Frank arrived as scheduled and immediately informed us that replacing all the bathroom outlets was not necessary as one GFCI covers the others. He then proceeded to show us how that works but did replace the one GFCI outlet we had that was 29 years old as a precaution and since I had a brand new one onhand. Frank also replaced all three of our outdated hardwired smoke detectors and noted that when we swap out the back up batteries next year that we must use identical batteries and not differing brands. Since he was here my wife also asked him to replace an old bathroom ceiling light which he did. Frank was prompt, efficent and very personable and I was very glad to get these projects off my "honey do" list at a very reasonable price using a Groupon.
Description of Work: We were in need of replacing some old hard wired (ionization) smoke detectors with the newer and recommended (photoelectric) smoke detectors along with some GFCI oulets.

I was able to reach Mountain Tech Electric easily on his cell phone, he rescheduled the project twice before actually coming to do the work. When asked for an estimate, he stated that he really could not provide one since he did not know how the project would go once he arrived. The project was a simple replacement of two existing light fixtures with good quality replacements that I provided, no heights, no additional wiring or parts, etc. He was here about an hour and 45 min. He charged $255 minus the coupon from Angie's List. Thus, while the two lights were replaced, I was not pleased with his demonstrated professionalisn or his cost -seems unnecessarily high for the simple replacement of two light fixtures. I will not use again or recommend his business to others. I do not feel that the Angie's List recommendation worked for me this time.

Very nice man... but was here less than 3 hours (but charged for 3 hours) and talked a lot during his visit. Seemed to want to tell us everything he knew about the possible reasons and what he was doing. Felt like he could have done the job in half the time and therefore been a lot less expensive.

I recently bought a house. Someone who was clearly not a professional electrician had installed an outlet under the sink for a garbage disposal, wiring it to an exposed segment of extension cord. Frank removed the bizarre wiring, moved the outlet to a more reasonable place, put in romex with a cable sheath, and replaced the disposal's non-grounded cable with a grounded one. While he was there I asked him to fix a bunch of minor things, all of which he fixed quickly and efficiently. He did the work in a professional manner and I was very pleased with the results. He gave me an Angie's List discount, too.

My stove would not heat up. Service was excellent. it took about 15 minutes to figure out and fix the electric wiring to my stove. (The 220 in the wall was wired backwards power to ground!) He also checked my circuit box, to make sure that that was safely wired. Very nice, very professional and has a good sense of humor when it comes to contractor goofs like the one I had here. The actual repair took him less than 5 minutes, and he was worth every penny. Thank goodness for the coupon!!! Yes I would highly recommend these folks, with or without a coupon!!!

Cost of services was double what I'd been quoted by an electrician without the "deal." Also, he was difficult to schedule with?he wouldn't suggest any dates or times, then balked at the ones I suggested. So I canceled the deal. Glad Angie's List has strong customer service and refunded me right away.

I would definitely use this gentleman again. He arrived late but it was the end of a long workday for him. Despite being obviously tired, he worked very diligently on replacing two front porch lights, one of which was missing a knob which he managed to replace with some ingenuity. He could not find the doorbell source but did spend quite a bit of time looking for it. He also gave me a quote on removing an electrical source on an outdoor fence.
Description of Work: I asked a him to replace two porch lights and repair a doorbell. One of the lights must have been a return and was missing a finished knob. He asked if he could use one off my old light which meant he had to cut it down to make it fit. He did and it worked just fine. He could not find the doorbell source to replace it but charged me for the house hunt to find it. Initially, I think he forgot my appointment. After I called he did arrive. Very nice man, very professional and I plan to use him again soon.

An inspection of this home prior to sale revealed that the conduit feeding into the electric meter had pulled down 1/2 inch exposing the wires and the force was also pulling the electric meter box away from the building. Needing to get it repaired prior to closing, I called Frank, left a message and he returned my call promptly! This was the Thursday afternoon before a holiday weekend... Frank went to the home that afternoon, assessed the problem and gave me an estimate (describing for me in detail what the problem was and what type of repair was necessary) and said that he could have it completed by our short (especially given the holiday weekend) deadline . He followed up our discussion with a written proposal. Based on his estimate, availability and personality, Frank was chosen over another contractor and was asked to go ahead and complete the work. As promised, he completed the job prior to our deadline, even doing the work on the holiday and no extra charge, with the final bill the same as the estimated amount (which was well less than the other bid). I am very happy with Franks service and professionalism - not to mention that he is a very nice guy who seems very honest and trustworthy. I will definitely be using him again!!!
Description of Work: Disassembled the underground service feeder and electrical meter box and installed a slip joint PVC with an adapter to existing 2" PVC underground feeder raceway. This was to repair a conduit that had slipped 1/2 inch below the electrical meter box exposing wires and to repair the meter/box that was pulling away from the building.

Four wires were accidentally cut while installing a wall pet door. We had already shut off what we thought was the only necessary circuit breaker but when the wires were cut we clearly had cut through some other live wires. We were unable to determine at the breaker box which wires were cut. We could smell an electral burning odor that would not seem to dissipate and we were very concerned for our safety. It was 8:00 PM at night and I first called WIRE NUT since they had previously done work in our home and I knew they offered 24-hour service (although we did not use that service). I called them while my partner searched Angie's List. I Iwas absolutely STUNNED when WIRE NUT SAID the after hours service call alone would be $800. You read that right, $800! I said "If you don't want to provide services after hours then why offer it?" I was livid. We searched Angie's List and wanted to find someone reccommended who was close by. Frank/Mountain Tech Electric had very good reviews and was close by in Arvada. When I called Frank had just returned from a family function and was more than happy to come by and take a look and to, as he put it, "make it safe", which was our biggest concern at the time. He tried to offer explanations of what happened and possible solutions while I was on the phone with him, but he was soon on his way over. HIS AFTER HOURS CHARGE was only $85 - a small price to pay to feel safe. He arrived as quickly as he could and assesed the situation. He was very professional and explained everything to us as best as he could determine but said that he would have to come back to do the repair work. We liked him so much we were willing to wait a day for his return (it was Wed night and he would return Friday afternoon). He turned off what he thought was the approrpiate circuit, tested all exposed wires to ensure they were not energized and assured us all was safe. When he returned on Friday (he called to let us know he was on his way) he was able to determine the problem and the appropriate affected circuit - the breaker appeared like it was not tripped when in fact it was (a problem with both panels installed in our home - which he also explained to us in detail). He explained, again in detail, what he would do to make the repairs. He was here a little over 2 hours but only charged us for two. At the time - we both forgot about the discount he offered via Angie's List. I actually completely forgot but Frank called us a couple days later after he was going through his paperwork, to tell us he owed US money for the discount, and actually came by IN PERSON to give us our refund! He was very professional, explained things in detail so that we could understand, answered all our questions, made us feel safe and his work looked professional, clean and safe. We will not only use Frank's services again when needed but will, and HAVE, highly recommended him to others. I also want to mention that if we did not need to call Frank out after hours the total charges for the work would be less $85. Thanks Frank! Cindi & Jana

When I called, I really didn't expect anyone to be able to come out that evening. I was thrilled when he came out a short time later. Even more thrilled he could fix it then. He came back to replace the circuit breaker switch since I have a single switch/not a double switch. He was very professional and knowledgable (even thoough I didn't necessarily know what he was talking about). I woke up in the middle of the night and heard the furnace switch on. I knew it was a successful visit at that point.
Description of Work: The circuit breaker going to my furnace would periodically switch into the trip position. There were a few instances over the last year where it would do it. I could always get it to work again by flipping the circuit breaker off, then back on. On a cold day, I couldn't get it to work again. Frank came out that evening and took a look. The wire had bubbled and needed to be fixed. He fixed this immediately so the circuit breaker would stay in the on position. He had to get a circuit breaker that would fit and came back to install this.

SEE ABOVE -- I LISTED EVERYTHING IN THE ABOVE STATEMENT.
Description of Work: After figuring out the the other electrician wasn't going to respond to my calls, I called Mr. Hoelsken from Mountain Tech Electric. He(Frank) returned my call within a couple of hours. He said he had some time at the end of his day & could come right over to check things out, this was right before 4pm. Of course we said that was fine, so I met him at my mom's house, just after 4. He looked at & checked all affected recepticles & light switches, including in the attic. Opening & unscrewing each wall cover, inspecting the wires & connections. After not coming up with a definitive cause for the problem to be able to fix, he said he would have to leave & return in the morning. It was then after 5:30pm. Today, July 27th, he showed up promptly at the agreed time, 8:30am. Mr Hoelsken reviewed the issues with the outlets & swithes, his rechecks came up with a probable cause. This required moving the entertainment center, which had many years of memories piled on top of it. Mr. Hoelsken not only helped clear off the cabinet, but did all the moving of it, also. Sure enough, that is where the problem was. He showed us the 'toasted' wire, & explained to us how this was the cause, as he did the necessary repairs. He left at about 10am, with everything working properly. There was no mess left & everything was put back to where it was when he started. The whole time & process of finding the cause of our problem, he explained the possibilities & told us what he was doing & why he was doing the things he did. He was(is) a very nice man, professional, & very knowledgable. I was most impressed by his efforts to explain his way through this very challenging job. There was absolutely no rude tone to our ignorance of the situation. He just tried to explain the best he could, to, I'm sure, puzzled faces. My mom keeps saying that she was so glad he was the one who came to do the repairs. She was very impressed with him & appreciated the help with her house. He dressed nice & professionally, spoke well, was courteous, & polite. He tended to his business doing a thorough job.

Description of Work: We had trouble with the electrical supply to our laundry room. My husband even had sparks fly at him while he tried to flip the breaker. We called Mountain Tech and they sent out Frank H. He checked the wires for a ground fault. He found one wire was bare and burnt, so he replaced that. He checked GFI plugs and made sure that those were functional. He spent about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes total.

I had my kitchen updated, and two electrical projects became necessary: the switch controlling the garbage disposal stopped working, and two days before the new microwave was to be installed I discovered there was no electical outlet available for it. I called Mountain Tech Electric - based on Angie's List reviews - and Frank (Hoelsken) returned my message very promptly. He arranged his schedule so he could come out the next day. He arrived when he said he would, assessed what needed to be done, and got it completed in plenty of time to accommodate the microwave installation. The work was done correctly, and Frank was very good about explaining his diagnoses, and keeping me informed as he progressed. And he took extra pains to make sure the new outlet and the replaced switch, as well as the hole left by someone else's prior work, was finished neatly and correctly - both functionally and cosmetically. I was both relieved and impressed. About two months later I lost electricity to several overhead lights as well as the outlet in the garage ceiling for the garage-door opener. Because there was some safety concern, Frank came out the same day I called, and even though I was unable to be there, he was able (and willing) to come in on his own and fix the problem. problems solved
Description of Work: - Replace a non-functioning switch, and update an adjacent outlet - Install a new outlet on the wall inside the cabinet above the stove area, to accommodate a new microwave (the original microwave was a part of the stove, so hadn't needed an outlet) - Diagnose the problem and repair the wiring in my house that controlled the overhead lights in my dining room, kitchen, and the outlet in the garage that accommodates the garage-door opener (all of the above had stopped working the day I had a new roof installed)

Frank worked with Lynn Schwankle (Doc's Handyman Service) to install two bath & light fans in two separate bathrooms. The job entailed running wire from existing switches through plaster walls into an attic crawl space (a two-man job) during the warm summer months. Frank came into the job when Lynn realized an experienced electrician was required; Frank and Lynn worked well together. The job started early in the morning and was completed in late afternoon.
Description of Work: Electrical wire run from existing switch plate, through plaster walls to attic crawl space for installation of two separate bath fan/light units.
