Rick showed up within 15 minutes of my call on a Friday morning. Not knowing what was going on (my husband works out of town) I really relied on Rick to guide me with the problem and the solution. Unfortunately, all of my plumbing was plumbed wrong and needed replaced along with a new water heater (that was dangerously connected with water running in the electrical part of the heater). Rick was booked up all day Friday and asked if I could wait until Monday. I told him I would rather not go the weekend without water and he immediately said "OK tomorrow it is", called the office and scheduled for 9:00am. He showed up on time, prepared and as other reviewers said loved my dogs! My plumbing looks beautiful now and I have found myself a plumber. Thanks Rick!!!

McAdams tried to do $400 of unnecessary work when all that was required was 5 minutes to replace a $9 part. The Vacuum Breaker Assembly was leaking from the top of my outdoor yard faucet. I paid $40 to have a plumber from McAdams Plumbing come out and look at the problem. I turned on the faucet and showed him the water coming out of the anti-siphon valve on top of the faucet. He told me that the faucet had previously frozen and we needed to replace it. He said we needed to rip out the dry wall from our finished basement to gain access and that the plumbing job would cost $400 and we would need to hire someone else to replace the drywall. After my next door neighbor told me he thought it looked like an easy fix I did a quick google search on how to fix a leaking anti-siphon faucet and found out that it's a 5 minute fix with a $9 part from Ace Hardware. It turns out that this is a common problem that any plumber would be familiar with. I bought the part and did the job myself in 5 minutes and everything works fine now. I just had to unscrew a lid with my hand and take out the old plastic part and drop in the new one. It's a common problem and the part is designed to be easily replaced. Anyone could do it. I'm not pleased that McAdams charged me $40 just to come out and didn't tell me what the real problem was. I think the plumber should have taken care of this easy quick fix right then. Instead he told me to pay $400 more to have them make a much more expensive repair that was not needed. It seems they either lied to me or are horribly incompetent. If my neighbor didn't clue me in, I probably would have ended up making the expensive repair and never have know I'd been ripped off.

Two bathroom sinks and kitchen sink quit draining late on a Sat. morning. At about 3 pm, after trying to fix it myself, I checked Angies List and called McAdams Plumbing. Chris said he could have someone here in about 90 minutes and explained what the charges would be including $85 extra for a weekend job. He called me back with an ETA and Chris (a different one) showed up right on time at 415. He assessed the problem and told me where he thought the problem was. He snaked out the drain line and made sure everything was working. He got the kitchen floor a little dirty and I thought about giving him a "B" but it was a late call on a Saturday and he is a plumber cleaning out a drain line, not a housekeeper, so I gave them all As. Good work

McAdams customer service was great at first. They told me that the price would be up front and rates were and quot;standard.and quot; So I asked them to come by and do a couple of jobs for me. The first job was to install a new faucet piece in my bathroom. The job took around one hour and I they charged me $385.00. I thought the price was a little high but I went ahead and got it fixed. The second job was to fix a garbage disposal at my rental property which included a $45 trip charge. When he got there he found out there was a loose wire. It took him 2 minutes to fix it. He initially told me the $45 trip charge was good enough. Later a customer service agent called me back and said they had to charge me another $85 for a minimum job charge. I was very unhappy about this. Not only that I was charge the additional $85, but they also tacked on the $45 for a total of $130 for 2 minutes worth of work. Most companies deduct the trip charge if you proceed with the work. This companies adds to it. Overall, I was satisfied with the work. However, I will not calling them do do any more work for me. Prices are very expensive and they charge additional for trip charges. I felt more like a cash cow than a customer.
Description of Work: I called McAdams for plumbing services for my home and a rental property. I had a a faucet that would not dispense hot water. The garbage disposal at my rental property was not turning on.

They were very professional in scheduling a visit for the very next day after I called, and were willing to make a specific appointment time rather than offering a large window of time. Because the rental house was located in Broomfield where they are based, there was no trip charge. They discovered that the problem was as simple as debris that had collected in the aerator. They cleaned it and were on their way, no charge, and followed up with me by phone to let me know the results. I would definitely use them again.

I called McAdams to replace several leaky valves and they were able to send someone out the same day (great!). The plumber arrived reaking of cigarette smoke which I find off putting as a non-smoker. Showed him the valves that needed replacing - two of the valves were easily accessible in an unfinished portion of the basement, the third was slightly harder to get to, but a relatively simple fix since it had an access panel. I had tried to help out by earlier shutting off the main water supply and opening the faucets to drain the pipes prior to him arriving (to help speed the work). In all, its an hours worth of plumbing work and I estimated the parts to cost around $40 retail (That is what I would pay from home depot - since I checked before calling). The plumbing work was all in standard copper piping in the house, so nothing too difficult to work with.He wrote up the quote and gave it to me to sign (not really explaining the itemized cost) and I noticed he quoted the job at $750! Breaking down to $350 to replace a 3/4and quot; copper shutoff valve, and $315 to replace two exposed 1/2and quot; washer valves (plus the a $35 travel charge). I refused to have the work done and ended up having to begrudgingly pay the $35 trip charge. I ended up getting another company to come in a do the work for $225 (which charged a more sane $100/hr for the plumbing work, and the remainder for parts/travel). So McAdams tried to charge me $525 extra for the work!I can only assume that McAdams tries to take advantage of people in need for plumbing work by charging ridiculous amounts for their work - or possibly they supplement their income by quoting high and taking in a lot of and quot;trip chargesand quot; from homeowners. Either way, I find their style of business distasteful, unprofessional, and would never recommend them to anyone. Unless you like paying exorbitant prices, avoid McAdams plumbing!

Rick - a master plumber, arrived on time. Was very courteous, and loved our little dog Roscoe! He explained what was wrong with the elevation of the toilet and that it would need to be re flanged before resetting the toilet. He replaced an outside spigot that had been damaged last summer. Rick was very efficient and thorough. I would definitely trust him for any repair or information/advice I might need in the future.

We're very sorry you were disappointed sir. This situation was definitely a case of miscommunication and we have to take responsibility for that. What you were quoted over the phone was merely a service charge, which was interpreted as an hourly rate, and not actually costs for the service. We would never, ever, up-sell a customer. This is against everything we believe in and stand for as a company and why we waived the service charge upon leaving your home. We wish you the best of luck in the future and hope you find a company that is a great fit for your expectations. Thank you for your feedback!

On Saturday morning I noticed that my vacuum breaker was dripping even though I had blown out the sprinklers the weekend before. I knew that the shut off valve in the crawl space was failing to close completely. I called Rick and explained my diagnosis. Rick asked if I considered it an emergency, I quickly said no. He said they could come out the following week at my convenience. We couldn't come to a date (purely due to my schedule, they were more than willing to make it work) Rick then stated that they could do it today. He contacted Chris and he was there literally in 15 minutes even though it was not an emergency by any means. They did it solely to help me out at no additional cost for the weekend. When Chris arrived he was professional and friendly. He went about his work without needing any additional direction and was in and out within a hour. He provided me a cost before the work. He used his Ipad and had the rates for the repair on the screen so a person would know exactly what was going to be done. After the work was completed he explained what he had found. After it was over, I realized that I had found a problem, had a plumber out, got everything repaired correctly, and was back to enjoying my weekend with only a quick phone call. It was truly one of the easiest experiences I have had on a home repair. I also have faith that this is exactly the type of experience that Rick and his business wants for their customers. Great experience with a plumber that I completely trust.

I thought the main line needing clearing, and that is what I requested when I called them. But when Rick got there, he helped me see that it wasn't the main line that needed cleaning, but the kitchen/laundry line. He would have charged $185 for the main line, but he said what I needed was the $95 service. So he actually sold me on a less expensive service, because that's what I needed. The quality of the service and the professionalism and care displayed were also great. I am very pleased and will definitely patronize McAdams again.

I had a slow leak that dripped water onto my kitchen ceiling which suddenly turned into a minor flood when the show was running. It turned out to be failing grout between tiles. McAdam's had some good suggestions and tried to find the leak on two different trips to my house, but failed to find or even suggest that as a possibility, which I ended up discovering myself. McAdam's quoted me $35 for the house call over the phone, and Rick from McAdams investigated. At first I was really happy that he gave me suggestions to find the leak that didn't involve cutting any drywall, specifically: 1) A toilet in an upstairs bathroom that had recently been retiled. He said the flange usually starts to leak a few years after retiling if it wasn't raised because the wax seal degrades over time and isn't quite tall enough. He suggested using the blue toilet cakes to see if this was the issue. If the leak turned my kitchen ceiling blue, we've found the culprit. 2) He found a ripped rubber seal on my show door that could also explain it, which was an easy repair I could do myself. Rick had me try those two things and said if neither of them fixed or identified the leak, he would return to cut drywall to find it and not charge me the $35 inspection fee again, so when I started leaking continuously (not just a drip) when the shower was on, we called him back. He flooded the shower pan and determined it wasn't a leak in the pan or drain pipe, but then told us: * The next step would be to cut drywall to see where the leak was coming from. * He couldn't do it that day. (We explained the situation when we called him in and scheduled an appointment for a few days after we called, so I was somewhat frustrated that it would take another trip. They did spend 1.5 hours attempting to find the leak though). * It would cost $165 to find the leak, which didn't include fixing it or repairing the drywall cut. (I don't think this is an unreasonable price, but I felt mislead both by my initial phone conversation with McAdams and by what Rick told me the first time he came out.) Before we could schedule them to return to find and fix the problem, we figured out on our own that it only occurred when the shower was spraying on the corner of the tiled shower wall. Our tile guy came out and pointed out where the bottom two rows of tile had been replaced previously, noting a slightly different color, and suggested replacing them again. He also noted the mold in the grout line, which kept coming back no matter how much I cleaned it or what cleaning products I used, was a sure sign the grout is no longer water tight. I ended up re-grouting the bottom two rows of tile and resealing all of the grout myself which seems to have fixed the leak for two weeks now. The McAdam's guys were friendly and had some good non-invasive ideas to try to find the leak. However, they should have let me know about both the $35 visit fee and the $165 fee for the more detailed inspection up front. More importantly, I'm disappointed they couldn't find the leak the way I did by spraying the shower wall. Now that I've seen the symptoms (cracked grout, mold that keeps coming back), it seems like it should be an easy to spot problem for an experienced plumber. In their defense: * They didn't charge me a 2nd visit fee (just the $35 for the first visit) * I cleaned the mold at least weekly because it kept coming back so quickly, so it may have been mostly scrubbed away when they were there and harder to notice. (but definitely visible if you were looking for it.) I will probably call McAdam's again, but I'm not necessarily set on them as my go-to plumber. Note: I've amended this review after their 2nd visit. The response they provided below was to my original review. McAdams contacted me by mail to let me know that Angie's List doesn't let them amend their response even though I've amended my review, so I'm adding the comments they sent me on their behalf. They said: * They try to always let customers know about all fees up front and apologize for the misunderstanding. * They did spend 1.5 hours trying to find my leak and it's not always possible even for an experience plumber to do so without cutting drywall. I am impressed that they seem to take customer satisfaction very seriously. Hopefully this review is more informative than the typical "best/worst company ever" Angie's List review and readers will give them a try simply because they knowing what they're getting.

I received great, friendly, punctual, high quality, professional service from McAdams Plumbing. Rick came out and gave me an estimate. The issue I had was an improperly installed toilet (from the previous occupants), had been leaking around the drain pipe for quite some time. Once I removed the old toilet I discovered a damaged closet flange, which was also set too low. After I decided to go ahead and schedule the work, Rick came by in the morning, repaired the damaged closet flange (it was a copper flange on copper drain pipe), brought it up to the correct height, and installed the new toilet (which I had purchased myself). He also provided a one year guarantee on the work, and charged exactly the same as the estimate. Thumbs up!

I Called Mc Adam's to set up a visit to inspect my sump pump as there was some water standing in the hole, according to a home inspection. I was getting ready to sell my house and didn't have much time. Not only did Mr McAdams do the inspection, he went out, purchased a new pump and installed it that very day. Although it seemed a bit pricey, I did not really have the time to shop around and I was pleased to have it all taken care of prior to the sale of my home.

Description of Work: Replaced a dead garbage disposal - after explaining that the one I bought would have required rerouting my pipes. Fixed leaking toilet fixture - after explaining that the new dual flush internal workings I bought was not working correctly and they had seen a lot of problems with the model.

If you want excellent service call McAdams Plumbing. My mother's master bedroom toilet overflowed on a Saturday evening and she had quite a mess. She told me the next morning during our phone call. I went to Angie's List and tried two of the listed 24 hour service companies to no avail. Since I wasn't going to get service for her on Sunday, I decided to call McAdams Plumbing early Monday morning. I called a little after 7:00 a..m. and found they were already on a job, but was told that they would arrive at her house between 9:00-10:00 a.m.. I arrived at her house at 9:00 a.m.. Rick and Chris arrived a little before 10:00 a.m. and had her toilet in working order 45 minutes later. The two of them couldn't have been nicer or more professional. Their prices were reasonable and they gave Mom a senior discount. Chris even took a bit of time with Mom to admire wall photos she wanted to show him that my father had taken. Her dog Toby even enjoyed his time around them. Mom wishes to offer her thanks to them as well in this review.
Description of Work: The service performed was the replacement of the tank kit. The ball float had completely broken off.
