With over 12 years of experience in Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Painting is the local painter you have been looking for. We pride ourselves in the quality of our work and the extra mile we go to make sure our customer is completely satisfied.
Cory Smith arrived on the agreed day and re-sanded and stained the areas with which we were dissatisfied. He even ingeniously fashioned a plug from a dowel to repair the aforementioned step. He worked diligently and quickly and was a pleasure to have as a contractor.
Description of Work: I wrote a negative review previously regarding deck and gazebo staining; however, Cory Smith returned today and rectified the problems that we pointed out--including fashioning a plug for missing wood (a knot hole) in one of the steps and staining it to match the step color. The exterior of the gazebo was never a problem and the staining was done to the degree that other workmen have complimented the workmanship. We are very encouraged that Cory Smith is invested in the good image and professional workmanship of his company and greatly appreciate his returning to satisfy the contract. He knows his profession and is an excellent workman, along with exhibiting pleasantness and a caring for young people needing guidance and training. This was recently exhibited by his taking his charges to volunteer in the Waldo Canyon fire-damaged area.

I was aghast to learn subsequently that Cory Smith's business is actually a religiously-based training program ("Training Ground") to mentor teens and young men in independent living skills. I would like to have known this in advance so that I had the choice of contracting with such a program. When Cory arrived on 6/4/12 with two teen workers, he left them alone for the entire day. I watched through a window and noted that only one teen was working, while the other watched. I also noted that they crossed the parking area where we were trying to restore grass and comported themselves as typical teens, taking frequent smoking breaks. As the mother of four sons, I am very, very familiar with this stage of behavior and general abilities. My 32 years as a Social Worker have also added to my knowledge base. One of the teens broke a camping lamp in the gazebo, and he was responsible enough to let me know, offering replacerment (which he did at a much later date). I e-mailed my concerns to Cory about what my expectations were with regard to the job and my disappointment with having a crew of teens. Cory had mistakenly told the teens to power wash a section of the large deck which I did not include. He agreed to stain this area but it does not look as if it has been protected. Because of the varying crews of teens, the work reflects their differing styles and abilities and portions of the areas do not look if they have been treated at all. Only the gazebo--which was done in one day by the same teens--looks acceptable. The hail storm was on 6/6/12 and this caused a delay, of course, in completing the deck. The final work is very, very unsatisfactory; and Cory sent his lead worker to remedy this. The young man brought the replacement camping lamp (that he'd broken) and examined the small deck; however, he has not returned to complete the work. There has been no further communication with Cory (to whom I also donated a check for his "ministry" simply because the concept (if true) is admirable)--even though I would not have contracted with a training program. I don't have that kind of money. July 24, 2012 Update:Cory Smith arrived on the agreed day and re-sanded and stained the areas with which we were dissatisfied. He even ingeniously fashioned a plug from a dowel to repair the aforementioned step. He worked diligently and quickly and was a pleasure to have as a contractor.
Description of Work: I contracted with Cory Smith to power wash, scrub, and revive our small deck--to include sanding hand rails to large deck--and to lightly sand gazebo and protect it with stain. Although we discussed Cory's cleaning and treating the deck flooring inside the gazebo, he included in the contract that work was to be done only on the exterior. We even moved items from the floor; however, I neglected to note Cory's wording in the contract because of my preoccupation with impending major surgery. Because I selected this provider, my husband depended solely on me to negotiate the contract. Cory also agreed to plug a hole a step to the larger deck (included in the contract) but did not do so. I failed to note all discrepancies--again because of my preparation for major surgery and because of other contractors that I was hiring to restore our yard after hail damage on 6/6/12. I am just saying that a lower price is not always the best. I had been quoted a price of 4800.00 from another company and they explained in detail what would be done. The ground would have been covered in plastic and this would contain the paint chips. I should have spent the extra money for all of the worry we now have. I hate saying anything negative about situations. Just please make sure you check a company carefully before you use them.
Description of Work: I submitted a report earlier on this company but would like to update that report. As my family lives in another state, we had to proceed with this job sight unseen. We were sent pictures of the job in progress and all seemed well. They were very responsive and polite and finished the job sooner than expected. again, all seemed well until we made a quick trip to the property. Things we noticed were masking tape left on door handles, more masking tape and newspaper covering an outside yard light and paint chips on the ground. I thought at the time these were minor and dismissed them as part of the lower price. Then in March of 2012 my sister made another visit to CS to have gas. water etc.restarted. An older home next to ours had been purchased by a gentleman and was in the process of remodeling, He pointed out the amount of paint chips he had found left between the two houses He had taken an extensive course in removing lead based paint and how dangerous this was. I had called Cory after our first visit and he said he would send someone over to clean this up but it seems he missed these. I got conflicting information as to the importance of keeping the lead paint off of the ground. Colorado EPA laws state that lead based paint must be contained and disposed of properly. For this reason, older homes cannot be sand blasted, but must be scraped. Cory said most of those rules came from California and didn't really apply to Colorado. Here lies in the problem. Who do I believe?

Over all, the job was good. He charged us no money up front and the price was fair for the job done. Lead in the old paint so no sand blasting could be done. Painting the house in 2 colors. Trim was done well. Not as much scraping of old paint as I would have liked but there is now paint on the house, which was what we needed. Clean up was not great as we found old paint buckets in the front yard. These may not have been from Cory as we had some other interior painting done by some other people. I had thought all of the chipped off paint had to be contained due to the lead, but we did find lots of paint chips on the ground. Also still had masking tape on door knobs an outside yard lamp. Please note that this entire job was done over the phone as I live in another state. Cory did all of this without us being there to supervise. I was impressed with that. Adequate job for what he had to start with. Would recommend him!
Description of Work: Exterior house painting. This included power washing, scraping and painting. Taping of windows, door knobs and outside light fixtures. He also removed storm windows to paint inside and then replaced them.

They are still in contact with me because the work based on the weather conditions. Whenever the weather did not allow for work to be done they stayed in contact and kept me updated on what the status was. When they came out they put in some over time because they felt that it was taking too long. I really appreciate that they also offer military discount.
Description of Work: I used Pikes Peak Painting about a week ago and they power washed my wooden fence and re-stained it.
