They charged a non-refundable $55 just to check on the mower. Said it would be 10 - 12 days before they could get to it. After 12 days I called them. They said it was in process of evaluation and they would call back that night. Two days later I called again. They said it was in process of evaluation, and I said that is what they had told me two days ago. That night they left a message that it would cost $220 to replace the carburetor and tune it up. After reading their reviews I knew it was a scam. I found another repair person, Angelos Mower. The next day I picked up the mower at Earls. They took their time bringing it out so I could look over their new mowers, as they were subtly urging me to buy a $315 new mower instead of paying $220 to fix old one. Angelo had my mower running beautifully in one hour, great service and total cost was $79. No carburetor was needed. Wish I had gone to him in the first place! Earl's Saw Shop has horrible service. Their gig is to scam you into either buying a new one or paying exorbitant charges for unneeded repairs. I love to support locally owned businesses, but this place is totally unprofessional and doesn't deserve your business.
Description of Work: We took Mower in to get it repaired and ready for the season, as it wouldn't start.

If you wonder why mom and pop saw shops are dwindling, look no further than the creeps at Earls. It's a family owned business, and Earl's wife is one of the most unpleasant, rude business owners I've ever met. Earl, meanwhile sulks around the place, barely saying anything at all, and his sons are reminiscent of the backwoods weirdos in the movie "Deliverance." Like others, I was promised a loaner mower, but was told there was a 15 business-day backlog on repairs. So, after dropping my mower off 5 days earlier, I showed up before closing time to pick up the loaner and was all but lambasted by Ms. Creepy Earl, who told me between gasps from her oxygen tank "oh, no, I'm not letting any mowers out over night, because you won't bring it back on time. We told you that when you came in the first time.' Of course, they told me no such thing. In fact, when informed that it would be 15 business days, I said, 'no thanks,' but was convinced by the son to take the loaner. When Ms. Creep Earl told me, 'no way,' to taking the loaner, I asked for my $50 deposit back, and was told I needed to get back in line and way until she took her sweet time with another customer. Seriously, this place is a throwback to another time when some local merchants, being the only game in town, felt no compunction about treating customers as if they were doing us a favor just by taking our money. BTW, I am still waiting on the return of my $50 deposit.

Work required 5 weeks. Owner provided a loaner mower for us on two occasions, but the extended repair duration was a hardship. In addition, the shop was not proactive in communicating with me in that no progress calls were made, my calls were not returned and it took several calls to reach a live voice. The work was done as requested, but throttle line damage was not noted which was too bad. Overall, this provider is the only game in town and is therefore very busy. If I had a local option, I would try them the next time.
Description of Work: Tuned up lawn mower and sharpened mower blade. Work was to be performed in a 2-week period.

We were very disappointed in the way business was conducted at Earl's Saw Shop. We had to wait for over three weeks for the service to be completed. The day I dropped the mower off the employees were very unprofessional in front of customers to the point of being rude. We were never given any discount for the long wait or offered any apology.
Description of Work: We took our lawn mower in to have a tune up. We were having difficulty getting it to start.

SERVICEMEN WERE KNOWLEDGEABLE AND COMPLETED ALL REPAIRS LISTED. TRIMMER RAN OK WHEN RETURNED. LOANERS WERE AVAILABLE FOR A FEE AND DEPOSIT WAS REQUIRED. REPAIRS WERE SLOW - BUSY SEASON.
Description of Work: TRIMMER WOULDN'T START: REPLACED FUEL FILTER, FUEL LINES AND SPARKPLUG. CLEANED AIR FILTER, INTAKE AND COOLING AREAS, REBUILT CARB USING CARB KIT AND ADJUSTED.

THE CHIPPER/SHREDDER WORKED VERY WELL AFTER THEY DID THE SERVICE ON IT. THEY WERE VERY THOROUGH AND CHECKED THE ENGINE AS WELL AS THE CHIPPER BLADES. BUT IT TOOK THEM FOREVER TO GET IT DONE.
