I employ SimpleWorks for all my computer problems. They are conveniently located, efficient, competent and courteous in their services. The prices charged are normal for this type of work.

Was having problems with my laptop---freezing up, running slow, weird things popping up. I figured it was infected with something. I needed it .desperately for volunteer work I do. All the data and contacts were in the computer, so couldn't borrow one, and couldn't be without it more than a day or 2 without being seriously inconvenienced. Their ads said quick service, and I had an online coupon and one from the phone book---money was a factor. I took it in and asked how long it would take ( I think I took it in on a Friday), and they basically said they could guarantee it would be and quot;on the benchand quot; within 48 hours. I asked if that meant it would be ready to pick up, because that was already at the limit of what I thought I could do without it. No, that was how long it would take for a tech to look at it. Then the actual work would be done in 3-5 days, depending on just what needed to be done and how busy the techs were. I understand that, but to me, walking in expecting to have it back in 2 days, then learning it could be up to a week was not good news. He also said that I could pay a (pretty high) hourly rate to get it worked on first. That wasn't an option. However, the man did look at my coupons, and gave me the best possible deduction. He also said that if I chose to have them do the work, the cost of the diagnostic would apply to the repair. That at least kept it in my budget. It wasn't worked on over the weekend. The tech did call me after he'd worked on it a bit, and said there was no obvious problem, so he couldn't say how long it would take. I told him that I would really appreciate getting it as soon as possible, as I needed it for my volunteer work. Hesaid he would do his best, and actually got it to me on the third day, rather than the fifth, so that was a relief. The price I was charged was what they had said it would be. The invoice he first showed me didn't reflect the discounts, but when I pointed that out, he quickly took it back and corrected it. Some time after I got it back, I realized that my Carbonite backup wasn't working any more. Then the wildfires started, and the volunteer work I do was directly involved in the evacuation. I didn't have time to take it back to them in the 30 day warranty period. Eventually I realized my Amazon Unbox wasn't working either. I took it back in, realizing that I was past the 30 days, but they guy said it was OK, since clearly something had been turned off during the repair. I'm standing there thinking he's going to take it in the back and have a tech go Click Click, and I'm on my way. Oh, no! He said it would take 2 days to and quot;get it on the bench.and quot; Seriously?!?! It's something they did, and they can't fix it immediately? And of course, I can't do without it for 2 days at this time AGAIN. I told him I could live without the Carbonite and Unbox for a while, so long as they fix it for free. He said they would, but it still would take 2 days. I haven't taken it back in yet, because I really have a hard time doing the work I do without my laptop. So, here I am with no backup working, and having to plan to do without the computer for a couple days again---because of something their tech did. Would I use their services again?: Probably. The price was right, and the tech was absolutely right about my Panda Cloud being the source of the problem, and uninstalling it and installing a different program. So all of that went as I wanted. But the time factor, and having to take it back for something the tech did, is really frustrating. It's also a long drive from where I live, so I might try to find one closer next time, given that Iand quot;ve had to make multiple trips for the service. Overall, I guess I would recommend them, but I will give a followup report after I take it back in.
Description of Work: Cleaned up some problems and deleted my Panda Cloud anti-virus, which apparently after 3 years was causing problems, and installed another free anti-virus program.

I went to the Yellow Pages, looking for a company that would come to our home and a company that looked established and not operating out of a basement or garage. Simple Works also had a YP coupon for $15.00 which was applied to the billing. I had purchased the new router but both my husband and I are computer challenged and prefer to get someone in who knows what to do and can take care of any problems. The desktop computer is 10 years old and running slowly. We wanted it checked out to see if we could up the speed some. Steve Domingo was the gentleman we worked with. He was considerate in calling us beforehand to tell us he was running 15 minutes late. The delay didn't matter to us. Steve is friendly, personable, and was very helpful in answering our questions and tutoring us through what he planned to do and why. He installed the new router without using the enclosed programming CD, telling us the CD would put "junk" in that we didn't need. Then he checked out the desktop computer. Because of its age and the fact that it is not state of the art, he advised us it would not be cost-effective to add more memory as it would still be limited in its speed and capacity. We learned a lot in talking to this young man and were not charged for the entire time he was here, due to expected chit-chat and discussion.. Regarding price, at first I gave this company a B for price ($125 for the first hour) but then changed it to A for the aforementioned discussion time. Our price also included a $10 travel fee since we live outside the city. We were informed of this fee when making the appointment. I think one can find a company that is cheaper than this one, but then, you get what you pay for. We were pleased with our experience with Simple Works and Steve and will call this company again for our computer needs.
Description of Work: Installed a new wireless router. Also checked old desktop to increase the speed.
