NEW IMAGE PAINTING

The owner was professional when he gave us the estimate, which was a very good price. He recommended using a paint that we previously knew to be very good. That was the last we saw of the owner. On the first day, the preparation, which we considered extremely important since this is their base, was rushed and substandard and we made them come back and re-do it. For example, they did things like priming over bubbled paint instead of wire-brushing and/or sanding first; huge drips down the side of the house; and nail spots even more noticeable because of shoddy caulking. After that first day I went around the house taking notes and ended up with a 30-line list of everything that was wrong. Clearly they had some good painters and some terrible painters on the crew, and every day we came home, we could tell who did what side of the house. On the 2nd day, we told the guy in charge something like, "You know what you are doing, we don't want to have to point out every day all the mistakes: we expect you to make it right without us having to go over everything every day". But that was not the case at all. The site supervisor was a very nice guy but may be clueless when it comes to supervising or evaluating quality. Every day we got home and one part of the house looked really sharp and another part looked unbelievably half-a**ed. Every day I would come home and be appalled that they left the house like that, and he would call and say, "Is everything ok?" Duh, NO! They had to paint the front door THREE TIMES: the first time, they sprayed it (and our rug and our wind chimes and the brick) and then they went over mistakes with a big brush; the second time, they sprayed it and then scratched a 4-inch gouge in the fresh paint---at eye level. They oversprayed and got paint all over the property such as on our plant pots; our fence; our rugs; etc. What really annoyed me at the end was the owner called demanding I give the supervisor the final check on the last day and yet the owner never came by to inspect the final job. Although now our house looks quite good, and we get lots of compliments and requests for their name, I tell people that would not recommend them because it was way too much work to beat them over the head to make things right.
