Grandma's Handyman Service, Inc.

I wanted to replace two large wall speakers with three small ones, a small job involving replacing sheet rock over the fireplace. I contacted Grandma's and gave their representative the information. After arriving fifteen minutes late their tech was here for over two and one-half hours and managed to patch the small section of sheetrock. Every time he went to his car to get a tool or supply he took a cigarette break. Our entire home smelled of second-hand smoke the entire time he was here. I had to open windows after he left. He didn't bring enough sheetrock so he took a half-hour trip to Lowe's, which is less than two mile's away. My overall impression was that he was taking far too long to complete this job. He was either unqualified or he was just slow. Either way I ended up overpaying for what is an incomplete job. I finally told him to finish what he was doing and pack up. He did not clean the places where drywall mud dripped onto other areas. He was paid the trip fee and for the time he was here. I called the company and talked to Granny. She told me that was the way they did things.

It went well. The handyman was on time. He was professional and did not waste time. He worked hard. He gave me estimates on future jobs which I'm considering now.

I was able to schedule this two days after calling. Shane arrived promptly and was able to fix the bed with an hour.

I am really happy and satisfied with the service and the price.

The handyman showed and I asked him to remove small portion of dropped ceiling over the sink in my bathroom and replace the can light from the drop ceiling with a normal light fixture that I had on hand. He seemed put out by the job. It took him twice as long as I had anticipated to remove the small ceiling portion. He placed the light fixture as I asked. He was very very messy, and tracked drywall mud and other debris through my house and did not clean it up. He also tore some tile off my shower surround, breaking some of the tiles in the process. He did not reattach the tiles, but let me know he would contact me to do so at a later time. He never called. He also did not finish the drywall work and dinged up my newly finished tub and toilet in the process of his tear down. I was also left with a large pile of debris on my patio to clean up. The trash was mere feet away. I was super excited to find a handyman service that responded so quickly but the work was definitely sub par.

Grandmas was easy to work with from the first call until the end of project. They guarantee their work and follow up to make sure we were satisfied with the work. Would definitely use them again. They did a great job!!

Submitted request via Angie's List. Grandma's contacted us right away to setup appt. for walk-thru to give quote [cost $35]. We were also given a description of Shane which was very thoughtful. Shane showed up as scheduled (called ahead to come early). I gave him our laundry list of items. He looked everything over, took several notes, measured for t.v. stand and asked several questions regarding t.v.stand as to what we wanted. I also had several questions regarding t.v. size and area to put t.v. in on how best to handle. Shane was very responsive on providing details and let me know if something would be costly. Also stated because of HOA and screens in windows he wasn't sure if he would be able to do or not. Couple days later quote came in which we thought was fair (maybe a bit high) however; if we went with quote our $35 pre-quote was taken off final bill along with Angie's List discount. I informed Grandma's we wanted to move forward. Shane's schedule was reviewed and we were given dates he would be here. Email quote also gave us the name of company and phone # for window screens. This is above / beyond what we were expecting. Shane couldn't do the screens but he [Grandma's] took the time to provide somebody who could. That's great customer service; something which is rare these days! Shane showed up as scheduled. Had all necessary tools. He once again took measurements for t.v. stand to be sure he purchased necessary supplies for what was needed. Our laundry list took him 3 days but we feel the job was more than adequate. T.V. Stand - perfection. Shane being a master carpenter - made easy work of cabinet. I questioned him about using real wood rather than what he purchased. Shane was very positive in why he chose the material he did on all sides [durability/strength][I can't remember what he called it]. He did an excellent job caulking t.v. stand as well as sanding. Gave me tips as to having it painted and length of time to wait before placing any components on or in it. T.V. Stand - able to hold 53and quot; t.v. plus 3 boxes for components. He added a wood frame/facing. The stand is exactly what we were hoping to have and then some. Fantastic job! All the little stuff Shane fixed for us from our disastrous floor renovation, is perfect from molding, securing hand rails and adding caulking around where floor company missed. At the end of each day Shane cleaned up after himself. Final day, gave me survey and asked me to fill out and send in [which was already addressed and stamped], I gave him a check. True to quote is what we paid. A few days later I received a call from Grandma's and was informed they recalculated quote and we were getting money back because of actual time Shane spent here. Remember (maybe a bit high)? Well, after receiving money back - quote seems quite fair. Throughout the whole process, everything went smoothly from appearing for work, and actually working until the job was completed. Would we use Grandma's Handyman Service again? Yes, we would. Would we want Shane as our handyman again? Yes, we would. Grandma's has earned themselves a repeat business customer. It was all right. My only complaint was that we discussed what it was and it was no more than 2 hours. After 2 hours I called and asked if they could drop the $75 and put in regular time.

I liked everything about them. They were prompt and courteous. They did a good job and they were here on time. It was good customer service. I would recommend them to anybody. I would definitely use them again.

They made the repairs in a fast and professional manner

I was given a window when Michael would show up and he was early! He removed the old post, put in a new post with concrete, attached a cross post and remounted my mailbox. He was done in less than two hours. I will definitely call on Grandma's Handy Man Service again. The price was reasonable and I was able to get the service done on the day I requested.

They were reliable and she was good about it. The guy she sent out was knowledgeable. Overall, he did a good job. Overall, he was very conscientious about what he did. He did a good job.

They told us exactly what they needed to do, what it would cost and what my wife would be able to do. What was done was done was exactly as they said and they cleaned up after themselves beautifully. The only way you'd ever know that they'd been there was the fact that there were now grab bars and a shower in the bathroom that were not there before they came. We were perfectly delighted with them. We were very lucky that this guy really knew his business. He was very pleasant and he was quite elderly so he can relate to what my wife needed.

They did the work for us. He is very good. He did a very good cleanup. He did a good job.

The work went great, they were fantastic.

The day of install, worker reassessed and apologized for not being able to perform work. roof joists in way of install and electrical had to be reworked. Excellent customer service. I paid for estimate.

The gentleman who did the work on my smoke detectors did it incorrectly. I later had to hire an electrician to do it properly. I also asked for receipts for the products purchased to do the work and was told I couldn't have them because "Grandma" always added on to the cost of them. She apparently didn't want me to know how much she raised the price. Overall, I was dissatisfied with the experience.

This was not their fault, I never called them back.

Top Notch and very supportive with a door problem. Very helpful in walking me thru the problem, helping me understand door did not need replacement and showing how to repair by myself. I will go back to them when I need anything done on the house.

Our handyman, Shane, arrived right on time. He reviewed the work to be done, made some suggestions and went to work. I had Shane go to Home Depot to get the materials required for the job rather than going my self. He removed old wood, painted and prepsred the new boards, and calked everything very well before he was finished. The entire job took about 6.5 hours with a half hour lunch break. I contracted this work on a time and materials basis and I am very pleased with the total cost of the project. Shane was very professional and friendly and he cleaned up very well after the job was complete. I am very satisfied with the project and I would use the service again as well as recomend them to friends and neighbors.

It was great, and I've used them again.

We got this company from Angie's List and they were very meticulous. The service was wonderful but it was a little pricey. The woman who did the work had to come out several days in a row because she had to removed things and let them dry, install partially like the walls and let them dry. She was here every day until it was done because we had company coming from out of town to attend a funeral and she knew that we're on a time run short and she was fabulous and stayed until it was done.

Barry the installer showed up on time for the first work day and went right to work. His work was well done. He was very net and clean. I could not have had a better experience. The job was completed on the following day. I'm very pleased and would use Grandma's Handyman again

On the first visit, it appeared that the handyman had successfully addressed the issue on one of the doors but we were unable to discern if his efforts worked on the other door because of the time of day he was there, light does not shine on that door. We agreed that if his initial efforts were not successful on that door, that he would come back. His efforts included, among other things, putting in new weather stripping, adjusting the transom, adjusting the door itself, and "stuffing" the cracks with odd pieces of leftover weatherstripping. He came back approximately 2 weeks later and had to re-address his efforts toward both doors now because neither was fixed: Light and air, were still coming into the house. After his second time here, upon leaving, both doors appeared to be fixed. However, a few days later, the little pieces of weatherstripping he used around one of the doors simply popped out which was the same issue we had after his first visit. Consequently, we have the same issue on one of the doors which we had before we hired, and paid, Grandma's Handyman Service, Inc.

I called to get a number of services completed at the same time, incuding painting interior walls damaged by water. We had been reimbursed by insurance to repaint 3 rooms since they were all connected and the paint needed to match. Grandma's told us they could only repaint the area damaged and not the entire area. We did not contact them further since they could not do what was needed.
