George Dovolis, aka Creative Design Services, a company registered to his wife, Hollie Dovolis. First of all, George is NOT a licensed contractor - sadly, we did not discover that until well into the remodel. The work involved removing a wall for expansion, installing three small windows, installing cabinets and granite counter tops. My husband did the design plan so George didn't have to do that. Most of “his” work involves bringing in other crews to do the work. He had two guys that helped with demolition of the wall. He had several crews to do sheetrock, another guy to help with paint and a licensed electrician. The crews are like revolving doors – different ones each time. Not knowing who is coming into my home is unsettling to us. I have a clothing work room that I requested remain as dust free as possible but I also requested addition of LED lighting. The electrician left almost no dust behind but then, while George was away for a day, one of his crews came in and sprayed texture in the basement where that room is AND in that room. That resulted in dry cleaning for some of the clothing and several loads of laundry. Texture was also sprayed all over my furniture and on some heirloom paintings. The damage to those paintings remains as he cleaned them with water and paper towels. They’re not replaceable – the artist is dead. We spent 18 weeks waiting for cabinet installation in the kitchen because George could not get the order correct. This is important because all of the cabinetry have to be in place before it can be measured for granite. We had to borrow a cabinet from Home Depot to put in the space for which we were waiting for the last cabinet, a cookie sheet cabinet that was ordered the first-time cabinets were ordered. He did not install Z-flashing over the windows, which is important to keep moisture from damaging the siding. He tried on one window and that was an epic failure and remains a crumpled mess. One more thing we will have to fix on our own. His installation of one cabinet was so incorrect that there was more than an inch gap from the soffit on one side and the cabinet was up into the soffit by about an inch on the other side when the cabinet was level. We had to fix that problem. The cabinet he hung over the refrigerator had 2-inch gaps on both sides – his solution was to use really long screws to span the gaps, four of them, two on each side. We did not discover that until we pulled the refrigerator out to install tile. I was horrified as I had already loaded things into that cabinet and one of those items was a heavy crockpot. Many of the screws he used on the cabinets were stripped and did not hit anything but drywall. He ordered our appliances but the refrigerator was late. When I inquired, he said it was on a slow boat from China and then his story changed to, “they’re not making that model any more so they’re not shipping it” and then I found out with the help from a manager at Lowe’s that he never even ordered our refrigerator. He tried to charge us $3898.00 for it but the one we wanted, and thought he ordered, was $1800.00. We finally had enough of the blunders and fired him before the granite installation. We went elsewhere for our granite – the best part of our remodel. Some things to consider before you ever think about hiring him: he is NOT a licensed contractor, his wife owns the company but George provides and signs the contracts (which are legally insufficient), his work is sub-standard at best, has scope creep, and overall is just absolutely horrible. When you discover things going wrong, his wife steps in so he can hide behind her skirt. This guy is dishonest and he’s a thief. Watch your money. Order your own appliances and pay for them yourself. Also, pay for your own cabinets and granite. He’s in it for the points he racks up to take vacations at your expense.
