Outstanding work and extremely professional. David provided a timely quote and listened to us on what we needed accomplished with the completion of our stair replacement, replace the tile with hardwood floor, and install new railings. We will consider this company for future home projects with no hesitation.

We had such a great experience, from appointment set-up to work completion. A plumber cut a door-sized hole in our basement to access the pipes, which were covered by drywall. The recommended "fixes" ranged from custom cabinetry to just drywalling over the hole. David's solution was the most practical, cost effective, and visually appealing. He repaired the drywall and installed an access panel (which we painted over) so that we were in compliance with code. The team was on time, very professional and left everything as they found it. I also added on a few misc things for them to do while they were here, and they quickly knocked them out. We obviously had a small job, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them for a large job.

Very well. We called them initially to fix sagging doors on kitchen cabinets and then asked them for an estimate on kitchen counter replacement and bathroom counter replacement. David and his son Cory found that the cabinet hinges were too worn and damaged to permanently repair (no surprise to us) and suggested they could put in all new ones. We agreed. (I was tired of having a door fall off just before company arrived.) To get full estimate for counters we went out to counter place and worked with their contact there who was extremely helpful. We decided to go ahead with kitchen counters and also replace one bathroom counter. They said installation would take two or three days and told us when they would do the work ((several weeks out). They called the Friday before the scheduled day to say they would arrive around 9:00 am on Monday and David and Cory were able to complete the job in two days. They cleaned up very well, even cleaned the mirror. Both were highly skilled workmen, hard workers, and nice people. We are very pleased with their work, would hire them again, and recommend them to friends.

Horrible. 1) David and Cory replaced the window sills both inside and out with wood that we never approved of. The outside sill has the smooth side facing down, and the caulking was put on during the rain. We were told we would have to replace it because the water ran off the seal that was caulked. The inside window sills are not finished with the edges not painted or sanded. 2) While it was raining, both men walked in and out of our house onto our new carpet with their shoes on; tracking in mud, water, and debris. 3) Every location they worked on was left in a mess. There was trash from their lunch, sawdust in the vents and carpet, our couch covered in sawdust, and we are still finding debris (wood chips, insulation, paint...) in the front lawn. This mess took us over an hour to clean ourselves. 4) While they were installing the front exterior door, the front was scratched, so they had to run to the store to buy us a new one due to their mistake. However, either the new door they bought came with a knick or they damaged the door during the installation. 5) While they were working on our door, a window salesman came in to give his free estimate. After the window salesman left, both handymen gave their own window sales pitch and recommendation for an hour. We did ask for a quotation on the windows, but were not informed that we would have to pay for it plus any additional unwarranted advice. A basic quote would have been fine, not hearing all about the awards their family owned business has received. We were still charged $80/hour per person for this time spent talking with us. 6) In addition, their lunch break and home depot run (for the door they damaged and other materials) took 2 hours, but according to their time check-in the lunch break was only 30 and the home depot run was 1 hour. Also according to their records, they did not clock out at the end of the day until 20 min after they had left our home. We know this because we called at 6:36 PM to complain about the knick in the door, and the secretary asked us why we did not tell David and Cory ourselves since they were still in our house according to their time sheet. 7) After all these complaints, we conversed 4 times and received no compensation, no recommendations, and no help to correct their mistakes. David's wife told us that they would come back to re-caulk the windows - they never did, so I had to buy the caulk to do it myself with rain in the forecast. She also said they would have only been willing to give us 45 dollars back for "being a pain in our a**", when we would have appreciated some compensation for the additional time at HomeDepot buying the door they had to replace AND the hour spent discussing windows with us. We received ZERO dollars back for any of these issues we discussed. Lastly, I asked both via text and over the phone for a receipt of the 260 dollars spent on materials for our project - never received any evidence of the items they purchased. They may have charged us for the door they damaged the first time, and we would have no evidence against that. In conclusion, I understand Dixon Custom Home Solutions has received multiple Super Service Awards and great reviews, but from our interactions with every employee, we have seen extremely poor customer service and no element of negotiation skills. In fact, less than 24 hours after the work was completed and before we felt like the sales were final, our check was cashed. When speaking of these frustrations, another comment by David's wife/co-owner was that she believes him to be honest since he has never cheated on her. That was not what we were ever alluding to, we simply wanted the job to match fairly with the compensation.
Description of Work: We needed two exterior doors (front door and door to the garage) to be put in, as well as two indoor window sills to be replaced that were old/originally had the previous carpeting on them that we removed. Additionally an outdoor window sill and board underneath the outside of the front door was replaced.

Response from Dixon's Custom Home Solutions
We take customer complaints very seriously. This customer was quoted the hourly rate before the job started and free to question or stop service at any time. After work was completed he told the owner everything looked "fantastic". He wrote a check and did not tell the owner of any problems. Our GPS shows our truck leaving his home at 6:37. Our call log shows him calling to complain at 6:35. There was still an owner onsite, yet he did not voice any concern to him. He called the office and said he would only be happy if he was "discounted" $400 as he expected the cost to be around $1,000. His first complaint, while mentioned here, was never brought up to any staff member at any time during our multiple encounters. He states the exterior wood has the rough cedar side facing up. This rough side up is common practice in the residential industry and also is exactly how the cedar is on the rest of his house. We were further instructed not to paint as he could handle that himself. He states the owner came in with wet shoes on while working. I asked if there was any mud, stains or issues. He stated no. He could have mentioned to the owner working onsite that he did not want shoes worn in his home. It is our policy that we will remove our shoes during an estimate. However, while working we will wear shoes for safety. Had he simply told the owner this could have been mitigated from the beginning. His next complaint is that we left dust and paint outside. As previously stated, we did not paint at all. He complained of dust in the house. While we did all of the cutting outside it is not possible to keep all of the dust outside. We do broom sweep our area when done. We never tried to hide or deny that we damaged a door and we exchanged it. The new scratch he mentions was not seen by the owner or homeowner at that time. While the wife states they discussed windows for 30 minutes husband is claiming an hour. Owner states it might have been a 30 minute discussion regarding various brands of windows, while he was installing the lock on the door. Even though homeowner states in this complaint that the conversation was "while working on the door" he has requested $400 to offset the cost of the entire conversation. However, work was completed during the conversation. This was an informative conversation, not a bid or sales pitch, while work other was being completed. According to GPS the trip to the store to pick up all necessary supplies was 62 minutes and lunch was 31 minutes. The homeowner was not billed for lunch time. Homeowners are given the option of going and getting materials themselves or we can go get them. Our billing time starts when we arrive and stops when the project is completed. Lunch was consumed at a restaurant and all trash left there. Owner did have a cup of water that was inadvertently left onsite. This is the lunch trash they are upset about. I apologized for our inadvertently leaving a water cup in their home. The complaint that the check was cashed the next business day seems irrational. We make a bank run every day. We were not asked to, nor is it our policy to hold a check. When he wrote the check, and told the owner everything was wonderful, we assumed the sale was final. Lastly, this homeowner claims I said my husband, the owner, doesn't cheat on me so he must be honest. When the homeowner said he wanted a copy of the receipt, which has been mailed, he said he thought we cheated him and made him buy the door again. Keeping in mind we bought multiple other items to achieve his tasks. What I actually said was "In 15 years I have never had anyone accuse David of cheating them."

David did a high-quality job, repairing the seams with drywall tape and then ensuring the connection was filled in and then textured. The only trouble we had was trying to get the work scheduled, as this company has a lot of business and has a hard time keeping track of prospective customers.
Description of Work: When we had our floors replaced and the baseboards removed, seven of the corner drywall beads popped and needed to be repaired. The job was to repair the beads permanently rather than just calking over the break.

David did and excellent job on a project that was started by another contractor but not completed. David's attention to details is impeccable and it shows in his work. Timely, professional and polite are all attributes that describes David. When the job was completed the area was cleaned up just the way he found it when he started. Also to mention, Reagan is such a pleasure to deal with when discussing billing and scheduling. This is my second project with David and I am certain there will be a third in the future.

Great, extremely happy! David remodeled our bathroom in January, he and his co worker arrived every day and finished the job on time. David and Cory do the work themselves so no sub contractors in and out of your home. We chose all of our tile, etc. We went over our ideas and helped guide us which resulted in an great space! He removed the carpet, the tub, step up for tub and shower, the "planter", old tile, vanity, 2 way fireplace, etc. We chose to have a closet put in the space where the fireplace was and didn't put a tub in as it was rarely used. Added a pocket door, larger shower, dual shower heads, new vanity, reclaimed wood over vanity, floor heating, and new lights.

David did an excellent job with everything that we asked of him. He is prompt, courteous, very neat and clean, effective in his work and has great integrity. He spent time carefully assessing our electrical system and found that my requested repairs were not at all necessary, saving us time and money. He found that several items needed to be acquired to complete the repairs and he obtained these and returned at another scheduled visit to finish the work. We are delighted with his work and can recommend him most highly. We have additional remodeling work to do in the near future and David is the only contractor we would consider having perform the upgrades. Lastly, his wife manages his office and communicates well and at the appropriate times, which we deeply appreciate. Together the Dixons offer excellent service from start to finish.
Description of Work: David Dixon performed a number of important tasks for us, including trouble-shooting our electrical system, installing outdoor lighting, repairing plumbing leaks and repairing our Trex deck. Most importantly, he educated us in some of the aspects of the systems in our new home and shared much knowledge about maintenance of our home.

Dixon's was really booked but they managed to fit us into an afternoon spot. Even though they arrived a little late, they kept me apprised of the situation as their earlier job had run long. When David arrived they discovered that the metal access panel could not fit into the ceiling without some trimming in order to deal with the metal I-beam and wood framing in the location - he was able to do this onsite quickly and with minimum extra time. The finished panel looks great, fits perfectly. Honored the 10% Angie's List coupon on labor.
Description of Work: We needed an access panel put into the ceiling of our finished basement so that a water softener could be hooked up to the main cold water line before it T's off to the hot water line...the basement finishing was done before we bought the house and did not take this into consideration.

The work itself was good however, he had taken a faucet off and needed to get a part replacement. This all started in May....it's now August. I sent an email (which was the only correspondence I had of which he was on as well since May). Once he was paid, never saw him again and requested on June 14th, June 16th, June 18th (finally responded and said he had the parts and asked from best number to reach me). I responded on June 20th and then never heard back. Emailed again July 2nd, then went back to email and noticed a number to text. If he had the parts like he said, then why not finish the job??? While I think he was great to work with and professional, they need to FIRE or RETIRE the person scheduling. What a joke! There are 10 "F" reviews for a reason! I have never, ever had a business speak in a manner that I was texted back to: Here, verbatim is the text exchange: Me: When are you coming back to finish the work? We have been incredibly patient Them: our earliest opening start the last week of Sept. Me: That's not acceptable. We paid and the work is not finished Them: The work you paid for has been completed. You did not pay in advance for any future services Me:I have not had a faucet in one of my rooms since May. Sent an email June 14th, June 16th and June 18th Them: Again.. You did not pay for any future services. You paid for work completed that day. Call someone else. Me: Gave you my phone number June 20th. I need my faucet back. Then left another message July 2nd. I am happy to find someone else but deliver my faucet back today. Or I will have to contest the charge Them: It is a check that has been cashed. We performed the service. I am asking Dave if he has your faucet. I will not be driving anything to you today. Me: I will be sure to leave a review. This is unbelievable. I expect my faucet back tomorrow. Regan should have my faucet as I believe he did the services Them: The faucet is under your counter! I am Regan. The office manager. I have never been there. It is under your sink. It never left the building. Me: At a minimum it needs to be put back on. He took it off. Such poor customer service Them: That was not work that was paid for. That faucet was not serviceable. Write your review. Have a nice day. Try calling the office to schedule an appointment with a provider. It's much more effective. Me: I didn't ask him to take it off. Shame on you and your shady business Them: You never called to schedule an appointment. Shame on you & your lack of effective communication. Me: You should look at your string of emails. That was how the original communication started. Such poor business acumen. Seriously!!!! Regan should NEVER have any interaction with ANY customer!! All of my correspondence was via email and responded to via email. The only reason I texted was because it was on one of the emails and if they are going to put it on an email response, they should expect a text message. Welcome to the world of modern technology and communication. IF they expected a 'call' they should not have ever responded to email or text messages. One of the worst customer interactions I've ever had with a business. I would stay away. There is way too much completion out there to deal with people like this and so happy to take my business elsewhere. Too bad for David as he was a nice guy and pleasure to work with on the project.

Response from Dixon's Custom Home Solutions
This customer hired us to attempt to repair work that was not done well by a previous contractor. We showed her the counter top where it was damaged. Our office was not called to schedule a return appointment, as it was the 1st time. This person began sending rude, demanding & harassing text messages. At which point, we refused to return to provide future services. We were accused of taking her faucet, we did not. We were accused of having been paid & not completing work. We were only paid for work previously completed. She threatened to cancel payment as a form of demanding we return that same day, we could not. As she stated, We have had10 F's since 2001. I think the other 346 A responses speak volumes about our office staff & services. There will always be some people we can not please. We do strive for customer happiness. However, when people are threatening & rude we are not willing to provide future services.

We have an electric hoist in the attic of our garage with a platform that lowers to the garage floor. David replaced the cable and strung it properly so it wouldn't fray, and calculated the proper length of the cables so the platform was finally level. He also added more bolts to secure the heavy motor. David did a great job communicating: he showed up when scheduled, explained his plan to make the repair, and followed up by demonstrating the properly working hoist and reviewing the details of the completed repair. Excellent professional to work with!
Description of Work: Replace cable and secure motor on electric hoist.
