MTD Construction

If you want to work with someone who's going to be honest with you and do good work at a decent price, MTD is a good company to work with. Matt, the owner, listens to people, and if there's a problem he gets it corrected. He's very good about doing it right the first time.

This was a simple job - removal of old cabinets in a mudroom and installation of new ones. What we experienced was failure to read (or follow) CAD designs, stunningly inept carpentry, and sociopathic text exchanges with Matt, the owner He's incompetent, a bully, and a liar. The work was done well. This is the first time I have hired someone for a remodel for years after having a bad experience several years ago. There were a few moments when I was concerned about the quality of work, however once bringing these concerns up, each of them was addressed in a timely manner and to my satisfaction.

MTD Construction is an example of professionalism, quality workmanship, timeliness and trustworthiness. The quality and professionalism of the work accomplished is seen in Matt's team and himself. My deck is phenomenal and the kitchen, beyond my expectations and beautiful. Matt exceeded my expectations in all projects and would highly recommend to anyone and will use him for future projects. My original project started as a kitchen remodel with a new composite deck with lighting. Due to water damage from our rain and hailstorms, it became obvious that new house siding was needed. I elected with stuccoing the house, install of stamped, colored concrete patio with sidewalk and finally a new driveway. Even with the additional projects, all was completed within two months. What more could I ask for and even my neighbor had him install wooden oak floors for her just this week. MTD Construction -- Matt Dagostino, (Owner), listens to the customer, professional, extremely qualified and would be an asset to your project. Above all, Matt’s excellent work ethic is seen in both himself and his team.

Matt and his crew were all great! Matt kept me in the loop, time line and estimate were fair and followed. I’d hire Matt again in a heartbeat!

We hired Matt and MTD to rebuild the basement at a rental property, after we stripped it down to install a water-abatement system. MTD was one of the more expensive bids, but we were happy that it theoretically included everything (minus a handful of specific items, like tiles and the vanity for the bathroom), and Matt seemed to know what he was talking about, and was someone with whom we could work well. I appreciated his sense of humor. Matt estimated the project to take between 3-6 weeks. It took 6 months! We did decide to have some work done to the exterior plumbing which could (charitably) explain maybe a week's delay. There were also some COVID issues, with some workers not being able to make it, which was reasonable under the circumstances. But the primary issue was the management of the project. Things were done in bizarre and crazy order, requiring drywall to be put up, then taken down, then put up again. Weeks would pass when nobody showed up (it turned out that they were working on a multitude of other projects), or they would show up for a little while, then turn around and leave. We would discuss how we wanted something done, then discover that it was done in a completely different way. Sometimes this was because Matt's communication with his subs was poor, and sometimes it was because Matt would just decide to do something different without talking to us. But often it was just that so much time passed that things were simply forgotten. In the end, the basement turned out quite well. There are a few details with which I wasn't happy, and some out-and-out mistakes that we had to correct ourselves (fortunately my renter was quite skilled). We also ended up paying for more things than I believed we should have (some of this was my fault for not requiring the contract to be more explicit).

Matt and his team did am amazing job, the deck is on that my family will enjoy for years to come.

We took bids for our bathroom and kitchen for a full remodel. MTD was competitive, the main reason we chose them was our perception of the company and owner Matt. We are extremely pleased with the outcome of all areas of the house we did. This was no small job. Matt's team of professionals were polite and did a fantastic job. They really listened to me and tried to give me exactly what I wanted. We removed a large wall and gutted the kitchen completely and 2 main bathroom on the 2nd floor. Matt coordinated his team with precision, from the debris removal, framers, drywall, installers, electricians, cabinet installers, painters to finished carpentry. We are so pleased with the finished product. We will use him and his company again in the future. Thank you for changing our home We love it

Disclosure: I have experienced subpar restaurants, hotels and services but have never written a negative review before. However I feel that I need to give the general public heads up about GC Matt Dagastino. Recap: Quality of work: horrible; examples: tile floor had to be replaced twice before it was finally level, rooms painted five times to cover all the missed spots, touch ups used wrong color, two new windows installed at different height, new door installed at wrong height leaving big gap below, damaged refrigerator by work crew, new floor still damaged by painters Time to finish job: less than half of work days had someone actually show up to work on the project, Matt repeatedly forgot to order items necessary for the job, forgot, ignored agreed upon design, had no clue the sequence that needs to be followed. His crew rarely showed up on time, days agreed on Finance: project cost was twice as much as original estimate, GC refused to disclose detailed bill, refused to disclose the contact info on architect that supposedly requested a major change in the way the project was done Attitude: rude, disrespectful and dishonest man, always blaming others. He makes you believe he is your boss, you have no saying or right for justice, very unpleasant experience Bottom line: Do yourself a favor, find someone else. (all of the above can be proved by 100s of text messages, emails and other documents)

I hired this company nine months ago to rebuild the deck on the backside of my house. The owner kept making a plan, but then stated he had to change that plan for completion for one reason or another. He stated I was responsible for paying for all of the changes. I never received a floor plan, but I naïvely pay the full cost upfront in order to avoid any more “up charges” for his continued mistakes. It turns out that his plans kept changing because he was trying to take shortcuts and reuse materials that were already present. He was supposed to pull a permit and never did, until I got a lawyer involved. He still hasn’t had the inspection completed. Not to mention, during the process he received a bad review online, which he believed was made by my 12-year-old daughter. He insisted that it was her, and has been rude and condescending to my entire family since that point. What’s more disappointing is the quality of his work, which is horrible. I found Matt on another online service matching homeowners with professional services and I am thrilled to have hired him! From our initial meeting through the end of the project (2), Matt's vision, knowledge, ideas and quality of work were appreciated! Tile work is all about planning. During our initial meeting, he pointed out that because of the tile I chose for the kitchen back-splash (patterned), it would be best if I raised the island bar height in order to get a full tile run. I have a small bathroom and he made key suggestions as to the direction of the tile to make the space look bigger (see picture below). Storage was also a challenge in the bathroom and he had a cabinet made with a drawer to replace the narrow medicine cabinet. Along with Matt's professionalism, he is very easy going and positive. Remember, contractors are in your space for an amount of time, and it's important they have good energy!

Very well...Matt is personable, professional and meticulous. During our installation he found several fairly significant safety issues with the work previously done. He was able to come up with strong solutions quickly and economically, in addition to completing the railing installation. We love our new railing and feeling secure now about the deck! We are starting a new bathroom renovation with him this month. He is an A+++ contractor who provides excellent services and work.
