I don't think the ducts got all cleaned out. One of the still had stuff in it when I looked inside of it. They did an OK job, but I will find someone else to do it next time. They also didn't tell me ahead of time about all the holes they had to make in the duct work and then patch them up.
Description of Work: cleaned out the ducts. I don't remember the date or the exact price.

Dear Member, Thank you for your business. I regret that you were not informed of the process from start to finish before we began our work. While cutting into the duct work and then patching it is standard procedure for duct cleaning, our associates certainly should have made you aware of this. I apologize for any inconvenience. Our A/C died during the hot spell in 2012. Since Cooper was "certified" by Home Depot, we contacted them for an estimate. The estimator was friendly and very helpful. Unfortunately, since it was during summer, they could not replace our unit for 5-6 weeks. When the time came, the workers were very friendly and respectful. The work was done quickly and efficiently. Two days later, it seemed that the unit was not cooling as it should, so we called their service number. Contacting Cooper was a nightmare. Voicemails were never returned. I got put on hold several times and left there. I was transferred to someone who (supposedly) was there, but had been on vacation. Thankfully, someone mistakenly answered the phone, and I was able to keep them on the line until I got a service call scheduled, two days later! When the date/time came for the service call, nobody came. Hours passed, and still no service. Dreading it, I tried to call the office and got the typical voicemail "ping pong." Again, after persistently calling and recalling, I was able to find out that no one had "scheduled" our service call! Fortunately, they had a serviceman who had just finished another job, and his next job had been cancelled (I wonder why!), so they sent him to us. He was wonderful to work with and explained what was going on. Everyone from Cooper who came to our house was extremely pleasant and professional; however, their office staff and procedures are terrible!
Description of Work: Cooper replaced broken house air conditioner, inside and outside units.

The Cooper people were very professional and fast. The two installers were very efficient and courteous. They even put runners on the carpet so they wouldn't get the carpet dirty. I'm not sure I got the best price, but they have a price guarantee, and my furnace was the original from when the house was built 30+ years ago and it was about to die at any time, so it was time to get a new one any way. I would recommend Cooper to anyone.

Awsome!! the installation went great, Cooper Heating and Cooling did the units while they had a sub (P&L Electric) that did the electrical work. All work was done in a timely manner and all the guys took time to explain what they did or were doing to make sure we were happy with the install. The Cooper team did an outstanding Job with explaining how the system worked and even came back after the inspections to make sure we were happy. We passed all the inspections fine, which I can say hasn't always been the case with contractors and the county.

We had a malfunctioning A/C unit at a single family house that we manage. The A/C was freezing over in the basement and causing a puddle of water on a raw subfloor. Cooper got to the property immediately and they assessed the problem and fixed it for no more than a service call! These guys do an excellent job and never try to take advantage of you. I am stickler for prompt courteous professional service technicians and the technician aced it! I was given a window between 10am and 2pm and he showed up at 10am. Fixed the problem , talked to us about an air filtration system but was professional not pushy. he explained how dog hair got sucked into the coil and clogged the system. I have read many of the reviews and I cant believe the negative reviews, My experience with Cooper Heating and Cooling has always been great.

Our 38+ year-old-furnace gave out on of course one of the coldest weekends of the year. Cooper came out right away to evaluate and go over our options. We had to wait a couple of days for the order to come in, so they lent us 3 space heaters to keep the pipes from freezing and then came installed the new furnace on a Sunday. We chose Cooper because they had great reviews and did installs on the weekend, plus they did a great job. We would definitely use them again.

Arrived promptly and completed the work quickly. Courteous and helpful. Asked for subsequent estimate on both forced air and hydronic heating systems to replace current forced air. Received estimate for forced air system replacement. Totally ignored my request for hydronic heating estimate. Did not say could or could not do hydronic heating. OK vendor - just not what I was looking for.

Dear Member, Thank you for your business and for your kind words regarding the service in general. I'm sorry that we missed the mark as it relates to the hydronic estimate that you had requested. I have researched the history on your account and have counseled the service technician who performed the estimate on the forced air system. Unfortunately sometimes people get into a "that's not my department" mentality and we aggressively train our employees to avoid that notion at Cooper Heating & Cooling. This should never have happened and has become a teachable moment for both the technician who was dispatched to your home as well as for the rest of our service team. Needless to say, we have an entire hydronics division and are more than capable of meeting your every need. As a business owner I am upset whenever we miss the mark, especially when the mark was such an easy one to hit in this situation. If there is anything that I can do to regain your business please let me know. I would be more than happy to provide an estimate for any hydronic work that you need and will do so with a significant discount as a token of our appreciation for your patience. I can be reached at mcassity@coopergreenteam.com or on my direct line at (720) 305-5621. Sincerely, Michael Cassity, President Cooper Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical

This was one of the better experiences I've had with a service provider. The tech that they sent out was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. In addition, they squeezed me in on a Sunday, after an early morning panicked phone call hoping to find someone who could come out on a Sunday to perform work. They showed up within the time frame quoted, and fixed the problem within about 10 minutes. Just to make sure, the tech also checked the pressure on our system to make sure there were no other issues that might require attention. The next day, we received a call from the provider asking about our experience and confirming that everything went as expected. I was extremely impressed by the follow up call! That's customer service! Been a long time since I've dealt with such a pleasant company. Will DEFINITELY be using them for any future HVAC needs. They've made a loyal customer out of me with a single visit!
Description of Work: We were having an issue with our Air Conditioner and water leakage. Turns out the drain line from the AC to the condensation pump was blocked. Tech checked all applicable areas and confirmed air flow and pressure in the system.

Everything went well until we got a second opinion on the AC unit. We were told by the other company that our AC unit would last another 10 years after Cooper said we needed to replace it ASAP. Cooper gave us a bid between $5,000 and $7,000 for parts and installation for a new AC. Glad we got a second opinion. I wonder how much we overpaid to replace the motor on the furnace. It also took a week to get an appointment.

. Went through Costco, the initial install of units was poor, quality of workmanship was substandard. They were there till 8:30 that night and didn't even install humidifier. Had to call them to arrange the humidifier install. When I wanted them to send someone out to look look at the install they no showed no call, then I had to call them the day of the reschedule, because it was after their appointment window. They finally got the install corrected. The reinstall tech's were at my house till 11:30pm after showing up at 9am. The customer service at this office is poor. I was constantly calling them when they would tell me they would call. The salesman Tony never contacted me during this whole experience, after he got the check he was done. This is even after I asked the office t have him contact me. I would not use them again. Would probably not use Costco contractors again either. Just an update, two months later finally got inspectors from county and state to show up for what I am hoping to get final buy off for install taken care of this on going fiasco. The electrical inspector from the state fails the inspection of the electrical installation due to installation of the wrong circuit breakers in the sub box installed by Cooper. The inspector says the correct ones are listed right on the door of the box. I WOULD NEVER HIRE THESE GUYS AGAIN, FOR ANYTHING. Had I known what I know now I would have gone with a company that has to stand behind their work, not some company that is a big corporation that treats the small jobs as just a get it done quick and get out, without the quality or customer service to worry about.

Cut hole in ceiling at wrong spot, resulting in us having to coordinate our schedules to have a drywall person repair the ceiling. The fan is quite loud, probably not the best quality machine. Also, I was charged for a thermostat, which should not be placed on a WHF in the first place, because you don't want a WHF turning on by itself. A thermostat was not installed, but only an on/off switch. I contacted Cooper to request that since they charged me for a thermostat that they instead install a timer on the fan so I could program it to turn off on it's own after several hours. I took a day off work to be home for the timer installation. Cooper called that afternoon, after I had been waiting all morning to tell me that they needed to "order the part" so no one would be coming that day afterall. This morning an electrician finally came to install the timer. He instructed my husband and I about how easy it is to program. After he left, we read the instructions and tried to program it. The timer does not work AT ALL. All you can do is turn it off and on manually. None of the programming buttons function at all. Thus, my experience with Cooper has not been good and I cannot recommend that others use this service. I certainly will not use Cooper again in the future.

Unfortunately, I have had a very poor customer experience with Cooper, so I encourage you to use caution and be skeptical if you choose to use their services . Bottom line: 1) they used questionable sales tactics, 2) needed extensive prodding to complete the work that had been agreed upon (in writing), 3) performed poor quality work (just short of being failed by the city inspector), 4) required numerous return visits , and 5) management has failed to return my calls to discuss the situation with them. I am surprised and disappointed at my experience with Cooper given that they were awarded a 2012 Super Service award and given that they are affiliated with Costco. Perhaps they have simply gotten too big for their operations and have started sacrificing quality and customer satisfaction. Here's an overview of my experience with them: 1) I hired them to clean and service 2 air conditioner units that cool my house. 2) When the service technician (Brenton) arrived, he gave me a long explanation of how one of my air conditioners should really be replaced not serviced. It is important to understand that the business model Cooper uses involves having the service technicians double as sales reps. (So, as other reviewers have noted, you should expect them to upsell you into a new unit even if your current unit could be repaired). Just one example of a questionable sales tactic: he told me that neither of the existing units were built to use filters, which is a code violation, and that we should bring it up to code by cutting the sheet metal and putting in a high grade filter. As it turns out, both units already had filters on them and this was completely unnecessary. So, he was either incompetent or deceptive. 3) I agreed to have a new system installed instead of upgrading the old one. I also agreed to some cosmetic repairs (such as putting insulation around the condenser line, adjusting the condensate drain pipe out of the attic, etc), and explicitly requested that all systems be brought up to code. 4) When the installers arrived to install the new unit, they didn't know anything about the other repairs that needed to be made despite being on the original sales work order. Note: other than not knowing about half of the work order, the installation crew seemed to do a good job. 5) When the electrician (who was needed to ensure the electrical work is up to code) came, he stripped the screw securing the safety plate in the breaker box, so whenever the front cover was opened the safety plate would drop out exposing the back-end wiring. 6) When I called to have the electrician return, I had to fight with the dispatcher to get someone sent out prior to 4 days out (to fix their mistake on a live breaker box). 7) After the air conditioner installation was complete, I had to again fight with the dispatcher to send someone out to finish the second half of the work order. They did eventually send Brenton (the original service technician / sales rep back out, but he didn't arrive until literally after 9:00pm and consequently rushed through the work. 8) Several days go by, and there an alarm on the thermostat indicates that a water leak was detected. So I call to get a service technician / sales rep sent out to come and fix it. It is Brenton again. He check the system and assures me that there is no leak, and that we should just reset the thermostat and hope for the best. He writes up the ticket as a false alarm. Next morning of course the alarm is on the thermostat again indicating the water leak. So I call Cooper again to have them come out and fix it. 9) They double checked and found no leaks in the system so they agree to replace the thermostat which was apparently defective. Of course they did not bring one on the truck so they need to go get one and come back. They finally replace it and leave, at which point I discover that they failed to reconnect the outside thermometer to the new thermostat. At this point, I am just done with Cooper. 10) A week or so goes by and the other AC unit (the one that was supposedly serviced, but not replaced by Cooper) stops cooling. So, I called a different HVAC company who comes and promptly fixes it. However, they mentioned that the unit should really be cleaned and serviced. You can imagine my surprise since I had just paid Cooper to do exactly that! 11) Next, I get a notice in the mail that the AC installation needs to be inspected by the city. Also, as part of the air conditioner inspection, we need to have new smoke detectors / carbon monoxide detectors throughout the house. (My sense is that should have been disclosed as part of the sales process since it is a hidden expense). 12) I schedule the inspection and am again disappointed (but no longer surprised) to learn that the city inspector is tempted to fail the installation due to poor workmanship. Ultimately, he did not fail the inspection because it was borderline, but he suggested that I call Cooper and talk it over with them to give them the opportunity to make it right. 13) So, I did call Cooper to discuss the situation. I asked who I should talk with and was directed to Dana Arnold. They asked me who was calling, and apparently I didn't rate as a high enough priority because they sent me to voicemail. I asked Dana to give me a call back or forward my call on to someone who could address my concerns. That was over two weeks ago and I still have not had any contact from Cooper. All-in-all this has been a very disappointing service encounter. Perhaps it is an exception to their normal service levels, but there are enough service failures here that it might suggest that this is their new standard. Given their abysmal service level and their failure to so much as call me back I feel compelled to caution you about using their service. On a final note, I also have not seen anything from Costco regarding the fulfillment of the Costco promotion. Given how poorly Cooper has executed on the rest of the work, I have to wonder if Costco is even aware that I purchased a new system, and I am skeptical that I will ever see anything from them, but time will tell.

Cooper was recommended by a friend of ours. They were very informative when I asked about the different options available. They were very reasonable on cost, we got several estimates on this job. Their service was excellent and resolved a problem immediately on the day of installation with no delay. I would recommend them to anybody because they did an excellent job. We have an older house, so they had to drill through some plaster and the exterior brick. They did it in a way that minimized the impact on the structure of the house. They were in the middle of the pack of the estimates that we got. From the salesman that came out to the installer, the whole project was handled very professionally. We would absolutely use them again and recommend them to friends.

I contacted this company about servicing several buildings. They initially got back to me, requesting more information. I sent it over. That was almost a week ago. They never bothered to follow up. Can't have that with an HVAC company.

Response from Cooper Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electric
Dear Member, I am very sorry for this unfortunate circumstance which is certainly not indicate of Cooper's level of customer service that has defined our excellent reputation in Colorado for over 35 years. I do not intend for this to serve as an excuse, because there is no excuse. Instead, I would like to offer an honest response as to what happened with the hope of regaining your trust and an opportunity to earn your business. Your file was misplaced during a personnel change within our commercial estimating department. As the person who previously held the position of commercial estimator (the day you submitted your service request) was training his replacement, your file was set to the side for further review but the new commercial estimator was not made aware of it and, accordingly, did not respond. Again, I apologize that this happened, it should not have, and it will certainly not happen again. Your bid is active and is in-process this very week and we will continue to be in dialogue with you to acquire the additional information we need as it progresses. Sincerely, Michael Cassity President

Where should I start? We called a number of companies we found here on Angie's list about installing A/C and modifying some old gravity-style vents in our 1940s era one-story. When we had Cooper come out to do an estimate, we decided to go with them. We were sold for three reasons: Angie's list rating, Costco affiliation (we would get a rebate for going through them), and they said they could modify our old gravity-style vents to modern wall vents for an extra $200. Considering how hard that last bit would be, we thought it would be a steal. We thought wrong. What followed was the worst install experience I have ever had. From our initial meeting, and payment (same day, since we set things up through costco) it has now been nearly two months and things are not yet fully resolved. To start, because we have an old house and they were going to modify the gravity vents, they had us take pictures and send them to them so the installers had an idea of what they would need to do. Based on that, they said they'd come out and do a walk-through before the install (which was scheduled two weeks after we had payed etc.). On the day of the walk-through no one showed up. So, after two hours of waiting around, I called in to the main office and discovered that they hadn't even put the walkthrough on their schedule. Awesome. So, we re-scheduled the walkthrough for the next day. Three hours before they're supposed to show up that day, I got a call informing me that, as it so happens, they shouldn't need to do a walk-through and we were good to go for our install that weekend. Fine. Whatever. I'd wasted a few hours of my time, but surely they knew what they're doing. After all, their Angie's list rating was super-high. The day of the install, the crew arrived two hours late (for a morning appointment, no less), had no idea that they were supposed to modify the vents, and spent two hours doing measurements that the installers said "should have been done on the walkthrough." At the end of all of this, I was informed that they did not have the materials they needed, and that they would have to completely modify all the major duct lines in the basement (since they were sized for a gravity furnace originally, they are bigger than modern ducts). "Fine," I thought, "they should have done a walkthrough, but if they don't have what they need, they don't have what they need." I was told I would get a call the following Monday to re-schedule. Monday comes, no call. Tuesday comes, no call. By Wednesday, I called them. We got everything rescheduled for another two weeks out and I was assured that this time they'd have everything they'd need. Once again, they showed up late for the install. These installers said the previous installers were crazy, and that the basement duct work would not need to be redone, and they were confused why the other team hadn't installed the A/C the first time. Fine, whatever. I just wanted them to install it and for all this to be over. Well, nearly two hours after they said they'd be done, they finished up with the A/C install and informed me that they couldn't modify the vents because they didn't have what they needed, and didn't know how to accomplish the modification. Further, the installer recommended, because we have plaster walls, that we shouldn't bother with the modification. Now, at this point I was rather frustrated, and said, "Well, we paid for that, so either we get that done or we get a refund for that." In response, I was told I would get a call from the install manager to make an appointment for him to take a look at everything, and we'd go from there. Once again, no call. By Wednesday of that week I called him and managed to get him to come out and take a look. He hemmed and hawed for a while as he took measurements. Meanwhile, I repeated, "If it's not possible to do the vents you guys can just refund the $200 dollars we paid, but considering we chose you because we were told you could do it, we'd really like it done if possible." He said he'd make some "models" back at the main office and give us a call to let us know when they could do it. Guess what? After five days without a call (I gave him time to make his models?I suspect none were ever made), I had to call them again. They said they could do the vents, we got it all arranged and scheduled. The day they were scheduled to do the vents, the installers showed up two hours late, and after messing around with one vent for an hour (making the large cuts in the plaster necessary for them to move the vent up the wall) they informed me they couldn't do it. So, I suggested they just put everything back the way it was when they arrived (minus the plaster, of course). However, they informed me that they didn't know how to do that and didn't have the time. I was left with a gaping hole in the wall while they went home. Another week of playing pin the phone on the j****** got me an agreement from their install manager that they'd come put the vent back the way it was and refund the $200. "Fine. Awesome," I thought, "I'll never use cooper for anything ever again, but at least I got A/C installed and I can figure out the vent stuff later." Well, the vent was "repaired" a week later, if you can call it that (probably the worst duct-work I've ever seen), and I received a $200 check in the mail. I am now waiting for someone to swing by so I can sign off on the final paperwork (which I had refused to do until they had fulfilled their end of things). Original long story short: Cooper is the worst install company I have ever dealt with. Their communication is horrible, their professionalism is horrible, and they promise things they cannot deliver, meanwhile doing more damage than good. I still have to repair the plaster they cut, and potentially have someone look at their shoddy "repair" job in general. If I counted the hours and effort I've had to spend getting them to do what they said they would do to begin with, they'd probably owe me another $800. Which, by the way, would have them as the most expensive company we talked to. You know, the motto of customer service is usually "under promise, over deliver." In this case it was more like "over promise, screw over." Updates as of 12/02/2013 So, it's been a while since this review was initially posted. To Cooper Heating and Cooling's credit, this review was taken seriously, and I was contacted by a customer service manager after it went live to "address our failures." This initially led to some wonderful interactions with Cooper. Around mid-summer they fixed the plaster they destroyed, gave me an additional 200 dollars back, informed me that the people who had bungled the job had been let go and that they'd appreciate it if I updated my review to reflect their actions, and things seemed to be almost settled. However, I waited to update the review because I had never signed off on the completion paperwork, and I was quite positive this needed to happen in order to receive my rebate through Costco. Theres a specific form and everything, and I wasn't about to tell everyone about my experience until it was actually over. After two weeks of cooper "looking into it" I was told that everything was in order and things should be just peachy. I then got a call back about a week later that in order to finish up the paperwork, it turns out they needed a serial number off of the AC coil they installed. I gave them the serial number over the phone and they said, "everything's great and you should be receiving your rebate within four to six weeks." I expressed my concern that I had never signed any actual completion paperwork, but was told it was all taken care of. Needless to say, time passed and nothing happened. The ensuing time between early August and the present day was spent trying to get my customer service manager on the phone (often requiring multiple messages spread across two different phone numbers and up to two weeks). Once I was successful, I was originally told that Costco had dropped the ball, and that everything was now in order?I was told something functionally equivalent to, "It's all fixed, no thanks to Costco, and please don't be mad at us." However, after "it's all fixed" turned out to be a code for "can't you see we are totally incompetent?" and another six weeks went by without a rebate arriving, I went in to my local Costco warehouse to inquire on that end. "Perhaps," I thought, "Costco is really quite bad at sending out these rebates." Nope. Their system (which I was shown) showed no notes or anything on file from Cooper that they had completed the job and I was owed a rebate. I immediately had an assistant manager of the Costco warehouse on the case?without asking, or submitting an Angie's list review. AMAZING! After a little less than 48 hours with this individual on the case, I got a call letting me know that she had talked to the rebate center and that after working some stuff out (usually the vendor is required to request the rebate be sent on completion of the job), my rebate card should be on its way, and to call her personal cell number if I encounter any further problems. Now, that message came on Tuesday night of this last week. However, I have a good feeling about it this time?which is more than I can say since the first time I dealt with Cooper Heating and Cooling. Seriously. If I had to find a way to torture someone into giving up state secrets, I'd simply sign them up to have A/C installed by Cooper Heating and Cooling and wait. So, while I may be a bit naive in updating this review without the card in my hand, I'm guessing we're finally done here. Or, at least done enough for my point?and Cooper's?to be fully made. Even longer story short: They sucked super hard, tried to make things better?did?and then a promptly sucked as hard as possible once again. I wanted to think my experience was a fluke, but the ensuing "fix" tells me that's unlikely.
