Three movers showed up when I requested two ($10 extra/hr), they were slow (8 hours, with plenty of smoke breaks and "what do you think we should do?" conversations), they broke 3 pieces of furniture, and put a doorknob through a wall in one of the bedrooms though they deny that this happened. My husband had to step in and coordinate the move when he just couldn't stand it any more.
All Star Moving is not a professional company. One of the guys today admitted that this was his first moving job ever, and all of the workers have the option of being paid under the table. They were incredibly nice guys, but untrained in how to pack and carry - two moving essentials. I had to ask multiple times for the men to make more than one trip instead of seeing how many headboards or side tables that they could bang and carry up my stairs in one trip. They had to borrow tools from my husband in order to unhook the washer and dryer. They didn't even have back braces. Someone is going to get hurt.
As for any compensation when they break your things, don't even think about it. Owner Monzell is shifty, tried to charge us for an extra hour, and at the end of the heated phone negotiations told us he "had a wood guy" he could send over for our furniture and then slapped us with a $35 stair fee on top of everything else. After a final phone conversation later that evening, when Monzell said he would talk to his team and return my call the next day, I never heard from him again. A typical exchange on the call went along the lines of me saying "Your team was slow until my dad and husband joined in to speed things along," and Monzell responding "I wasn't there - I can't be responsible for what my workers are doing."
So...if you don't like your money or your stuff, and you don't have anything better to do all day, totally give these guys a call. As for us, we'll be fighting these charges with the help of our credit card company. FYI - Monzell prefers cash...
