Prior to performing the contracted work, Mr. Reeves failed to obtain the required permits from Pikes Peak Regional Building Department. I personally did not know that permits were required. This is the responsibility of the contractor. This oversight was discovered when another company came to do routine maintenance on the furnaces and noticed that several things did not appear to meet code and that it was apparent that no inspection had been done. I verified this with Pikes Peak Regional Building Department, providing them with documentation of our contract, payment, etc. They investigated and determined that in in fact, the required permits had not been obtained and the inspection had not been done. The building department then contacted Mr. Reeves who was then required to obtain the permits, bring the work up to current code and obtain the required inspections. To put it bluntly, getting the work done was like pulling teeth. His behavior was extremely passive-aggressive. I had to call him for each step of the way. One would think that a professional person would want to correct mistakes as quickly as possible, but I had to nag to get him to come to do the repairs. He did not bother to take the initiative to call PPRBD after the work was done. I had to call and ask if he had done it and nag to get that done. Once he finally did that, the inspectors came and found that the work still had not been done in a manner that met the requirements of current codes. . I had to nag him to return. He was usually late. After the required changes were made to fix the code violations, once again he did not bother to call PPRBD to request a follow-up inspection. I had to call and nag to get him to do it. It was much the same on the Air Conditioning units. When I called PPRBD after Mr. Reeves had worked on them to bring them up to current code, I found that he had listed the permits as replacement of AC units and not NEW AC units. (The permits for replacement units are cheaper. I do not know if he was trying to save himself some money, or if this was just a mistake.) As before, his work did not meet code after initial repairs and he had to return to correct his errors. As with the furnaces, he failed to notify PPRBD that he had completed the work and was ready to have it inspected. Once again, I had to call and nag him to do it. While superficially, he was very polite, he was also extremely obstreperous. This whole process took three months! I found his lack of professionalism and failure to take responsibility for his work to be extremely annoying. I would NEVER recommend his company and you can be certain that I will NEVER use him again.
Description of Work: We contracted with Alpine Heating and Air Conditioning, NOW KNOW AS REEVES HEATING AND INDOOR COMFORT to replace 2 furnaces and install 2 new air conditioners.

Jim Reeves and Alpine were very helpful during the bidding process and gave us every reason to have confidence in their work. As soon as they were awarded the job, however, we were shocked by their performance. Everything was installed in a shoddy and make-shift manner, using duct tape, epoxy and black marker. The wrong thermostat was installed. The air conditioning never worked properly and still doesn't. Our calls to Jim Reeves were not returned in a timely manner. The work didn't pass inspection twice. On the 3rd go-round we gave up and simply took the door to the laundry room off its hinges, allowing the inspector to consider the room no longer a room, so he could approve the installation.
Description of Work: We received a new HVAC system with humidifier and air purifier for our home from this firm. The job was paid for by a grant from a third party and was awarded to Alpine on a competitive bid basis.
