard practice of asbestos testing. I've yet to clean up the debris from the drywall breaking. I'll likely leave that up to the interior sub." On July 23rd, I received this text: "Your ceiling/drywall came back NEGATIVE on the asbestos test. Good news." On July 27th, I received this text: "Waiting to get the interior knocked out." On July 30th, I received this text: "Please call when you have a few minutes." It was the last text that I would receive from Steve. I called him (At this point, I was 1500 miles from home). Steve told me that I would be responsible for cleaning up the damage caused by his worker; I did not agree. On August 7th, Sam (vice president of Storm Guard) left me a voicemail indicating that he (Sam) would be my "point-of-contact moving forward." Late on August 12th, I returned home and went to my bedroom. The bed, floor, a laundry hamper, dresser, and desk were littered with pieces of sheetrock, insulation, and splintered wood; the damaged sheetrock was hanging from the ceiling; I could see the roof decking through the hole in the ceiling. I took photographs, closed the door, and went to another bedroom to sleep. On August 13th, I called Sam, but was directed to his voicemail. Within an hour, Steve called me; the ensuing conversation was nasty - he insisted that he was not responsible for cleaning up the mess that his worker had created; I disagreed. It would be the last phone contact I would have with Steve. Later that day (August 13th), Chad (another employee of Storm Guard) called and also said that it wasn't their responsibility; I disagreed. Finally, Amy (an employee of First General Services) called to arrange a time for someone to assess the damage and schedule the repair. Subsequently, First General Services cleaned up the mess, moved the furniture out of the bedroom, repaired the hole in the ceiling (including replacing the insulation) and moved the furniture back into the bedroom. On October 14th, I received an email from Storm Guard requesting payment of the remaining almost $5000. The only problem was: the trim around my garage door, which was part of the original hail damage, had not been repaired. So, I sent Sam an email, and he agreed that the job was not finished. On November 2nd (almost five months after my initial contact with Storm Guard), two young men came and repaired the trim around the garage door. Oh, and my key - Steve called my son, told him that he (Steve) no longer worked for Storm Guard, and gave the key to my son. If anyone asks me for the name of a good roofing company, I won't say "Storm Guard."
