Our experience with Alex/DSE Excavation was anything but pretty. We’d had a previous bad experience with the landscaper before him, and Alex was supposed to come in to fix and finish the work in a timely fashion. Let me first say that the man talks himself up and makes himself appear to be amazing. We thought we were making a good decision. The first week was great; he showed up, was getting to work, things seemed great. The second week he maybe showed up once. Then after that he showed up randomly here or there, for maybe an hour or two. We would contact him to see what was going on, and he’d come up with some excuse, and then throw a line about when he’d be back. It was like we had to babysit him in order to get any work done. At one point we essentially had to threaten to fire him in order to get him to come back out. We hadn’t seen or heard from him in 3 weeks, and we were frustrated. This did the trick and got him out to get some good work done. For one day. ONE DAY. As I’m writing this, he hasn’t been out in 4 weeks. My gates that he put up the last time he was out are already failing, one is uneven (that I had already brought to his attention and he said he’d be out to fix), and one part of my fence is uneven (he was also already aware of that because i sent him pictures). Oh and my fence is STILL not completed. I tried to get in contact with him tonight, and he couldn’t even remember which project I was, and now he’s upset because I’m obviously upset about the lack of work I’m receiving. He is now refusing to remove his trash from my property and he is threatening to place a lien on my house for money owed... no, there is no money owed (which I have proof of in text messages) and I know there is no legal way he can place a lien on my house, but seriously. He is a true piece of work. This man and his so called company should be avoided at all costs.

I needed to quickly move 17 tons of gravel & sand from the alley through a narrow gate and then in to where I'm building a sandstone patio. Alex used his Ditch Witch and did a perfect job--had to do some tricky maneuvering but never bumped the fence or any plants. We talked some, and it's clear he's extremely competent and can get all kinds of things done. Very fair price. You will not find a better person to work with.
