The contractor did a nice job on the septic system, and I would recommend him for that service. I was not given a firm estimate on the excavation. Instead, I was was given an estimate that the job would take 3 days, at $1500 per day. After paying for 5-1/2 days, the job still wasn't near complete. The contractor assumed no ownership for underestimating the job, and did not offer any cut rate or other discounts for additional days that might be required. I finally quit using them. Other experts, who did a much better job, told me that they dug too deep, which created more dirt piles, and more later work needed. I should point out, that subsequently, I have spent a lot more on excavation for this project.
