I began renovating my house 3 years ago. It's a 1923 Colonial. Though I do many of the projects myself, I do hire out jobs that are either too time consuming or beyond my carpentry skills. I have nothing but praise for this company. I have been amazed at the some of the companies I have contacted for estimates or work. I have experienced no shows, carpenters who obviously had no idea what they were doing and half-done jobs. NOT THE CASE WITH DIXON. From start to finish, they did a great job. It was a pleasure to meet David Dixon who gave me a thorough and complete estimate. The carpenters were very punctual, and if something came up Reagan called and explained that to me and a later arrival time was scheduled. The work itself was top rate. Though I did the finish on my staircase and drywall, Dixon got the work completely ready so all I had to do was sand and stain or paint. I would work with them again and have recommended them to many friends.

The office forgot to notify a tradesman after the first call. A second call was needed to get action. When the tradesman finally arrived he was unprepared for any of the work being without most relevant tools. Instead of finessing the door and approaching the work as a craftsman, the tradesman took a "meat ax" approach, used our tools and table saw (with my wife's help) and sawed off the entire edge of the door leaving a large gap and misaligned latch, which we then had to fix and make work. This was a chop-shop approach and is unacceptable for future work consideration.

They went above and beyond what I asked them to do offering ides suggestions to improve my own ideas. They were creative and their price was fair. Everyone I dealt with was professional and friendly. I would highly recommend them.

Did not hire the company. Spoke to my father-in-law who is a carpenter out of state after getting the quote. He used some expletives when I told him that they charged $380. He told me the job would take 2-3 hours max. and the materials should not cost more than $80-100, resulting in an hourly labor charge of over $100. Had the work done for over $200 less than what they asked for. Positives were the responsiveness and the professionalism. Unfortunately they are way too expensive, even for a company as compared to an individual contractors.

When he first came to assess the problem, David took care to explain carefully and clearly what he recommended and why. As it turned out this was a rather more labor intensive job than originally expected. Apparently there are 2 roofs on the house and the second had been laid down by an obsessive/compulsive type who not only glued it down, but also put in twice the usual number of nails. It took about twice as long as expected to remove the old skylights and insert the new ones and there still remained the trim work and the inside repair. The workman did not complain, although he did comment!! He worked until late in the evening to complete the job and then cleaned up and swept! Despite the extra work and time involved the quoted price did not change. David and his employees did the work with their usual thoroughness. I was very pleased.

He was early, that was great. He cleaned up after himself & was very careful with air possession. Greets you by name & shakes your hand. Crystal in the office is very helpful & good with estimates.

The work was done on two separate dates; 8-23-06 and 10-6-06. The new windows look great and fit perfectly. The owner, Dave Dixon, is very knowledgeable and professional. His employees were also very professional and knew what they were doing. If there were any problems Dave knew how to fix it and get it done correctly. He's the type of person that will make sure your project is done with first rate quality that we all hope to get when we hire someone to do a job. While I don't think the windows were cheap by any means, Dixon's price was competitive with others that I received estimates from.

The shower stall was a special order with a side drain so it would line up with the tub drain. They forgot to order it, and did not catch the mistake until after they had removed the tub. They had to cut into my concrete floor to correct their error. This took about a day longer than they had anticipated. Some of the sealer was wiped on the wall above the shower, and my paint would not cover it. I will need to repaint that area after I sand off the sealer. It is also going to be necessary to add a quarter round above the shower unit to hide the sealer that seeped out, and can't be hidden by paint. Because my water shut-off is located in the ground outside, they had to remove a ground lid to get to it. It was left open, which could have presented a danger if someone had not mentioned it to me. Despite this, I am pleased with the shower. The men were polite. They went over and above trying to get the job done correctly for me despite frustrating circumstances beyond their control.

When I spoke with them, I told them I had a large picture to be hung on a living room wall, some weather-stripping type molding around the outside of some sliding glass doors in my kitchen that had come loose and was of concern to me, and a small place on the low end of a gable right above my front porch that is bare wood (about 4" x 6") and only needs to have some paint dabbed onto it to protect it from the winter elements until spring when I can get all the trim painted. The woman said, "We don't do that". So I told her that's a primary factor in what I needed done and to just forget it!!! She said okay, and that was the end of that!!!!

We were very happy with the promptness and professionalism of the company. They gave us a very detailed description of what could be done for our particular project. We fully intend to use this company in the very near future to complete the work. They also provided us with a free estimate of repair to give to a different roofing company that had damaged our siding during their job saving us from having to hire yet another company to provide that written estimate.

Dixon Custom Home Solutions is extremely prompt, fair in their pricing, efficient, and personable. I called several other companies (from Angie's List) and the responses weren't near the quality that Dixon displayed. David (the owner) did a great job diagnosing issues and Reagan was prompt in getting back to me. Rodney did a great job on the repairs and was very friendly. I will definitely use them again and refer them to others!!

THE WORKMAN WAS ABOUT 15 MINUTES EARLY. HE WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL, PUT DOWN DROP CLOTHS. CLEANED UP WELL AFTER JOB WAS COMPLETED, AND DID A GOOD JOB.

Extremely prompt, polite, professional and competent.

I've used him for a number of different projects. I would definitely recommend him!

THE SECOND TIME, THEY AGREED TO SEND SOMEONE OUT THE NEXT DAY, TO COMPLETE THE CHANGE AT NO CHARGE.

Dave arrived promptly at the specified time, was very friendly and courteous and did not waste any time in getting the many tasks completed. We got estimates on some future work we want to do, and will try to see if Dave can return to do the work. Prices were very fair.

Installer was right on schedule and performed all work in a satisfactory manner.

He did an excellent job. He was on time and completed the work when promised. His price was reasonable.

I would say that my experience with this business was very positive. Dave was friendly, courteous and professional. His wife answers the phone and makes appointments and she is also a pleasure to deal with. Although we had a very difficult site in which to put the new dishwasher, Dave stayed with it until it fit. We had a slight "glitch" with the water flow, but another workman, Mike, came out later to fix it at no additional charge. He was equally helpful and friendly. I plan to call them for future projects.

I spoke with his wife, who was totally obnoxious. She was totally unprofessional, and they were not willing to offer me any clarification for the estimate on a very large job. I have since then cancelled any work to be done by them for this project. I have tried to reach him subsequently 3 times in regards to the estimate and was told each time I would be reached and never was. Totally unprofessional.

The workmen were very nice and professional. Did a good job and cleaned up afterward.

I had a slight scheduling issue with Dixon's. We had the date all set, and I was told the gentleman would arrive between 8 and 8:30 am. Well, he arrived at 7:30 am, and I was in the shower. I came downstairs just after 8 am, and there was a note in the door as well as a message on my answering machine telling me to reschedule. I was later told that the gentleman waited until around 8 after 8, but I do not think this was the case. I spent most of the day playing phone tag trying to reschedule, which included an $85 trip charge. Not fun! But once I did reschedule and Mike came out, everything was great. He and his helper Andrew completed all the work in fine fashion. Mike listened to what I wanted and was attentive to my needs. He was polite and professional. I was in good hands for sure! I was glad I persevered and that they were able to reschedule so soon (6 days later). The drywall in particular looks great, really impressive. I wish I had a "before" picture!
