Mountain Air Comfort Systems is excellent. I really felt like they knew what they were talking about and I could trust them. They were a little expensive but I also thought that they were being honest and they were doing an appropriate job. I think it was worth it and we got what we paid for.
Description of Work: They came out twice. They first replaced the vents and put in new thermostat. They came out again and re-routed some of the air tunnels that goes to the air ducts because we have two series and the way that the tape run when they built the house hasn't really sealed it up properly so he came out and re-evaluated our system and then re-figured it so that it was more effective.

Our furnace stopped blowing heat and I wasn't sure what the issue could have been . I'm a DYI kind of guy but since I don't know much about furnaces (and working around natural gas scares me!) I decided to suck it up and pay to have someone check it out. Turns out, the glow igniter was bad and needed replacement. I called Mountain Air Comfort and they had someone out to my house within a couple of hours. The repairman (Tyler) was very nice and professional. The repair work was very quick. After watching how simple the work was, I now know how to replace my own igniter next time. Total cost $215. Cost of part, approx. $20-25.
Description of Work: Replace faulty furnace igniter.

Owner came out and reviewed our situation and made a recommendation as to what type of system to install. Appreciated that he looked at different solutions to provide us the most cost efficient one. Workers showed up on time everyday and worked hard througout the day and the project was completed in the projected timeline. Two of the workers on the project were very good, cleaned up after themselves thoroughly, did good work and did not do any damage in my home...however, the third worker did not clean up well at all, damaged my hardwood floors, and made errors in the installation that WE caught. When this was brought to the attention of the owner, he denied that his workers could have caused any of the damage to the hardwood floors, so my warning/complaint would be that if you hire this company, be sure to take pictures of the areas where they will be (and make sure the picture has a date stamp on it) so that you can prove that this company's workers caused the damage, otherwise, the owners of this company will not only deny that they did it but will actually argue with you about it and they will do nothing about it.
Description of Work: Had a traditional air conditioning system installed, but needed to have all the ductwork put in as we don't have any in our home.

Mountain Air was one of five companies I considered for the air sealing and insulation work I wanted to get done. When I set up the appointment for the estimate, the scheduler said the estimator would arrive between 8 and 9. This was the only company to give me a window instead of a time; and I asked if we could schedule it for a specific time instead of a window, especially since it would be the first appointment of the day; no. I blocked out 2+ hours, from 8 - 10:15. Dan arrived at 9:10 or 9:15; by which time I had already called the company to confirm if he was still coming or not. This left us with an hour to go over the work I wanted to get done. Even though I sent my energy audit to all five companies before each estimate, Dan was the only one of five who had printed it off and read it. We talked over the work I wanted to get done and headed to the basement. Dan spent most of the hour trying to convince me to get a couple of other improvements done that were not mentioned on my energy audit. One was to reconfigure how the crawlspace under my basement was vented; and the second was to re-do much of the ductwork around my current furnace. Now I'm not an expert, but I found myself pretty skeptical that these items were necessary or would have near the payback (money and comfort) that the air sealing and insulation would have. I plan to ask my HVAC company their opinion on the second item the next time I get my furnace checked. His focus on these other projects left very little time to discuss the work that I actually wanted done. We ran out of time and did not have time for him to enter the attic; he estimated the attic area by measuring the floor below. The bid for the work I was actually quoting was $2858; the second highest of five and almost 60% higher than the company who did the work (Mountain Air's bid did not include the work to air seal and insulate a smaller attic section that was later identified as a major source of air infiltration; in the comparison I considered equal scope for both companies). The bid included an additional $1180 if I chose to do the other items (crawl space ventilation and duct re-work) plus an optional $2700 for a HEPA filter on the air intake lines (wow... I have the windows open much of the summer including during the bid so this suggestion really surprised me). I indicated I would not use this company again because I didn't feel he was focused on the work that I as a customer wanted to have done; I didn't feel they respected my time; his expertise is in HVAC and I already have an HVAC contractor who I'm quite happy with; and I detected a somewhat cavalier attitude about safety in response to questions I asked all five potential contractors about the materials they were using and what precautions they and I needed to take while the work was done. If anything I feel my grade is generous.

Description of Work: they came out to evaluate large temperature difference between up & down stairs. recommended insulation improvements and improvements to efficiency of ductwork. took a lot of time explaining everything, and actually had very good and very reasonable suggestions. they did the insulation work last week and the up & down stairs are only 2 degrees apart now! we will have them come back and do the ductwork at a later date. he was The Only person who took the time to examine everything before suggesting fixes, and was always available for answering questions. very problem-solving oriented, not take-all-the-money-i-can oriented.

It went great. Wonderful company. Friendly, informative and professional. They also cleaned up after themselves. It was just a whole lot of money. I thought it was $2,000 more than I wanted to spend.

Arrived on time. Very professional. Explained the work to be performed that day. Viewed the work site to understand all the parameters. Explained using automatic control versus manual control on the humidifier. Explained how all the pieces would tie together. Installed the humidifier. Explained all the controls. Replaced the 'megaphone' air intake and insulated the two intake registers on the 1st and 2nd floors. Laid down drop clothes in all traffic and work areas. Cleaned up and took all debris. Very satisfied with the results. The furnace/air handling systems are now silent and the humidity level in the house is much more livable. Rafal did a great job.
Description of Work: Had Mountain Air come out to: install an Aprilaire humidifier replace a large metal air intake duct with insulated flexible ducting to reduce noise

I could not have been happier with my overall experience with Mountain Air. I bought my home in the summer of 2009. It is an old (built in 1919) bungalow that did not have sufficient insulation, and it had a 25+ year old furnace that we knew was on its way out at the time of inspection. I received quotes from 9 or 10 different contractors for both the furnace replacement and insulation (about 6 for the furnace and 3 or 4 for insulation). Don from Mountain Air was the ONLY one of the furnace contractors that ran a proper load calculation. Mountain Air was also the only contractor that had proper knowledge of the entire whole house comfort design and that presented an entire home performance plan. Mountain Air was certainly not the cheapest, but the level of quality reflected the price. They were probably the 2nd most expensive of 5 furnace replacement quotes, and middle of the pack in insulation. However, they were also the most knowledgeable of current rebates from the government and Xcel that helped to reduce our final cost. While considering the various quotes I received, there was a cold snap and I turned on the old furnace. The next morning as I was getting ready for work, our Carbon Monoxide detector went off. Faced with that, I knew immediately that I should go with the highest quality contractor. After turning off the furnace and airing out the house, I called Don at Mountain Air around 7:30 AM. He said that all of their techs were out on existing jobs, but that based on the CO hazard he would make sure somebody could get to my furnace right away. Sure enough, he called back within 5 minutes, and the 2 owners were dropping everything and heading out my way. They showed up at my house with the new furnace in less than 2 hours of me making the call! And that included the drive time from Castle Rock to my house in the Denver area! They had the new furnace in place and working by the same evening. The next day they just did some finishing work and cleanup everything was done. I could not believe the fantastic level of service and professionalism I received from Mountain Air. I had the insulation put in about 3 weeks after the furnace, and again the two gentlemen from Mountain Air were highly professional and competent, and they did a wonderful job of cleaning up. In all cases, the final bill was spot on with the original estimate. My house has been much better this winter after having the work done by Mountain Air. Our utility bills have been much lower than what the previous owner experienced, and the comfort level increased greatly even from just the previous Fall. I would highly recommend Mountain Air to anyone, and I already plan on using them for future projects.
Description of Work: Installed new high-efficiency furnace with new PVC exhaust and condensate pump, added combustion air intakes, ran chimney liner for existing water heater, installed new blown-in cellulose in attic and air sealed attic, drilled and filled cathedral ceilings with fiberglass insulation.
