We contracted Mr David Geier of "Techmaster Maintenance" to install an evaporative cooler (swamp cooler) on 06.10.11. To date, the swamp cooler system is still not functioning. The main vent is not working anywhere near full capacity and the bedroom vents are not getting any air. I (Jon Kalter) went up into the attic to look at the system and noticed that the main duct coming from Evaporative Cooler on the roof was not attached to central duct housing (see attached picture). After this finding, we had someone else come out to look at the system to see what needed to be fixed, and they said this was the worst install that they had seen "in 25 years". We were also informed that this type of install needed a permit, which was not pulled. They also indicated the following: * All ducts sized improperly, built incorrectly (to include using the wrong type of duct material - duct material not rated for humidified cool air - also too small to feed bedrooms); and not a single one attached correctly and firmly to central ductwork housing or sheetrock in rooms) * Swamp cooler installed improperly on roof: Electrical and Water Wiring/ plumbing ran inside heavily humidified main duct (not in conduit on outside of unit and ductwork) to swamp cooler; Non Sealed installation allowing for at least half of cooled air to escape to the outside air on roof; Roof penetration not properly sealed allowing for water leakage into attic; Installed too close to ridge line on roof (per code for wind load) * Main duct grille not attached according to code (simply screwed into drywall), could fall on someone's head Waterline pierced and leaking during installation; not properly fixed In order to get this system up and running, we have been quoted an additional $1200 on labor. We are asking for the $800 in labor costs returned to us since the system is not functioning and numerous fixes are needed to not only make this operational, but to fix the damage Mr. Geier made.
Description of Work: The Services Dave Geier of Techmaster Maintenace attempted to perform was to source and install an evaporative cooling system. This is a rooftop mounted unit, to include electrical and water connections.
