Description of Work: In mid-December 2012, my wife and I purchased a hot tub. It required that we run a 60-foot length of No. 6 gauge wire from our electric panel to a disconnect switch to be installed next to the hot tub and a short length of the same wire from the disconnect to the hot tub. I found Robert’ Home Repair LLC (“Robert’s”) on Angie’s List and contacted them to run the line. The electrician was a nice guy who had just started with Robert’s two weeks earlier. He verbally quoted 5 hours labor at $75/hr. ($375) and $450 for the materials, although he said he had not ordered No. 6 gauge for some time. That same morning we received a call from a Mary Roberts stating she wanted to bill $1,000 to our credit card as a security deposit to which we agreed. Then later that same day after the work was completed, she emailed us an invoice for the 5 hours of labor, but instead of the $450 for materials the price she gave was $877 for a total of $1,252.66. Given the significant discrepancy in the material cost, I called for a copy of the bills for the materials. Shortly, following my call, Mary sent me an amended invoice indicating Robert’s had returned $100 of unneeded material to Lowe’s and credited me that amount against the $1,252. I reiterated my request for a legible copy of the invoice. The first copy I received by email from Mary was folded in half and difficult to read. I then sent her several emails requesting a more legible copy of the Lowe’s bill and finally after not receiving one stopped by Lowe’s and asked for a copy, which to my surprise they immediately provided. What it showed was that Robert’s had purchased a 500 foot roll of No. 6 wire for $0.51/foot for total price of $260. Lowe’s explained that purchasing an entire 500 foot roll resulting in a 50% discount off the regular price of $1.02 per foot for less than 500 foot quantities. The job required an 80 foot run of 4 strands of the No. 6 wire (240 v.) or about 320 feet. Notwithstanding Robert’s had paid a total of $260 for the wire, it charged me for the entire 500 ft. at the non-discounted price of $520 plus tax. The actual price should have been 320 feet times $0.51/ft. or $163. When I orally confronted Mary by phone about the discrepancy, she became irate and said she would turn the matter over to her attorney. I then asked for his name and immediately placed a call for him. He never returned my call. Instead, two and half months later--last week-- after several follow-up emails to him, I finally received a letter that made no sense at all and failed to explain the discrepancy. I decided it wasn’t worth the hassle to file a lawsuit and that this feedback on Angie’s List was a better way to warn other unsuspecting customers of Robert’s and Mary’s deceitful sales tactics. Beware!

Description of Work: The rain gutter on my two-story home had become damaged, to the point that water was cascading out in the mid-point of the roof and sending water onto the deck below. The Roberts Home Repair representative corrected the slope angle on the gutter, reattached it, and caulked it to ensure that it was able to successfully divert water away from the house.

Description of Work: I needed to replace large wooden sliding doors in my office with mirrored doors. I contacted Roberts Home Repair to pick up the doors I had purchased from the home improvement store, and then replace my existing wood doors with the mirrored doors.
