Issues on the workmanship provided by Herrera Contractors include, but are not limited to the following: - Rough sanding marks left in the wood - Dirt and dust particles left on the wood, now trapped in the finish - Numerous squeaks not fixed as promised - Transitions in doorways left incomplete - Large warped divots created in wood due to poor hand-sanding - Uneven surfaces caused by poor hand-sanding - Large areas where filler completely covers portions of the wood - Holes and imperfections that were not properly filled - Inadequate protection placed over homeowners electronics, vents and furniture to protect against wood dust - Inadequate cleaning promised of areas that were not covered - Use of oil-based finish when water-based finish was promised - Debris left behind for homeowner to dispose of (no roll-off was used as outlined in agreement)
Description of Work: We hired this contractor to install wood floors. He started out strong but ended very badly. When left town so that they could do the coats of finish and complete the sanding, but Jeff left his inexperienced workers unsupervised to slap coats of finish over the flooring without doing proper fine sanding. They left off transitions at the doorways, warped areas of the floor because of their poor hand-sanding, and did an overall horrible job in finishing. The floors went from promising raw wood to horrible yellow-y rough varnished woods. The dust and splinters were trapped in the finish. He used oil-based finish instead of the water-based he promised.Several other contractors working on our house saw his work, and all agreed it was horrific. They did not cover our furniture and left dust everywhere. We're still cleaning up the mess they left behind. We had to hire another contractor to sand the wood back down and refinish the brand new wood. They do not own their own equipment which delays jobs while they take things back each. He even delayed the project for three days because he didn't have $200 to pay for supplies. It was a holiday weekend so he couldn't cash our check. If a contractor does not have a $200 credit line at Home Depot, they should not be trusted. At that point, we had paid him $7300 toward the total $10,000 job. According to our agreement, we had already paid him $3144 more than what the contract required as the deposit because he was having money troubles. Ultimately, we used Angie's List to hire an A rated service to correct the issues Herrera Contractors left behind. Needless to say, we terminated the contract with Herrera and did not pay the balance because we had to use it to correct the problems with a company that knew how to do it correctly. It cost us $3000 to correct the problems Herrera left behind. DO NOT TRUST THIS CONTRACTOR. Trusted contractors have good credit and do not constantly ask for more money outside of the agreement. If you want to hear excuses every day of your project for why they don’t show up on time and why they need more money and then get horrible results after all the hassle, then hire these guys. Jeff as a single worker may be okay for some smaller jobs (he successfully completed a small bath tile project for us prior to this which is why we trusted him), but this was way over his capabilities. He should have never taken this job. He didn’t have the skilled workers, correct equipment and supplies, or the management skills to do it well. He also installed a toilet during that small tile job, but it leaked. Take your chances with this one.
