The project changed so I went with a different company. They were fine. I was just a little disappointed because it was a $35 estimate and everybody else I contacted gave a free estimate. I eventually went with one of them. Mike was very good. He was efficient. It took about a week to get an appointment for an estimate. I would consider using them for some smaller projects.

We had a sticking glass door. No one wanted to help us because of the type of door and hinges.It wasn't a new install and only a repair. Only Grandma came through.

The ceiling panel is approx. 2' x 2.5'. It is an opaque plastic panel mounted in a metal frame. The original piece of plastic had a small hole & darkened area from the light bulb that sits directly above it. The repairman was able to use the same frame; he mounted a new plastic panel in the frame and fit it back into the ceiling opening. It actually looks better than the original now!
Description of Work: Repaired a ceiling attic access panel that also doubles as a hallway overhead light.

The flight of stairs in my home presented me with a safety hazard at the top of the stairs. My first choice was to purchase a pre-made gate. After Grandma and I discussed the gate and looked at pictures it was decided that a custom built gate would better serve my needs. I appreciated that Grandma listened carefully to my concerns and along with Mike, the technician, came-up with a design for my gate. It took a week or two to make the gate and it was well worth the wait. The gate met all my expectations and it looks great. Before Mike completed the installation of the gate, I asked if my window screens could be replaced. He agreed to do the work, purchased the supplies, and installed them on the spot. Again I was so pleased with their work. I look forward to working with this company on other projects and recommend their service.

I called grandma and told her of my plumbing problems. She informed me of the possibilities that could cause such a problem and said because of the situation I would need a certified plumber and gave me a reference. I have to say I appreciate being steered in the right direction when I come into a problem like this. I can also appreciate someone who tells you they aren't the one for the job instead of just running up a bill and doing a bad job. Will call again.

Went great; Grandma's phone people were great; very good about getting all the details and guesstimating the time and costs needed and what to do ahead of time to prep. Only unfortunate thing was that they were SUPER booked, so had to wait almost a month and 1/2 to get our 2-day job scheduled. However, once Michael came to do the work, it was all worth it! Showed up on time, was super nice and accommodating, good communicator, cleaned up after himself, and just generally so pleasant to be around. Did a terrific job and really worked hard the whole time he was here; no sitting around, dawdling, etc. Explained and discussed everything and we were so pleased! Grandma's hourly rates are a bit high for our tastes, but if you take into account all the b.s. you usually have to deal with with contractors, we think it might be worth it. Will go back and use them again if we don't have another dependable and good contractor that costs less. We totally get one reason why they're probably higher is because they're a company who has to pay employees, rather than a "one-man job" type operation. With the established company route, you get someone to deal with if there were problems, and someone for the employees to be accountable to, rather than just doing whatever they want and not showing, doing sloppy work, etc. Would absolutely recommend Grandma's and Michael.
Description of Work: Patched hole in ceiling & re-painted that entire hallway ceiling, patched hole in stairwell and re-painted entire stairwell; walls and ceiling. Put up sturdy shelves in office. Fixed section of gutter outside that was leaking/corroded. Changed light fixtures in two bathrooms.

The reason our rates are what they are is because we carry $1M/$2M General Liability Insurance and $500K Worker's Compensation Insurance and a $25K Bond. They also have the support of an office staff. We will never be able to beat the rates of an independent handyman. We feel that it is imperative that we carry Worker's Comp insurance in case our handyman is injured on the job. If we didn't have Worker's Comp you, the homeowner, would be responsible for any medical bills incurred. The work that Michael P. does is in high demand, so there is often a delay in booking him. However, we have several other technicians who do great work, so please don't hesitate to call us in the future to take care of your handyman needs. Jessica Office Manager

The customer service was excellent. I have tenants in the home so I don't see what is going on at property on a day to day basis. The handywoman that came out called me to let me know there are other issues happening with the bathroom that need to be addressed first. She will return to her office to create an estimate (with the initial offer they gave) and just hold until we address primary issues. I have had a lot of contractors/service providers come in and do cosmetic work only to learn there were other problems later which has been a waste of time and money. It is refreshing to know that service still exists and it exists at Grandma's. Thank you to Shelly.

I was extremely disappointed in this service as they were scheduled to come out and do work. They came out so late that they basically said they were only out to do an estimate and did not even end up completing the work they were supposed to do. In addition, the handyman smelled like a brewery when he showed up. Due to both circumstances, I did not trust them to do the work needed.

This gives us a good record of the work we have done for our clients and when they call to schedule another job, they don’t have to repeat all the pertinent information. We also keep the information because we provide a one year warranty on our work. We have searched all of our digital files and our paper files and cannot find a record anywhere for this member. I had hired them to do a few projects around the house that needed to be completed. I had trouble the work being performed, he was extremely slow, he was doing things I didn't ask him too, cleaning the wrong pipes, kept adding to the cost which was more than originally discussed and grandma was so mean and hateful. I was yelled at multiple times by her and I would never use them again.

Perspective is a funny thing. I remember, when I was younger, that my perspective was exceedingly different than it is today. My perspective was far from reality. As I have aged, I realize that many tasks are not as easy as I once believed. That being said, I wish to explain what was done for this member. First of all, when the member called to schedule an appointment, our rates were carefully explained. When the member described the work she wanted to have done, I booked the job for 6 hours with her approval. The member wished to have 2 new sinks installed, keeping the old faucets, etc., and new toilet tank mechanisms installed. The technician removed the old faucets, sinks, drain pipes, and water supply lines. In order to be able to re-install the old parts, they had to be cleaned. The faucet had to be taken apart and each part had to be cleaned. The drain pipes had to be cleaned. All of this had to be done in order to do the job correctly. If our technician did not do the work properly, the member would have additional plumbing problems. The major problem with the sinks was the fact that they were draining slowly. The technician discovered that the plumbing was not installed correctly in the first place. Both sinks drained into one main drain pipe and the pipes connected to that main drain pipe were going uphill. In order to correct the situation, the technician had to cut the inside of the vanity cabinet and re-plumb the drain pipes so the water from the sinks would drain downhill. This was a big job! And, the tech installed the new mechanism in the toilet tanks. This whole job cost $380.00. I discussed this job with a plumber, who is reasonably priced as far as plumbers are concerned. He said that the job for the sinks would have been at least $700.00 as it was a really big job, and the toilet tank mechanism install would cost another $150.00. The member told me that she felt that the job cost too much, however, she was really happy with the work that was done. All “F”s is really surprising. Unfortunately, I do raise my voice sometimes when I feel that I am not being heard, but I do not yell. I was never “mean and hateful” to this member or anyone else. It’s all a matter of perspective. I was a drywall finisher a long time ago. My boss would have fired me with sunken seams and texture that did not even come close to matching the rest of the ceiling. Probably will have to hire a real professional to finish.

We always appreciate the reviews from Angie’s List members, whether they are good or bad. We are encouraged by the good reviews and we learn from the poor reviews and try to improve our service. Originally the member called me after the job was completed and let me know that he was not pleased. The technician went out, at no additional charge, and corrected the work. At that time, the member told the technician that the work was good. I did speak with this member again after I saw the review. Unfortunately, the work is not perfect in his eyes but he wants to leave it as it is. He told me that his wife said it was fine. Barry was great, he showed up on time and got right to work. He worked very efficiently and was done in no time. He didn't require much instructions, and moved from one task to the next very quickly. The exterior lights look great, and we've gotten a lot of compliments. I definitely would plan to use this service again in the future.
Description of Work: Replaced 3 exterior house lights, put up wall hooks for ladder, rakes, shovels, etc. in garage. Put in a piece of drywall to cover hole in garage wall. Replaced mailbox; pulled up garden posts, wire fencing. Installed shower head in master bath. Replaced weather stripping on garage door, replaced thermostat.

She was above and beyond helpful; she was amazing. I didn’t know if they would be able to help us. So I took a picture of it and emailed it to her. She kind of talked me through the process like how much they would charge and how much it would cost if I did it myself. She let me make the choice which was a very honest and I appreciated that a lot. She helped me understand what I need to do to fix my problem. She offered me both options to do it myself as well as a very reasonable quote from their company.

The Handyman was very nice and I liked him a great deal hence I am reluctant to even write this review. I found the cost totally out of proportion to the work done. I will not be using this service again.

Whenever we talk to a customer, we are careful to explain how we work and how we charge for our services. I think that this member didn’t realize all the work that she asked to be done on her home. Originally, one day was scheduled which did indeed expanded to three days because the member kept adding more work. The first day, 6 ½ hours, the technician adjusted the front door and secured loose hinges. He installed a new dead bolt on the storm door, installed curtain rods – 2 in the living room, 1 in the kitchen, 2 in the master bedroom, and reattached 1 over the bathtub. He replaced the screen in the sliding patio door. This included a trip to purchase materials and clean-up time. The second day, also 6 ½ hours, the tech fixed the fence and reattached the down spout to the gutter. He adjusted bi-fold doors in the kitchen to operate properly. He removed the screen door to the garage and installed a door closer on the people garage door. He attempted to drill holes in concrete to mount the railing to the basement wall and hit rock and was unable to get the holes deep enough for the anchors. He burned up 6 drill bits in the process. The technician did not charge the customer for the 2 hours he spent attempting to drill the holes. He also purchased, out of his own pocket, a hammer drill that he was able to use on the next visit to get the job accomplished. This tool is not a standard tool that a handyman would normally use. The third day, in 6 hours, he finally installed the railing on the concrete wall with the new hammer drill. He cut and installed a window pane. And, he cut to size and installed 5 new panels of drywall in a new basement bathroom. Unfortunately, the member did not allow the technician to complete the job of mudding, taping and texturing the drywall. In addition, the technician did not take a break during all of this work which is against company policy. He went above and beyond to serve this customer. The member received a senior discount of $115 which should have been only $50 and another $15 each day for continuing the work two more days. I don’t know how much more we could have done to make this member happy enough to give us an “A” review. Grandma

The provider was extremely professional. He completed all the tasks I needed efficiently and cleaned up after himself. Safety was my biggest concern, and I believe his installations will provide that for me for as long as I live here.
Description of Work: Provider was a retired rocket scientist. He installed grab bars in the bathroom tub and wall, installed towel bars, hung a medicine cabinet in the bathroom.

We actually went and bought the tiles ourselves, but he measured, told us what we needed, and recommended a good place to buy it. We went and purchased that. Then he did all the installation. He brought in the different colors of caulk and grout, and we picked that. The project looks great. I think he was rushing at the end so he did not have to charge me another day. It got a little sloppy towards the very end, but we are still planning to call him back and bring him in to do other stuff. Honestly, I kind of wanted him to be done because he has been in my house for a couple of weeks, and I just wanted my bathroom back. When he washed the caulk off his hands, I had to get a tool to scrape off the caulk at the bottom of the sink. I am sure if I had said something, he would have cleaned it up. He was very nice and very professional. That was a messy job because of cutting the tile and all that so there were quite a bit of dust everywhere, but he did everything he could to keep that from going into the other parts of the house. I would give his cleaning like an 8 out of 10. He did wipe it out, but it was not spotless. I still had to go in and clean up everything. I think it is probably pretty common. He is not going to clean my bathroom.

Everything was great. I really like them. They're really like a smart husband that can do anything. If there's any other trouble they ran into, they always seem to be able to fix it. They were just great. They're the only people I would call if I needed someone, they're very professional. They come out, they're on time, polite, they wear shoe covers. I love them. They really train their people good. They ask you things so they know if they need to send someone with electrician ability or plumbing ability. They get a good list and they want to get a good fit for you.
Description of Work: Grandma's Handyman Service did about 4 hours of handyman work. The garbage disposal was stuck, we wound replacing it which was no problem. He hung up a lot of hangers. He helped me put an umbrella up on stand. He rigged my drawer so that it worked fine.

The provider did NOTHING! They called 45 minutes before the appointment to say they would not be able to make it. Very Unprofessional. We took the afternoon off for this! Then they say they cant schedule the service until 25 June. Any company who cant keep their promise on the first appointment is very unprofessional. This was my first experience on Angie's list and so far this is disappointing. If I wanted poor service and broken promises I could just use craigslist.

This is our first "F" since we started with Angie's List about 7 years ago! First of all, our technician took ill while on his morning job. There was nothing we could do about that. We called to reschedule as soon as we became aware of the situation and this member was unsympathetic and curt. Unfortunately, we could not reschedule sooner than June 25. The morning customer, who is also a member of Angie's List, and who's job was not completed, was extremely cooperative and kind. He rescheduled the job to be completed on June 25 instead. Secondly, there was no charge and no payment for services. Grandma

The gentleman from the company arrived promptly at 8am and got straight to work. He was efficient and thorough. The work was all done professionally and for a price that really can't be beat. I plan to hire them again in the near future to change out light fixtures throughout my main level and to do some drywall/plaster repair after I have my new patio door installed. Use this company. You will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: Repaired window screen, installed toilet paper holder, repaired three doorknob-through-wall holes (gotta love having kids), and repaired the wobbly, malfunctioning gate to the back yard.

Although provider said he had experience with sump pumps, he arrived with no light (working in deep hole under basement floor), no tools and no materials. He "borrowed" these from me. When he could not get the new pump to function, he asked me for wire and duct tape to secure the pump. He activated the pump manually and called the job done. After a couple of days, I could see the pump was not operating automatically. I did a little research and found that the float needed adjustment. I pulled the pump, made the adjustment, and it works fine now. (And I got rid of the wire and duct tape.) The good news is that I will know how to do the job myself in the future.

I was surprised to see this review as we have done several jobs for this member over the last two years. The technician that the member talks about has served the member twice before. After building a relationship over this time, I would have thought that the member would have called the office to let me know about his dissatisfaction. When the technician arrived, his intention was to check out the job to see what tools and equipment were needed. The member claims that the tech should have known that there would be no light in the crawl space. That is not a valid statement because I have a light in my crawl space and I am sure other homeowners do as well. Any tools that the tech “borrowed” were at the offer of the member. The technician carries a variety of tools in his truck. The problem with the sump pump was caused by the fact that the member purchased the wrong type for his configuration and the float kept hitting the side wall. The technician made some adjustments and the sump pump was working when he left. Later in the afternoon (the job was done earlier in the day from 12 to 1 pm), the member called the office to let me know that the pump was not working. I contacted the tech and he returned to the member’s home at 6:30 pm to re-adjust the pump because the float was hitting the side of the wall causing it not to work properly. As far as we knew, the pump was then operating correctly. We are very sorry to lose customers and we try very hard to give the best customer service possible. We stand behind our work and give a one-year warranty. However hardworking and conscientious we are, we cannot please everyone every time. Grandma
