We love our new deck built by New Creation Decks (NCD) and expect years of carefree use. If the design is straightforward, just about anyone can build a deck. Heck, even I built a deck once. Where New Creation Decks shines is when a customer's project is complex or has design challenges. Ours was such a project. We have two 4' tall retaining walls with the lower wall just a few feet from the rear of our house. One of the companies we called actually declined to submit a quote because they felt our project was too challenging. New Creation Decks was able to overcome the limitations presented by the closeness of the retaining walls and provide us with a large, welcoming deck. New Creation Decks has an architect on staff named Peter Kavanagh. He met with us, discussed our requirements and budget constraints and returned a few days later with CAD drawings of his proposed design from multiple perspectives. Peter's design mirrored the angles of our house and included extending our outdoor living space by adding an ironstone patio adjacent to the deck. Rather than conventional railings, the deck features cables and tempered glass that increase the feeling of openness. The design also features a stone wall face added to the lower retaining wall that incorporated the same stacked stone used in our family room fireplace. New Creation's carpenters executed Peter's vision. It was fun to watch the progress as the CAD drawings came to life. There were delays and issues with the subcontractors responsible for the railings and patio, but NCD promptly and effectively dealt with these issues. After the project was completed, there were a few minor issues, but these were also satisfactorily addressed. Most impressive was when, over a year after our deck was completed, we suffered wind damage to one of the tempered glass railings and NCD still stood behind their work and completed repairs at no charge. It was always a pleasure working with everyone we met from NCD. We appreciated that workers always showed up when expected and kept a clean work site.

We obtained three estimates from different contractors. New Creation has a showroom and options on composite. The price is competitive, not the cheapest, but the cheapest is not always the way to go. Good communication, crew were friendly and cleaned up the job site. This was a smaller job, but we really like the new deck. Would definitely recommend and hire again.

They did a great job with that. They got out immediately and got it done. Everything was done within a week. I would definitely use them again. They are a little bit more pricey than I had expected. The owner of the company was there like the day after I called. I thought that he was very prompt. I think the owner was very punctual and responded to questions. It was very good. He was very prompt and very responsive.

The consultation went great, I had a really good feeling about Matt McCracken. He emailed me on 18 May 2015 stating that he was "getting close to having something prepared for your project." He also asked if I wanted to come into the showroom to see the design or if I wanted him to send the proposal via email. I responded on 21 May 2015 asking him to please send the proposal via email (I wanted to see the design so I could discuss it with my husband who was away at school at the time). Matt McCracken never responded. I sent a follow-up email on 9 June 2015 asking if he sent the project proposal, still no response. I waited and waited, then finally gave up. I had better luck with another company on Angie's List that actually responded and came out to my house with the design proposal. I guess Matt McCracken didn't want my business. From reading the other "F' reviews on New Creation Decks, lack of response equals not interested in the job. **Note to the service provider: I understand that upon request my name and address will be available, please DO NOT contact me.
Description of Work: Matt McCracken came out to our house on 7 May 2015 and made some measurements for a stamped patio, low deck, and pergola for a project proposal.

We love our new deck! Our deck project was relatively small. We were put on their schedule and, due to a variety of problems, they didn't start on time. Not that big of a deal. The first deck builder(s) who showed up didn't seem properly trained or supervised. The company that delivered the deck materials didn't bring the right stuff and placed bags of concrete on our asphalt driveway in the rain. You can guess what happened next: we had concrete permanently attached to our driveway. The primary deck builder was eventually fired, the work he had done was dismantled, and the "A" team was brought in to finish the project. It took about six weeks longer than planned or expected, but we love the finished project! When properly trained and supervised, these guys know how to build a beautiful deck that will last for decades. This company has a lot going on and a lot of big projects. Our small deck got a little lost in all of that, but they eventually stood behind their work and did the right thing. I would use them again.
Description of Work: Built a new composite deck, approx. 144 square feet, with lighting.

The final deck looks good and should last considerably longer than the original due to the materials (composite decking, steel railing, and treated lumber for the frame) and technique. New Creations Decks (NCD) was very good to work with during the pre-contract phase by providing a detailed bid, helping with cost-benefit tradeoffs, providing materials samples, and showing us decking product and colors at their yard. During the project they were generally accessible and responsive. They used subcontractors for the demolition and construction. The NCD project manager was not on-site during the project except at the start and for occasional visits. The project took several weeks longer than expected primarily due to project planning. For example, an old pier had to be removed that was not anticipated but could have been with a more thorough inspection prior to the project start. The patio underneath the deck was also replaced by a separate contractor after substantial completion of the deck and rework of the deck post piers was required prior to the patio pour due to change of plans by NCD and lack of communication with the patio contractor. To NCD's credit, they made deliberate efforts to ensure the deck piers looked good with the new patio - and they do. The pier for the spiral staircase also had to be modified after it was poured resulting in some of embedded mounting bolts coming loose when the spiral was attached. The spiral staircase was customer made by JP Welding & Ironwork, working as a subcontractor and JP was very good to work with excellent commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. They came up with a good solution for a non-slip coating for the tread surface that will also extend the life of the powder coat finish. The only issue with the staircase was that the powder coat finish did not match the deck rails as promised by NCD and this expectation should have been set properly in the beginning. Two follow up visits were required to complete minor details after the project was finished but NCD responded to a single request in both cases. In general they were enjoyable to work with and I feel they are committed to a quality outcome. Project started July 7, deck complete July 29, stairs installed September 8.
Description of Work: Demolished old deck (12x12), built slightly larger new deck (12x15), built and installed a new steel spiral staircase.

There were many variables to consider due to the uncertainty of costs and whether all of our ideas would fit into our budget. Steve asked for a week to provide an estimate which seemed reasonable. Pictures of deck design and materials were sent to him to assist in the process. A week after the initial consultation an e-mail was received stating that the estimate was almost complete and should be ready the following day. It is now seven weeks later and there has been no further company-initiated communication. Steve and Jessie (because he answered the NCD line) were each contacted separately requesting an update. The F rating is due to the company's lack of reliability and responsibility to follow through on their word which undermines confidence in their potential. Valuable time in the prime season for deck-building and use was lost. Since many reviews were positive we were willing to wait-and-see. Communication of disinterest in a project is a consumer expectation so that timely alternate plans can be made and this was not provided. If a simple rectangular deck with few options is what is desired this may be the company for you. If a custom designed deck with unique features is desired, a company that specializes in custom design is likely a better fit. We have been fortunate to find the latter and will report on this experience once the work is complete.
Description of Work: Steve came to our home and spent a couple of hours gathering information to provide an estimate on the removal of two structurally unsound wood decks/stairs and replacing with composite decking, railing, stairs, one vaulted ceiling/roof, one underside enclosure for storage, deck lighting, a gas firepit, and resurfacing and expansion of existing patio.

Our 30 year old 1100 sq' deck is long past due for replacement. We plan on keeping the same footprint using composite material and metal railings. The ledger board, posts, joists, and headers may all need to be replaced. Steve was very professional and I don't doubt they would do a great job, but the estimate was beyond our budget.

Excellent job! Matt, the boss/designer, is a true pro -- he took my initial plan and turned it into an attractive and functional addition to our home. One of my motivations in choosing him from among three other bidders was the professionalism of his design; yes, it was created on computer, but it was completely labeled, with elevations plus a 3-D rendition and a materials list. None of his competitors went to that trouble. His crew ({"Vic" and assistant) were amazing craftsmen. To accommodate a tree trunk, they shaped the top railing of the deck without damaging either the tree or the overall aesthetic of the design--it seems to flow! The major part of the project was completed in less than a week. Powder-coating the window-well grates took another week. The crew was meticulous in maintaining a clean work site; every day, they cleared away tools and debris (they parked a dumpster in front of the house). Despite the daily rain showers, they managed to put in 7-8 hour days, making quick work of my project. They were pleasant, cheerful, and courteous. The only possible criticism I could muster is that on Labor Day, two crew guys showed up to finish the below-deck screening. It was a surprise, given the holiday, but since we were anxious to have the job finished, I let them go ahead. When I mentioned it to Matt, he apologized profusely and said he would remind his crew about calling first. Because the existing concrete stoop leading from the kitchen door was badly deteriorated, I decided to eliminate that access from the deck; unfortunately, the concrete (dating from 1957) could not be entirely removed (see my review for Flat & Fancy Concrete). Matt and I devised a method of screening off the underside of the deck area; not only did this hide and unattractive mound of concrete, it provided a useful new storage area for garden tools, supplies, etc. The deck is composite material, and the guys who assembled the deck and put on the finishing touches did a splendid job. The guy who did the final painting of framework made a special trip to Home Depot to get a customized color match! After the recoated grills were put in place, there was a slight discrepancy in level--the grates were not flush against the floor of the deck. One call to Matt and the problem was resolved by day's end. BOTTOM LINE: if you need a deck, call Matt at New Creations! I'm only sorry I don't have need of another deck. Perhaps a gazebo?
Description of Work: Designed and constructed new deck (approx 15x20). Work included demolition/removal of existing deck, installation of new supporting pylons, screening of open area below the deck, installation of metal railings, powder-coating existing window well grates to match new railings.

I requested a quote from New Creation Decks. Matt McCracken came to the house and took the measurements and in a timely manner provided a quote. The quote included a 3-D rendering which allowed my wife and I to visualize our new deck. I met Matt at a coffee shop to sign the contract a put down an advance on the project. Matt told me up front that there would be a wait before they could start but the actually started early and completed the removal of the old deck very quickly. John and Daniel (brothers) woke in building my new deck. There were a couple of times where they recommended deviating from the original plan and contacted me to discuss and get approval before making the changes. One design request proved to be unworkable and Matt came out and discussed alternatives with us a we came up with an acceptible change that my wife and I both love. When John and Daniel were complete Matt came out one more time to review the work. We were all very satisfied with the end results. The cleanup was complete and my new deck is fantastic. We could not be happier.

Ryan and his team were a pleasure to work with throughout the project. Not only was the work professionally done the New Creations Team was engaging and friendly. I completed the demolition and removal of the old decking and framing and Ryan and team took over after that. The work was completed during the December/January time frame without an impact on quality. Throughout the project Ryan was responsive to any modifications that inevitably come up in a project such as this. We have been very pleased with the deck since it was completed. One minor issue with a lose decking board and trim piece was quickly corrected when we called Ryan. We would certainly use Ryan and New Creation Decks again in the future.

We originally intended to build a larger composite deck with two stairways into the yard and a bench along one side, but finally settled on a smaller deck with one stairway and no bench, since the cost of our original idea was greater than we had expected. New Creation was very attentive to our budget requirements and worked with us every step of the way to come up with a design that met our needs. The quality of their work was excellent, and they were always punctual and professional. We have enjoyed the deck for 8 months now with no problems of any kind.

Matt came out in the Evening to discuss our plans of putting up a deck over our improperly done flagstone/cement patio we currently have. First thought was to have a deck built to span the complete back of our house w/ a pergola where we walk out of the dining/kitchen area. The goal was to allow us to build a walkout area from our bedroom to enjoy the beautiful mountain views. Matt was very helpful in providing inputs and thoughts of what might work. He completed his estimate and emailed us drawings and estimate. We tend to work on paying with Cash and was counting on the sale of our RV to pay for the project. The scale of what my wife wanted and budget didn't quite merge together well. So Matt took my scaled down drawing and re-accomplished his estimate in a few days. Basically a nice size 360 sq/ft composite deck/cedar pergola and 8x8 spa pad. We waited for the completion of RV sale. Wish we had put it up in the Spring (couldn't since we were living in it). RV didn't sell for what we thought it would. We have put the project on hold until we can save up the remainder of the dollars. We would definitely use Matt and his team again. Very open and forthright on what they could do to help us get a product we could enjoy and the upkeep would be minimal. Thanks

The work has been completed and was done to the specifications that we agreed upon. There were a couple instances where I was not satisfied but they corrected those without question. In doing their work, they accidentally broke a sprinkler head, which they replaced. They chipped some stucco while installing the deck, which they repaired. I found them to be professional in all matters. The crew that actually built the deck (John & Daniel) are brothers and worked very well together. They were polite, professional and hard working. They cleaned up after themselves each day before leaving and would spend approximately 7 to 8 hours a day working. I would have no problem using them for another project
