We received 4 estimates from different very reputable moving companies. They were all in a similar range for the services which included packing and moving from Colorado Springs to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Somehow we settled on Armstrong, as the agent and the estimate were solid (didn't go for the lowest bidder--there is too much at stake here). But the price difference wasn't that much among the different companies. The agent that made the estimate was thorough and provided valuable advice for keeping costs down, as well as knowing what to have them pack and have us pack. Moving estimates are based on weight, and the estimated weight and the final weight were only about 100 # apart, which is amazing given that the total weight was about 16,000 #. The agent delivered boxes as promised, and kept us involved in the process. The packers (three ladies) arrived the day before the moving company arrived and packed the entire kitchen, dining room (and all breakables), all the artwork, and the big screen TV. They were expert and not a single item that they packed arrived broken. On the day of the load out, the driver, who is in charge of the move, arrived with the moving van and a crew. They got everything loaded as promised. We have moved several times previously, and this was the best driver/manager we have experienced. The delivery in New Hampshire (2,000 miles) was on the day promised, and everything arrived in great condition. There were a few minor broken items, but they were all repairable. We had purchased the no-deductible insurance, and really didn't need to do so, since there was so little damage. We had agreed to a variable price contract (which would allow the final price to vary if the weight varied from the estimate). Since the estimate was right on target, the final price paid was the same as the estimate. I was able to pay by American Express, and collect a lot of Skymiles in the process! All in all, this was the best moving experience we have had, and would recommend Armstrong without reservation.

The people with whom we dealt at Armstrong were great, but the actual movers were not.

The packers sent to our home were slow in their duties and horrible in their packing skills. As I unpacked boxes, I both laughed and cried at the way they packed things and how many items arrived cracked or broken. The company did not use bubble wrap which would have saved so many items from breaking, including the glass in an antique china cabinet. The communication during days of transit of our furniture was poor. I had to initiate a call on delivery day when our truck did not arrive as scheduled. The unpacking was just as bad as items were found to be damaged again and again. A step in our 1892 home staircase was chipped by the unpackers, to which I commented: "Well, imagine how many times people have moved in and out since 1892, and you are the first ones to damage a step!" With a thousand dollar deductible, we decided it was useless to try to quantify all the little breaks and cracks and turn in a damage report. Quite frankly, we were anxious to put this nightmare behind us. I asked to speak with the person in charge, and I did tell him our tale of horror. He assured me he would look into it and also try to find our tv remote (which you would think would be packed with the tv, but no) and get back to me. Well, that was mid-February, and I think I have given them enough time to respond. I have not been contacted since. So, bad packing, bad communication, bad care of personal goods, bad unpacking, and bad follow up. That pretty much sums it up!

It went well overall. Our packers were not able to pack us completely which made it harder for the movers when they came. Overall, for us it was the move from h***, but Armstrong did an okay job and got us moved in. The only problem we had was the same crew that moved us did not unload us and the copier was tipped and spilled toner all over the carpet. So crews don't talk to each other. But they had a carpet cleaner out right away and so that was taken care of and the carpet looks good.
Description of Work: The company picked up our belongings and dropped some off to storage and kept some on the truck. The people who came did a professional job and were quite helpful. One sticking point was they would not crate or pack artwork and we had too much for their "art cart" to hold. But they were able to keep our belongings on the truck until we were able to move in to our new place when our closing was postponed.

From the packing team, the driver and the unloading team the service was first-rate. All of the employees had a great attitude and were pleasant to be around. They were very cognizant of our needs and would consult us on all issues that they came across. The only negative was that it took 4 days to pack us. But the packing was very good. While there is always some damage, we've had minimal incidents. We've moved many times over our careers and Armstrong ranks right up there. We would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Armstrong moved us from Texas to Colorado Springs.
