+ 1 moreWe were extremely pleased with the project from the initial consulting phase through ultimate completion. We solicited a total of three bids. Kenwood's was by far the most complete as well as most affordable. We were able to replace both decks to a level of our satisfaction for almost the same cost either of the competitors wanted to replace just one deck. Ken met with us multiple times before we signed a contract, making sure we had a design and plan that fitted our needs. One of the things we most appreciated was that Ken did nearly all of the work on the project. He was here personally, working, every day of the project. He had only one helper. He probably did 80% to 90% of the work himself. In our experience with contractors on other major projects, the person who "sold" us the project was rarely the one to do the work, which sometimes created problems. Not so in this case. There were no surprises (which is a good thing!). We feel confident in saying that what is discussed and agreed to during the consulting and planning stage (before the contract is actually signed) is what will actually happen. We were extremely pleased with Ken's professionalism and continuous communication throughout the project (regarding necessary changes to the plans, selection of alternate materials, work schedule changes, etc.). He was attentive to the smallest detail (like always being sure not to block the driveway or always removing any trash the he created at or brought to the work site). He bent over backwards to work with a supplier he normally did not do business with to make sure we got the exact decking material we wanted at the appropriate price. This was a MAJOR expense for us and our standards and expectations for the project were quite high. We're please to say Ken met or exceeded them in every case.
Description of Work: Replaced two large, deteriorating, wooden decks on our home with decks composed of composite materials.. One deck was approximately 250 sq ft and the other approximately 300 sq ft. One deck required complete replacement (concrete footings, 4x4 supports, joists, as well as decking and railing materials--destruction and removal of old deck as well as replacement with new composite materials). Other deck required removal of old deck and railing and replacement with composite material and metal railing. Both decks involved removal of/construction of stairs (in one case a staircase consisting of ten steps).
