We picked Soukup Construction from the Christian Business Directory. October 14th, 2016, he said bathroom tile, sink, vanity, and toilet installation would take three or four days, a little more if there's a weekend in between. We did ask him to also reinstall the bidet from the old toilet. It took him 13 days. He told us to stay out of the bathroom while the tile set and then rushed the install of the vanity before we could paint the walls. He applied epoxy to secure the vanity to the wall and then said we would have to paint around it. A stand-alone vanity, he put it in the corner where the old one was, not caring the vanity wasn't flush with the side wall. He said, "It's not my fault. You picked out the vanity!" We can still see lighter wall paint through the crevice that we can't reach to paint now because he rushed to get the vanity in. His excuse, "Homeowners usually want to paint after the vanity is in." Really? Some of the floor tile was higher than the rest. When my wife complained about it, he fixed it grudgingly. Wife asked him if it was possible to caulk that crevice between the vanity and wall, or maybe put in a backsplash, he declined and started complaining: it was too hot upstairs, he didn't like our little, 10-pound Shi'h-Tzu barking from the basement every time he came and went, he didn't feel like his work was appreciated, he felt overly-supervised, and we didn't leave the doors unlocked for him or give him the combination to our garage door (?!). He then said his family was in town and he was done with us while he was visiting with them. We asked when he was going to finish. He replied with his hands in the air, "It's fine by me!" When following up later, he said he had another job hanging shutters that had priority over finishing our bathroom. Asked if he would consider fixing that crevice with caulk or a backsplash, he said, "I'd rather not." When he finally finished, he invoiced us and three business days later, texted me to meet for payment. I told him my bank had mailed him a check the day before. Very friendly initially, but didn't like having to fix the tile and his attitude deteriorated from there. So much for hiring from the Christian Business Directory! We have a second bathroom to do, but it won't be done by Soukup Construction.
