J & S Services - James Mason Owner

Mr. Mason performed work for my mother (80013). Per her statement "Owner, James Mason, contracted with myself to rock out my front yard. It was agreed that $500 would go to materials and $300 upon completion of job. This is reflected on my receipt. I paid Mr. Mason $500 so he could order the materials. This was on 10/18/17. He stated he would start the job on 10/19/17. He called me that morning and stated that his grandmother had died and he needed to go out of town. I understood and told him to contact me in a few days. I called him 10/26/17 to find out the status of the job. Mr. Mason told me I had to give him $500 more because he had miss-measured the quantity of rock needed for the job. I told him I could not afford that and requested a refund. He told me he could not refund the money as he had used it to order materials and to pay his workers. My daughter came over and called Mr. Mason. She asked for a refund, or the materials and the money difference for the $500. He said that he did not need to tell her how much he paid for items, would not give an itemized receipt, and told her to take him to court. I told her to tell him, I would only give the agreed upon price, and he once again agreed to finish the job the next day. He continued to lie to me about where he was getting the materials (I called Pioneer Sand and Gravel to investigate - he was telling us each differing stories). He kept putting off the material order and labor. I saw him last on 10/28/17 - when he stated he needed to get the remaining $300 for materials, before work could commence. He ended up paying Pioneer Sand and Gravel $200 (@ $130 for delivery + @ $70 of rock). He spread out weed cloth on a small portion of the lawn and dumped the rock on the cloth. He spread the rock around the cloth and left. Not even 1/4 of my lawn was rocked. I tried to contact him to finish the job and was met with lies and delays. I have 2 receipts, pictures before and after the job, a voicemail to my daughter from Mr. Mason stating he would get $300 more rock."
