It went great. I had called several other companies, who never responded. Rocky Mountain was the only one who responded. They showed up on time and found that the previous person had shut off the gas. They noted that there was a carbon monoxide leak of 9 ppm. and recormmended a new furnace. They did not charge me for the visit but offered to provide me with an estimate. The furnace is over 20 years old so I figure it is time for a new furnace. They did a great job. I highly recommend Rocky Mountain.
Description of Work: They came by and checked the furnace. They advised me to get a new furnace. The current one is about 20 years old and was starting to leak Carbon Monoxide.

After getting seven attempted and six actual estimates I ended up going with Lou for a number of reasons. 1) He didn't try to oversell me, he asked me about what I wanted and quoted me on what I told him 2) He answered all my questions and actually taught me a lot about what I should be asking the other guys! 3) He was very nice and responsive, of everyone he was the only one who followed up and 4) honestly this was the last decision point but he was far less expensive than everyone else. Lou and I wrote down different times for the initial estimate, so since the person scheduled to come was on another call, he hopped in the car and came over himself. He hopped on the roof and got into the attic to check things out something pretty much no one else did. He called with questions about my preferences for the unit the next day and then sent the quote. He called with questions about my preferences for the unit the next day and then sent the quote. After having poor experiences and receiving a Very Broad range of estimates (they ranged from 3,000 to 10,000), lack of responses, and an unwillingness to answer my questions from others he honestly seemed too good to be true which is why I got so many quotes and why I checked the BBB and Angie?s list multiple times. Since everything checked out we decided to go for it and get it installed this spring (thank goodness!) Lou and his team did a great job, they arrived a little late due to an emergency but called the day before to let us know. They didn't have a ton of resources but were extremely resourceful. When it rained the first day they couldn't complete everything but they came back the next day to finish things up. Unfortunately they ran into some challenges with the electric that extended it another few days but they worked diligently to get it resolved, it passed inspection and the Air Conditioner has worked wonderful ever since (again, thank goodness). Although I can't say it was the most efficient process, I can say that they were extremely honest, helpful, happy to work around our schedules and that they really took pride in both their work and their customer service. It was exactly the type of business I was glad to support.

A neighbor called another plumbing company (who was filling in for their furnace guy) to fix the noise a neighbor and I both heard coming from the top of the furnace. That person replaced the lower (blower) motor. When I called to complain that the furnace again had a whining noise, he offered to replace the upper motor (which I asked him to do in the first place) at an unspecified discount.
Description of Work: At approximately 50% less than the price quoted by your most-reviewed heating contractor he replaced the inducer motor on my furnace. He was on time in the one-hour wndow he said. He was quick, efficient and nice to my dog.

The company was helpful and not out to make a dollar. They helped us figure out what was wrong right over the phone. We never would have known how to fix things without them.
Description of Work: We called when our heater stopped working. Rather than charging us a ton for a simple fix, Rocky Mtn Heat helped us check some things over the phone and walked us through figuring out that we only needed to replace the thermostat and not the furnace! We'll call them again, for sure.

We bought a foreclosed home in August 2011 that had many issues. One of those issues was a 25 year old furnace that no longer worked. We got five estimates (from Angie's List) to replace the furnace. Lou from Rocky Mountain Heat gave us the best price, plus expert advice on other issues around the house that we were concerned about. He showed up on time with a helper and they got the job done in just a few hours. They cleaned up after themselves, took the old furnace away, and were very professional the entire time.

The initial estimate visit won over other estimates based on profesionalism, answers to questions and concerns, and willingness to change. Louis White, owner, was the estimator and, once the work was contracted, his wife Sue was always available on the phone, friendly, and reacting with urgency to my many calls. The installer was not well equiped but was very resourcefull and very experienced. We had some initial leaks when the soldering fuel run out and the presure readings were not optimum (as in perfect). But Rocky Mountain did come back and re-loaded the systed, not reecycled but used new freon, and came back to check to make sure the system was good. Yes, I would recomend and use Rocky Mountain again.
Description of Work: Ous home had central heating but not central AC. Rocky Mountain installed a new Central AC system and we are satisfied. Our home has a second story with a single hot air-return which was found blocked with insulation between floors and the contractor helped get it cleared. We have been happy just having a central A/C but will need to fix our home (add or improve the house hot-air return) before next summer.

We needed to replace our furnace and air conditioning units, since both were at the end of their life cycle. Lou, from Rocky Mountain Heat, came to our home to gather the information he needed in order to write us up an estimate for the work we needed done. A reasonable estimate was submitted in a timely fashion by email within a day or two. Lou was very friendly, courteous, and seemed straight forward enough, however, we felt as though Lou's minimalist approach was not exactly what we were personally looking for. We decided to go with another contractor who we felt could offer us more efficient equipment and better rebate options.

The first appointment was set for June 28th. Jim was on time, was courteous, and seemed to know what he was doing. After about an hour he stated that he cleaned both the coils and the condenser, and that he tested the system and everything was in working order. There has been an issue of condensation dripping from the air conditioning pipes, and he stated that all they needed was for the insulation to be wrapped better, and he encircled much of the insulation on the pipes with duct tape. At the end of the service, as I was paying, he requested that I leave the "To" portion of the check blank, and that he would fill it out later. I was uncomfortable with that, and insisted I write in whom the check was to be made out to. He then said that he was a subcontractor, and to make the check out to JBM Mechanical, which I did. I thought this was strange, but since he was sent to me by Rocky Mountain Heat, I figured he was authorized to make such a request, and I wrote it as he requested. Over the next few days I noticed that the air conditioning was still struggling, that condensation was still dripping and becoming worse, some of the duct tape he placed over the pipe-insulation was already peeling off, and that ice was appearing on the pipe insulation. I called Rocky Mountain Heating again and requested another appointment, but with a different technician. A gentleman named James (I'm assuming it was a different gentleman than the first Jim) returned my call and set up an appointment for the morning of Saturday July 9th. On the morning of July 9th, just 5-minutes before James was supposed to arrive, he called me stating he was going to be about an hour late. About 85-minutes later he again called stating he was having vehicle problems and would have to cancel the appointment. I asked him if we could reschedule ASAP and he stated he would call me on Monday to reschedule. He never did. Late that Monday I called a different Heating & A/C business and scheduled an appointment for Wednesday July 13th. Upon arrival this technician, Mike, opened up my furnace and air conditioning units and showed me how filthy they were. The outside of the evaporative coils were iced up, and the inside of the evaporative coils were filthy (and certainly had not been cleaned by the previous technician). The blower was also filthy. The duct had been removed from the humidifier and not replaced. A portion of the panel had been cut off of the panel-door to the evaporative coils (in all fairness, I don't know if this had been done by Jim, but I do find it odd that he would not have noticed this or said anything about it. Once the furnace panel had been removed, it would be impossible to not notice the cut panel). Outside Mike showed me that the unit had been partially cleaned, but not fully. Furthermore, the caps had been left off of the gauges, which Mike stated could possibly lead to leaks. Mike informed me that the ice and condensation were likely caused by the build-up of dirt over the years, thus preventing proper air flow. Mike, from this other business, walked me through every detail, melted the ice with warm water, thoroughly cleaned every part of the coils, cleaned out the drain pipe, fixed the cut panel and cleaned up afterwards. In my personal experience and opinion, the technician that was sent to me by Rocky Mountain Heat was either incompetent, in a hurry, or simply didn't care. He charged me $120 but did not adequately address the issues he was called to my home for. When attempting to get Rocky Mountain Heat to return to my home to review these issues, I got the runaround. I would never use Rocky Mountain Heat again, and would warn others to not use them either. I had to call another business to get my AC properly serviced.

Response from ROCKY MOUNTAIN HEAT
This is an unfortunate incident. Jim Malch is no longer associated with Rocky Mountain Heat, LLC. What he did in this case is considered theft and the substandard workmanship is not acceptable. As for James, he did have vehicle issues on a Saturday, but failed to communicate properly and in a timely manner. James Maestas has been reprimanded, but is still a valuable asset to our team. We have contacted the member with our sincerest apologies. Much of this we were not aware of and have taken steps to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Called the Company on a Friday evening. They sent Jim to check our furnace the next Wednesday. They then gave us two different estimates. One for a complete furnace replacement and the second for ducting work. We decided to get jus the duct work done at this time. (We will use them to replace the furnace later.) They have always been timely, competent, friendly, and their prices are very reasonable.

Excellent, exactly as we had been told.
Description of Work: A great company!!! The owner, Lou White, was prompt to come to our house to give us an estimate for a new furnace. He explained all the options of choice and also showed us how the ducting from the old furnace could be repaired and in some cases replaced. He took time on this visit to point out additional areas that need to be sealed in order to have better efficiency. The next day he emailed us a proposal showing the two models we had discussed. By this time, we had already received 3 bids each with different manufacturers and companies. When we met Lou, we had a strong sense we wanted his company to do the work. The price was right for our needs and we received a bonus of an Aprilaire humidifier for free. In Colorado, having a humidifier efficiently running during the winter months is important. Right on schedule, Jim and Anthony arrived on the the date and time agreed. They quickly went to work disassembling the old furnace and began installing the new Rheem model we had decided to go with. A new Honeywell digital thermostat was installed and instructions for maintenance for the new furnace and humidifier were explained to us completely. They replaced some ducting, sealed other ducting seams and voila! we had a new furnace working more efficiently and quieter. A great ending to a worthwhile and needed project.

Our furnace stopped working during the wee hours of the night. At 8 a.m., I called Rocky Mountain Heat to ask whether they could send someone that day. It took awhile to hear back, about 9:30 a.m. The service technician, James, indicated he was waiting to hear whether he would be working on a big job that day and would get back to me. He was very nice and professional. Because it was cold in the house and James wasn't sure, I also contacted a second company and ended up using them. I would have been comfortable using Rocky Mountain Heat.

I called Rocky Mountain Heat and they called back very quickly. They set up an appointment with a one hour window. The service person arrived about 10 minutes after the start of the appointment window. He flushed air from the baseboard heating system and moved about the house to check to see that there were no noises remaining related to air in the lines in each zone. The time involved was approximately one hour. The estimate was that it would cost up to $100 and the actual cost was less than the maximum. The worker (Jim) was very friendly, courteous, and explained how the system could be flushed more quickly in the future. We would definitely use this firm again.

Although it was not an easy diagnosis, they got the manufacturer involved, and acted proactively as an advocate for the customer, even though it was not their original installation. They not only found that the unit was not wired properly, they were able to get the unit replaced under warranty. It is installed and working fine.

Appointment was originally set up for "between 2:00 and 3:00," James arrived about 4:50, but did call twice to say that he was running behind and ask if it was convenient to make it later. All work proceeded in a professional manner. Technicians were courteous and prompt. Jim worked straight through until 7 PM the final day to finish the job. I am very pleased with the results and highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: Air conditioner stopped cooling. Service technician, Jim, was able to come promptly. He tried various options. Diagnosis was compressor failure. I decided to replace the A/C and gas furnace with higher efficiency units. After reading reviews on the internet regarding various brands, I decided on Trane units. Owner Lou White came out and recommended a Trane XV95 2-stage furnace, 95.6% efficiency, 120k BTU, spark ignition, variable stage blower, plus a Trane 5-ton High Efficiency A/C. Work started the next day with removal of the old units, and installation of the new units the following day. The units were tested and placed on line.

The process of obtaining an estimate on a new furnace went very smoothly. It was expedient, easy and the price offered was a very reasonable one. In the end, we opted for installing a brand which Rocky Mountain did not work with.
Description of Work: I called Lou White and asked for a free estimate on a new furnace and humidifier for my home. He responded quickly and sent someone out within 48 hours. He also answered all my questions on the phone, to my satisfaction. The estimator was punctual, professional and knowledgeable. His bid was very competitive. The only reason we did not hire Rocky Mountain Heat was because we decided to go with a different brand than the one he installs. I would definitely recommend this company.

I was very pleased with the service, responsive, professional and thorough. The installers were happy to answer my questions, some of which I asked during the installation. Once the job was complete, one of the installers, Anthony stayed an extra 30 minutes to make certain I understood all the important parts of the new furnace. In addition to being the lowest bid for the job by several hundred dollars, the furnace was a well thought of Rheem brand.
Description of Work: I called three companies for a quote on replacing a 30 year old furnace with a 95% efficient one. All companies were taken from Angies List. Two of the companies responded quickly, the third did not respond. Both respondents were professional, and answered all my questions, some of which I asked over several days as I researched the furnaces and other accessories, such as electronic filters and humidifiers. I was impressed with the responses I got, particularly because instead of "upselling" me, they gave me straight info so I could decide which choices were best. Rocky Mountain Heat, when I pressed advised me against some accessories as un necessary. Once I made the decision to have them do the installation, they were here in two days to complete the installation. The installers were knowledgible and professional.

Our furnace wouldn't start up on Monday morning and we called for service around 8:15am. Sue told me that their service guy, Jim, would come around 1:00 to 2:00pm.
