A plan was made showing what I wanted done, how much money I had to spend, what I could choose and helped me understand the process of the complete bathroom remodel project. They require a portion of the payment up front, payments at certain intervals of the project and keep a running notebook of what is being done. This notebook is also used for the customer to provide feedback or ask questions. If there is anything out of the ordinary, they call you and let you know immediately. Once the job is complete, they do a walkthrough with you and make sure you are completely satisfied.
Description of Work: Dream Maker Kitchen and Bath worked with me to remodel a bathroom. They kept all cost within my budget and showed me where I could save money in order to do the job correctly and cost efficiently. I would definitely recommend them and would definitely use them again when the need arises.

They did a great job. They worked with me step by step, through the process to make sure I was happy with everything. They were so conscientious and willing to come back and fix the little things. I have nothing but good things to say. They were very professionally organized, great communication, they stayed within their budget. They even helped remove my popcorn ceilings and did their best to get all the little debris. The project manger came out of the first day to shovel the street so the big truck could get through, and they even took a look at my roof for me after a storm we had. You couldn't work with a better group of people, and I couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: They redid my entire kitchen.

We went to their showroom to discuss a simple bathroom remodel. When we got there, we were greeted kindly by the owner's wife; then by the owner moments later. Upon sitting down we began discussing what we envisioned for our new bathroom. As soon as we started to talk about our plans, the man we spoke with made a face that seemed to say "you're crazy". We felt rushed out the door as soon as we mentioned wanting to do any work ourselves. I understand this company does design and remodels, but we're hands-on homeowners and wanted an opportunity to work with a company that could remodel our bathroom. And we also wanted to save some money, where possible. After that moment, the man was very condescending and made us feel like we were wasting his time. By the end of the consultation, we were told it would cost us nearly $20,000 to do a SIMPLE remodel, which I was floored by. No thank you, DreamMaker. Based solely on how we were treated during our consultation, I would never do business with this company.

The communication was poor and workmanship was not up to par. The bathroom remodel was started in June of last year (2013) and it should have lasted 3 weeks. We understood that things happen, however it was not completed until mid August because the lead carpenter quit and we were not informed that this would affect our project (I had to call and ask when my bathroom would be completed). One of the main things that have bothered us is that when the new lights and mirrors were put in the hole for the new lights was not in the proper spot and this caused us to pay over $200 to get the electrician back out to our house to move the lights. It is not the homeowners responsibility to take measurements or make sure that everything is centered, yet we ended up paying for it. Since the completion of our bathroom the heated floor had to be redone because the floor had a cold zone and an extremely hot zone (120* when the thermostat was set at 83*). Also the drain on one of the vanities started leaking and that was due to the wrong type of drains being installed. There is still some tile work that needs to be fixed and hopefully that will be done soon. I will give kudos to the lead carpenter that is cleaning up the mess that was made of our bathroom. He has gone above and beyond to make up for the poor business that we have experienced from DreamMaker.

Things did not go well. First, the owners' attitude/demeanor was too self-assured, and he behaved as if we had to earn the right to use his company as our contractor. Dreammaker does not provide itemized quotes--as soon as he told me this he basically lost our interest. Our need for an itemized quote wasn't so important for nickel and diming and playing contractors against each other (as he must have thought), but was necessary for us to do basic budgeting, since we'd never remodeled a kitchen. For instance, wouldn't it be nice to know that our choice in countertops cost $5000 and we'd be perfectly happy with another variety for $3000? Without an itemized quote this is impossible. Note that I have no problems with itemized quotes that are marked up with contractor profit/overhead, as long as I am able to compare things within the quote. We were asked to describe our ideal kitchen, which we did. Nothing too complicated and no fancy extras. New floors, new cabinets, countertops, raise the ceiling, new light fixtures. We were then asked what we thought a reasonable budget for this was--I said $30k. The owner (Mark I think) then went on to tell us how this is not reasonable and we needed to get our expectations in line for something more like $50k. Needless to say, several other contractors provided us quotes in the $25k - $30k ballpark so I knew he was full of it. We have finished our project with one of these others--everything is great and we are totally happy. I think Dreammaker's business model must be to keep customers in the dark on costs. Also, an interesting tidbit that also ruined Dreammaker's chances at earning our business: During our meeting with Mark it came up somehow that my wife was a lawyer--he then proceeded to ask her if she was a "real" lawyer. What does that even mean? Obviously this sexist attitude didn't fly with my wife! Don't poke the bear! Dreammaker was very responsive before our meeting but all communication ceased afterwards--not even a followup phone call, which surprised me, since we didn't tell them outright that we wouldn't use them. Perhaps they pegged us as savvy consumers and not their target customers? I would not recommend anybody even bother meeting with Dreammaker.
Description of Work: We were looking at remodeling a kitchen on a property we recently purchased. We met with Dreammaker to discuss their capabilities and the overall process. We did not ever receive a formal quote, but some budgetary numbers were thrown around.

[member name removed], First I want to personally apologize to you and your wife, [member name removed], regarding the real lawyer comment. It has been a couple of months since the appointment and I cannot remember the exact context of the conversation, but my response evidently came across very insensitive. Let me assure you it was not meant to be sexist or demeaning in any way. Sometimes my very dry wit can come across callous. Obviously it did in this case. I humbly ask for your forgiveness for how that came across. As for the balance of your concerns and comments I will explain our process and let the reader decide if that is of interest to them. Our normal process is that we start by inviting a potential client into our showroom. This first appointment last about 1 to 1 ½ hours. We state up front at the beginning of this appointment that we want to determine from both sides if this is a good fit to move forward. We realize we are not going to be a good fit for everyone. We want to be able to answer their questions. We will be asking a few questions also. We also spend time discussing what type of changes they would like to make. And why that is important to them. Of course as part of that we need to discuss are investment ranges that would make sense for them and one that we can deliver a complete, quality project and the great experience they deserve. To do this we pull on 25 years of past experience and will also reference Remodeling Magazine’s Cost vs Value Report. We show this report to potential clients because it shows the average costs of remodeling projects done by professional remodelers of Colorado Springs during 2013 and return on investment figures. For instance, for Colorado Springs, Remodeling Magazine’s Cost vs. Value report shows a mid-range major kitchen remodel as $52,190 and a mid-range kitchen national average of $53,931 with a 70.1% ROI. During this first meeting we also spend time describing our process of continuing forward and particulars of who, what and how the project actually gets done down to how we manage the day to day activities and assume full responsibility for the project. At the end of this meeting, there can be various outcomes: One could be that the potential client and I come to the decision that our company is not the right fit for them. Also, there are times the potential client doesn't give a definite no or yes to moving forward. Perhaps is not quite sure and needs time to digest all the information. In those cases I do not like to be a pest, AKA phone solicitor, and it is left it up to the client to call back with their decision. I will call them back if they specifically request me to call and follow up for that decision on a given day and time. Another outcome is where the potential client invites us out to their home to verify site conditions, gather information needed for detailed designing and estimating. To proceed further we ask for a project retainer. This is a small fee based on the size and scope of the project. The retainer is applied to the first payment of an actual construction contract. This starts our design and selection process which we work in depth with the client to develop a design and make detailed product choices that meets their individual needs and investment range. (In cases where the potential client and I do not get close enough to a signed agreement/retainer, I do not give away a detailed estimate because of the considerable amount of time, resources and energy required to arrive at a thorough, detailed estimate). When we are done with the design and selection process we have a complete detailed scope of work defined down to the paint, grout colors, exact, hardware, cabinet and countertops. This is presented in a fixed price proposal. Once the contract is signed we order cabinets, tile and any item that can order ahead of time so they are on site before we start the removal of existing kitchen or bath. We utilize what we call a lead carpenter, best described as a working project manager to manage the project through the actually construction. He is a direct employee and we conduct background checks etc. as part of our hiring process. We stand behind our work. We want our clients not to worry about who they should call if something comes up for years to come. They only need to make one call. Finally, anyone can check recommendations of our countless past clients by going to our website www.DreamMakerCS.com or visiting www.GuildQuality.com (an independent, 3rd party customer satisfaction surveying company) to see that 96% of our clients would recommend us to their friends and family.

We moved back into our house after living away from it for 8 years...and the kitchen was as ugly as when we first bought the house. After installing new carpet, the kitchen became our #1 home improvement project. My husband first met Markand Deb w/DreamMakers at a home improvement show. The first thing we liked about DreamMakers was they coordinate the whole project...from design to purchase to contractors to subcontracts. Being new to Colorado Springs again we didn't want to have to 'cross our fingers' in hiring contractors, etc. Second choice in going with DreamMakers was design. Designing a new layout for the ktichen was something we could not figure out. The size, entry doors, traffic flow in-and-out of the kitchen were restrictive. As a military family, we've lived in 12 different homes and knew what we did and did not want in our kitchen, and it was a great relief to sit down with Mark and give him our list and see our new kitchen appear. Our lead contractor, Lane, was great. Always kept my wife informed on what was going on, who was coming into the house, etc. He also took the extra steps to help her allergies/asthma stay under control by sealing off the upstairs from construction and warning her when fumes or dust could affect her. The electricans, plumber, painter, and flooring installers all had professional connections with DreamMakers so our lead contractor knew what kind of work they should do and did do. We never felt uncomfortable or unsafe letting any of these contractors in our home. They were all polite, consider, professional, and even entertaining! We just took our 'AFTER' photos and compared them to our 'BEFORE' photos - the difference is amazing. Our new kitchen is fabulous. We look forward to using DreamMaker and their contractors again for our Master Bath remodel and 3rd Bathroom Install!!

I have previously had work done by them and they were great. They did a great job. I told them what my budget was and I was able to tell where to stop and where to commence work. They took care of the work cost wise. They were very helpful and brought through their standards of remodeling. I learnt a lot from them. The subcontractors who talked to me thought me a lot. They were very loyal to their company. There was only one plumbing mistake, which I did not find out for a long time. Overall, they were fine. They put the shower regulators upside down. I will have to pull all the tiles out to get that corrected. I would rate them a B because of that. They were here when they said they would be here. They were professional. I will use them in the future.

Suffice it to say that they quoted us $25-30,000 for this project (using their "economical" finishes- low end tile and laminate) and we have finished it for $8,000 (with porcelain tile and granite) using other contractors who we also found on Angie's List. Dreammaker Bath is for folks with a lot of money who don't want much to show for it. They are extremely overpriced. Another very reputable general contractor from Angie's List quoted us less than half of their price.
Description of Work: Provided an estimate for our small master bathroom remodel (replacing tile, countertop, hardware, etc.) This did not include moving any fixtures or plumbing. Our bathroom is just under 60 sqft.

The job went well, despite the difficulties in fitting a tub the exact width of the bathroom into the existing space! The job took a little longer than expected because of unexpected water damage that was found, but they did a great job fixing that up, and correcting the mistakes made on earlier work that caused the water damage.
Description of Work: They replaced our existing bathtub with a new spa tub, ran new electrical, fixed up the tiles, etc.
