Salesman gave us an honest opinion that our situation wasn't really suitable for a whole house duct system because of the location of the forced air furnace. He then offered a mini-split system, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, by Mitsubishi. Don't be rushed. Salesman offered "maybe" a $1,000 savings (off of $11,000) if we scheduled installation that day, with installation promised in 3 weeks. Do ask other vendors for bids, including locals who aren't listed in Angie's List but who are recommended by friends. We saved $3,000 on identical system and got next day installation from Mesa Plumbing in Boulder, highly recommended by friends in real estate and simple home-owners.
Description of Work: This is in reference to an estimate for whole house A/C during heat wave in July, 2012..

Mr. Member, I apologize that your experience with Cooper Heating & Cooling was anything less than an experience that you would have graded as an A. Our committment to customer service is what distinguishes us from our competitors and what has sustained us as a leading provider of HVAC services in Colorado for three and a half decades and we strive for only perfect marks. When comparing two quotes it is critical that the terms, conditions, guarantees, warranties, quality of work, and the ability and availibility to service the equipment after the installation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, etc. is all taken under consideration when making the comparison. It would surprise me if any reputable firm would be able to install the same system we quoted for 30% less and provide the same level of service. If there is anything that I can do to demonstrate the difference between Cooper Heating & Cooling and our competitors, please let me know. I am sorry that our salesman was clearly not able to do this at the time of the estimate. Thank you so much for your constructive feedback as it has brought to light some things that we can work on internally to be sure that we are always successful at explaining the Cooper difference to each and every one of our prospective clients. Cooper was third on my list of providers that advertised 24 hour service on Angie?s List. I left messages for the first two and never received a call back. My call to Cooper Heating and Cooling went directly to a real person. Within a short period of time, I'd arranged to have a service person at my house early the next morning (on a Sunday). The service person who showed up quickly diagnosed my issue as a bad capacitor. Within 30 minutes, he had the system fixed. He was courteous, polite and even a pretty funny guy. The premium to have a weekend visit was around $50. It was well worth it to have the AC fixed promptly.
Description of Work: I came home from a camping trip on a Saturday afternoon to a dead AC in 100+ degree weather. I contacted Cooper for "emergency" 24 hour service.

It has never made much sense to us to advertise 24 hour service if you're not willing to deliver on it. So many companies do this despite the fact that it's such an easy thing to be caught on! It's dishonest and unethical. Cooper Heating & Cooling understands that our clients' heating and cooling systems don't care what time of day it is when they decide to break, and, as Murphy's law would have it, they will usually break at the worst possible time. You will always be able to count on Cooper 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, Christmas day or otherwise. Thanks again for your business and for your review!

Cooper heating and cooling came on time and explained their process to me then went to work fast. They showed me some of the things trapped in the ducts from our new house construction and it was surprising. They also explained to me some other things that would help us with our heating and cooling costs and showed me a product to think about for later purchasing. It was a wonderful experience and I would have them back anytime!
Description of Work: They came in and set up a large vacuum in the basement where the furnace is and covered all the vents that were not being cleaned. They started suctioning each vent starting upstairs then working to the downstairs vents. They covered the floors where all the hoses went and covered their shoes so as not to track anything around the house. They then packed up all the stuff quickly and showed me some of the things found in the vents. Since our house was a new build there was some weird things we were glad to have out. He then showed me some tips to help keep heating and cooling costs down then left me with some information on a whole house humidifier I could research and think about installing later.

I called Cooper because my AC unit was flooding my basement. I called them first thing on a Saturday morning and they were able to fit me in that same day, which I really appreciate! The guy was quite a bit later than the large time window they had originally told me but as Cooper seemed to be the only company open on Saturday that could fit me in that didn't really bother me. The service guy quickly figured out that the condensate pump had failed and so water was pouring out the overflow valve in the AC unit. He did not have a proper replacement pump with him at the time so he got the old pump restarted and set up better than it had been and he reconfigured the overflow setup to avoid the flooding problem I had had. He also quickly checked out my AC unit outside and determined that it and the coolant levels were fine. We scheduled him to come back on Wednesday with a replacement pump to do a more permanent solution. I was extremely happy with this part of my experience with Cooper, they were very responsive, they solved the problem, and I thought the $125 fee was fair (this was later deducted from the price of the actual repair and new pump). My experience went downhill after that. Wednesday morning I waited for him to show up and no one ever did come that day. He did call halfway through the morning and said he'd be there in a couple hours but then later I got a call from the office saying the visit had never been officially scheduled and he would not be able to come out that day. They wanted to reschedule it for the following Friday (as in, 9 days later)! I found this completely unacceptable and somehow managed to get a spot that coming Saturday (3 days later). I was still extremely frustrated with this as I had made travel plans based on the unit being fixed on the original Wednesday visit and those had to be changed. I was extremely unhappy with this part of my experience with Cooper and seriously considered getting someone else to do the work but was running out of time and had to hope they would keep that next appointment, which they did. The service guy showed up when he was supposed to Saturday morning and replaced the condensate pump and installed a water cop in the unit. The pricing seemed high to me but to be honest I did not get any competitive bids so I cannot say for sure, and they did deduct the original $125 visit fee from the total cost since I spent over $700 on repairs. 1-2 weeks later I noticed water running on my basement floor (there is no drain and fortunately I had not yet replaced the carpet). Tracing it back, I found it was coming from a hose connection on the new pump. I immediately called Cooper and they had the service guy there in less than 30 minutes. It turned out the connection just needed a hose clamp to keep it tight and since he didn't have a small enough hose clamp with him he went straight to Home Depot and came right back and fixed it. Although I was definitely not pleased that they hadn't just put a hose clamp on there in the first place, I really appreciated the immediate response I got to this problem. I mentioned to the service guy that I was surprised with the speed of the response after my experience earlier and he said that Cooper places a very high importance and priority on warranty visits. Since then everything has been fine. Overall I am not sure what to think of Cooper. At times they were extremely responsive and helpful and the service guy was great to work with, but I really do not appreciate the scheduling problems for that second visit and I found it very unprofessional. Also regarding quality, the service guy did a great job working together a temporary solution on the first visit and in the end now everything seems to work great (as it should), but the fact that the hose/pump connection leaked a week or two after the repair definitely bothers me because if I had put new carpet down already then been out of town when it started leaking I would have had another real problem. I would not go out of my way either to recommend Cooper or to recommend against them, I'm sort of in between.
Description of Work: They came out to the house three times. The condensate pump on my AC unit was flooding my basement so the first visit was to figure out what was wrong and do a temporary fix because I needed a new pump and he didn't have the correct pump with him. The second visit was to replace the pump and install a water cop in the AC unit. The third visit was a "warranty visit" because after about a week a hose connection on the new pump came loose and began leaking water into the basement again.

Got a bid on a new replacement water heater. Also got numbers on adding in safety features including interlock and city water shut-off valve. The price on the water heater itself was competitive, it was slightly lower than the other two bids I got. But the pricing on the safety features already mentioned was extremely high (>$1000). The plumber I ended up going with was only very slightly higher on the water heater price but he only charged me $375 for the interlock/shutoff features I wanted.

Robert checked out my outside unit, finding it charged correctly and working as it should. He explained that the manufacturer's charging instructions do not work in the Denver area's conditions of very low humidity and thin air. Lennox and other manufacturers assume 50% indoor humidity and thicker air. My indoor humidity runs only 30% to 35%, making the manufacturer's charging specifications invalid. In addition it is a high velocity system which needs to be charged a little differently. So I apologize to Cooper Heating and to Coco, their technician for my incorrect criticism on 6/14/12. It should be noted that my A/C system ran a few hours less this July than during last July even though July was hotter this year than last. This no-charge recheck by Cooper shows what an upstanding company they are.
Description of Work: Cooper Heating and Cooling sent their technician, Robert, out to recheck my central air conditioner. This recheck was in response to my critical comment on 6/14/12, in which I questioned the accuracy of the technician's gauges and the need to add so much refrigerant.

I called Cooper because my previous service provider was non-responsive to fixing an AC repair job he started. Cooper was able to fit me in the same day, which is exactly what I needed because the property is a rental and I wanted to get the AC unit fixed for my tenants. Brett was my service technician and he was great - he ended up being a couple of hours late because several emergencies had come up on his schedule, but he still made it out to my house. Brett was very nice, extremely knowledgeable about the issue and product, and gave me solid information and guidance on how to proceed with the repair. The only negative I had is that my original service window was scheduled to be between 5-6pm. When I hadn't heard from anyone by 6 I called the main number and the representative spoke with the dispatcher who said that Brett would be a couple of hours late. I understand running late but would have appreciated getting the call from Cooper directly rather than having to track them down.

I called many places on Sunday July 15 because my air conditioning went out and I had a big party planned at my house for Monday evening. I got through to some companies, but I could tell that most people I was talking to really didn't want to send anybody out or charged enormous overtime and after hours fees for a Sunday service call. Besides that I got the feeling that I was talking to people that were working for answering services and that I was not really dealing directly with the company I was calling. When I called Cooper Heating and Cooling, the person who answered the phone was incredibly professional and helpful and didn't even flinch when I said I needed someone that same day. They said the tech would be over ASAP and sure enough Matt was there within the hour. He was happy to help and diagnosed my problem right away. The capacitor had "blown up", he replaced it and everything is running perfectly. I asked him about how the unit looked overall. He did say that he was impressed with how well the AC had been maintained and how well it was running for how old it was, and made no effort to sell me on things that I did not need and while he agreed with me that it may be time to replace the unit in the near future as it is 20 years old, he did not try and get me to buy one. But I will buy one soon, and when I do it will be from Cooper because of their professionalism, availability, and honesty.

The entire experience was great, from Brandi taking my call and booking the appointment to David coming out to do the work. I found everyone I dealt with at Cooper to be extremely courteous and professional. Definitely not what I'm used to dealing with when I have something worked on at my home. That's why I joined Angie's List in the first place, because of the bad luck that I have had with contractors. Cooper provided exactly what they said they would for the amount of money they said they would charge -- kind of rare in today's world. David was on time, obviously knew exactly what he was doing, he took great care in and around my home, and most importantly took the time to explain to me the service he was providing and also made a few recommendations for how I could save energy! Thanks Cooper, and I'll look forward to having you tune up my furnace this winter!

The guy said his notes were for air conditioning. They are not installing whole house fans because it's too hot in the attic. Don't most people want cooling systems when it's hot? Told me they could come back in September. I think not.

Description of Work: Cooper Heating & Cooling cleaned our furnace ducts, vents and air intakes. They seemed very efficient in their work activity and got the job done in approximately 3 hours. They did a good job cleaning up after their work and put everyting back in place that they had to move in order to get to some of the vents around the house.

I never experienced duct cleaning before and was a bit nervous. Brother team (John & Charley) explained how everything would work. They were very careful of the house and furniture and stayed aware of our small kitty's safety. They replaced several broken vents, helped us with a very badly clogged dryer vent and gave a lot of advice on furnace duct work for our future basement. They were very competent yound men and very nice.
Description of Work: Angie's Deal for Air Duct Cleaning on Unlimited Vents. Cleaned out all the house vents and also cleaned the dryer vent which turned out to be really bad. It was a great deal!

I purchased this buy now deal and scheduled my first appointment for May 18th, with a window of 1 PM-5 PM. On the morning of the 18th, I received a phone call stating that they would not be able to make the appointment. I understand that sometimes things come up, so I rescheduled for May 24th, with the same time window. On the morning of the 24th I received a call saying that they wouldn't be able to make this appointment, either. I expressed some displeasure of having to schedule a 3rd appointment, and the woman I was speaking with told me that the technician would bring a check for $75 to reimburse me for the certificate. Agreeing to this, I made another appointment for June 1st, between 1-5. June 1st arrives, and I'm waiting around the house for the technician to come. 1 PM comes and goes, then 2, then 3. Around 4 PM I received a phone call saying that the technician was running late and would be coming, but may be around 5. At about 5:20 the technician arrived. He did his inspection of the furnace and found that the coil was very dirty, and this would prevent him from completing a thorough inspection of the A/C unit. He did go outside to look at the A/C unit, and told me that the capacitor was leaking oil. He quoted me around $550 to clean the coil, and replace the capacitor. I declined to have the repairs done at that time. He also did not have the reimbursement check, and said he would tell the office to send it to me. I still have not received it. Several weeks later, I had another HVAC Company come out for a 2nd opinion. They gave me a window of 1/2 hour for their technician to arrive, and he was right on time. I told him about the previous experience, but not what repairs were suggested. He took one look at my furnace and A/C unit and told me right off the bat that my system was 18 years old, and only has a lifespan of 15-20 years. He advised me to not put any money into the unit as long as it's running, and that I should start considering getting estimates on a new system. I eventually did tell him what repairs were recommended, and he looked at the capacitor. He pointed out a small amount of oil, but said it wasn't bad enough to be concerned with in a unit this old. All of the employees that I dealt with, either over the phone or in person, were very pleasant and polite. I was disappointed with being rescheduled twice, having to wait around the house all afternoon and they still missed the 4 hour window they set, not being up front with me about the age and lifespan of my current system, and not honoring their promise to reimburse me. 8/23/12 - This update is pretty late, and I want to apologize to Cooper Heating and Cooling for not posting it sooner. Shortly after I posted my original review, I received the $75 check in the mail. I also received two phone calls from representatives from the company. The first was an apology and to let me know the check was on it's way. The 2nd was to confirm I received the check, and they apologized again. I appreciate the phone calls and written response to my review, and would be willing to give them another chance in the future when a need for their services arises.

We typically provide replacement options if the technician recommends replacement over repair. Regardless, you are correct, a replacement option should have been provided given a 15 year-old air conditioner. We called Cooper on June 19 because our air conditioner was not working and the coils were frozen. Cooper was booked until June 27, so we made the appointment 8 days out for June 27 between 8 and 1. About 11 AM on June 27, they called and said they were running late. We received another call at 4. The repair man on the phone asked us to describe the problem. We said the air conditioner was working at that time, but that the thermostate stated that there was over 100 faults for frozen coils. The repair man said that he said he could come over on Monday ONLY if the air conditioner wasn't working. We cancelled.
Description of Work: They did not perform any service. After waiting 8 days, they called 3 hours after the designated time stating that they could come over 5 days later.

Overall I got a great deal for the price paid and I would call Cooper again.
Description of Work: I purchased a coupon on Angie's List for a/c tune up. The gentlemen from Cooper H&A showed up on time and did a great job. They even honored the price of the coupon for my heater and a second airconditioner. They were punctual, couteous, and very helpful.

I recently submitted a report regarding Cooper Heating and rated them an "F" for poor customer service when trying to schedule service. In response, the customer service manager contacted me and offered me incentives to try them again. When my thermostat malfunctioned, I called Cooper Heating to give them another try. I was able to schedule someone to come out the next morning. The technician arrived promptly on schedule and was very professional. He diagnosed the problem quickly and showed me the various options I had. He performed the service quickly. I was very satisfied with this service.

Coco, the technician, arrived late, even after the 4-hour scheduling window had been moved that morning from 11-3 to 1-5. I suspect the company was trying to catch up with postponed appointments due to cold weather the week before. Coco moved quickly and appeared to be experienced and knowledgeable in his trade. He first checked the air handler and evaporator coil in the attic, and then checked the condensing unit on the ground. He found both the inside and outside coils to be very clean. His pressure and temperature measurements showed the system to be low on refrigerant, which he then added. He added more refrigerant that I had expected the system to need, even after eight years. I am a little suspicious of the accuracy of Coco's instruments, as my own measurements of the "approach temperature" over the past three weeks show the system is now overcharged, though not by enough to be harmful. The "approach temperature" is only about 5 degrees compared to the Lennox specification of 12 degrees. I wish Cooper and other HVAC companies would include a checklist of the "25-points," as I have no idea what they are. I also wish they would include all their pressure and temperature measurements for future reference.
Description of Work: The company's HVAC technician performed a "25-point A/C tuneup" for $50 off the regular price and added refrigerant.
