He has only come over a couple of times to talk about the basement. They are not actually going to do the work until the 3rd. We had some extensive flood damage in September that caused us to tear out all of our carpeting, paneling and drywall downstairs. Our service person, Cody, came over and did a test to make sure we did not have any water coming up through the concrete. He then came over and did a stain test. He has a couple of different water seals that we can use so we have been kind of talking back and forth about it. I called other companies that were on Angie's List and they were way more expensive and they were not going to do the stain or water sealant. So far I have really enjoyed working with Cody. He is one of these people who is real informative and who gives options. He does not just tell me this is how it is going to work and then goes on with it. He lets me think about the options for awhile before he contacts me again. He is not a pressure salesman at all; he does a really good job. I called him and he came out the next day to look at the job. The quoted price is $3,000. He is always on time and is very professional. Valiant Coatings & Contracting is our concrete company. I got a quote from them to sand, stain and clear coat with water seal my basement floor.

Met with Braden, who was very nice and polite, and he gave us a very competitive quote and told us the project would be finished in at most 2 days. The original quote only rose by $50 because we chose to use a no-VOC paint in the end. One painter was sent to the job who was also very nice, polite and worked really hard to finish all 3 rooms in one day. Unfortunately, due to the color that was already on the walls, our painter did have to come and do touch ups, but he did so happily. All three rooms look great and Valiant Painting was a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: Called Valiant Painting to paint three rooms in our new rental before we moved in.

We hired Valiant Painting 7/25/2012 to refinish the exterior portion only of our front entry door and side windows. This included a standard size door with clear stained widows and 2 side panels with clear stained windows. He explained it would be a 2-day process including a power wash, sanding, and two coats of stain. The outer coat was to be hi-gloss to match the existing color. The contract stated in three different areas that the finished color was to match the existing color. We then agreed on a price of $400.00 to have the work completed by them. Braden Barnes and his employee arrived at 8:15 A.M. on 8/2/2012, as agreed. He spent approximately ½ hour there discussing things with his employee and then he left. I told Braden I needed to run to the airport at 10:30 for about an hour. His man was gone from the house at 10:30 when I went outside to go to the airport. For how long I don?t know The man spent approximately 7 hours working; let us know he was done and called Braden. My husband and I were extremely disappointed to walk out and see a dark, streaked door and side panels. We noticed sanding particles still on the window details and light color areas with brush strokes going different directions throughout the door and transoms. The polished door handle, deadbolt and hinges were not removed only taped so stain was on them. There was sanding dust everywhere in the detail of the door in the stain. I could see the door had not been wiped down after sanding. It was also clear from the sanding marks on the door that only a course sand paper had been used. When I asked why they did not use a lighter color, I was told it would have looked worse. Braden was very short with us when we had questions about anything. He was full of nothing but very lame excuses and in a very curt way offered to not charge us. We said that was not what we were interested in. We just wanted our entrance area to look nice because we were turning our home over to a management company for tenants. I told him it looked as if I did the work myself and I do not have any idea how to do the process. He said the door was in bad shape to start with and we should have purchased a new door if that was what we were looking for. We agreed the door was in need of work and we were not expecting it to look as if it were new. We just wanted the same color and a professional job that we were told we would receive and did not. He said that the stain color would lighten up as it dried. It did not. He stated that he would come back the following morning to review the appearance. He never showed up. We sent him an email stating we thought he was coming over and at this point we were going to take him up on his offer and we were not going to be paying for the unprofessional job that was done and he could call to discuss the situation. He replied back that we did not have the right to be belligerent and he would not allow his employees to be embarrassed by us. He stated that he was not charging us and there was no reason for further discussions. When they were finished, they cleaned their equipment in the rocks bordering my front yard. Now there is a 4 square foot oil stained section in the rocks between the grass and driveway. We have contacted other companies to redo the job and found that we can no longer have the appearance of a light stained entrance we once had because of the dark stain used. We will now have to go to the "painted" process or replace the door and side transoms. Every person that has looked at it thinks it is a very bad job. Our home security cameras recorded everything that was done to the front door area from the time they arrived until they finished. It is also time and date stamped on the disc.
Description of Work: The company was contracted to strip, sand and stain the exterior portion only of the front door and transoms matching the existing color. They used a darker stain and performed a job that I felt was very unprofessional .

Response from Valiant Contractors, INC
As I said before, I am sorry your experience was not pleasant with our company, that is why I did not charge you a penny and offered to re-do the work if you would like. From the initial appointment I made an effort to be clear that the door was extremely neglected and would never look brand new again. I have to respectfully disagree with many of the things you have stated in this review, from my perspective they are lies. I won't go into the details here but as I have said before, if you would like to deal with the situation I am more than happy to do so. Again, please call me and speak to me if you would like to move forward.
