Tom Allen of Harry Yeti did a great job. There were a lot of problems dealing with the older house but with Tom’s help we got through the whole project and have a beautiful kitchen to show for it. I apologize for not reviewing it much sooner.

I think he did a great job. If we do decide to do that we will go with him. We can’t do it right now because we need the money. We definitely would have gone with him, we had 3 estimates. I think the price was very reasonable. If I had the money I would have gone with it. I think it was a reasonable estimate for what we are trying to accomplish. One of the cost would have been once he dug out that window, he would have had to remove the dirt. That is one of the solutions that he had that he would just be able to leave the dirt here. Once they excavated that window we could put it here, make a mound, plant stuff on it. He wouldn’t have to dispose of it so that would help us to save a little money. I appreciated that.
Description of Work: I had an estimate from Hairy Yeti. He was going to do an Egress window for us.

Tom is very responsive to changes, questions, and corrections. Pricing was as-you-go for this project so I could accept or reject each step along the way and adjust things to fit my budget. That made predicting the cost of the entire project at the start difficult, but did give me more control over the details as the project progressed. His team had some tricky scheduling issues to work around, both because this was a rental property and the tenants were not always available when work needed to be done, and because there were serious delays getting the flooring installed by a second contractor. Tom and his team handled those scheduling hiccups as well as could be expected under the circumstances. There was a personal incident with one of the workmen that made my all-female tenants uncomfortable, but when I brought it up to Tom he made sure that worker did not return to do any additional work on the property.
Description of Work: Update basement bedroom, closets, & utility/laundry, including drywall, paint, trim, and door work and replacing one window. Bring whole house electrical up to code.

Tom's team did a great job on our new deck. It was a bit challenging as we had a rubber liner over the old deck to keep water out of the garage and we insisted that the back steps already in place be used. The steps needed extra attention but looked good when they were completed. We are so pleased with how this job turned out that we are having them back in the spring to do the stairs and deck to the front door.
Description of Work: A new Trex deck was installed over the garage roof and included the decking, rails, the stairs to the back yard, and fascia.

Tom came out and listened to what we wanted and provided drawings and a quote in a timely manner. The final product was exactly what we asked for and very well constructed. At the last minute we asked him also to install a new exterior door. The new door looks great with our new deck!

Tom directed us to a deck materials supply company to help focus our ideas. He closely adapted my design, modifying it to meet county approval. The new structure is excellent in appearance. The grounds were cleaned up well after the job was finished. The job was also convenient for him to do, being only one street away from his home office. Tom has done other excellent construction and remodeling work in our neighborhood and is continuing a good reputation here.

Since we are new to the area, we did not know any contractors and chose Hairy Yeti Construction from Angie's List. Their high rating is well deserved. Their bid was fair and the work performed timely. Owner Tom Allen and his crew, were responsive, knowledgeable, and very easy to work with. I definitely recommend them. P Merrill

Description of Work: Tom came out to look at the project. sent a roofer to get his input. NEVER sent the estimate. I called him two weeks later to see where the estimate was he said he would have it to me before the end of the following week. this is week two after that.....no estimate. Tom should have said--I don't want to do the work - so I could have just disregarded his company and found another company. He gets an F for customer service period. Does Angies list mean anything to Hairy Yeti?

We cannot write enough good things about Tom and Hairy Yeti Construction!!! We have had significant work on our house done by multiple providers and Hairy Yeti is by far the best company we have worked with. Tom's crew was professional, thorough, polite, trustworthy, detail-oriented, and talented. Tom came to inspect all work and ensured that everything done was top notch. We will absolutely hire Hairy Yeti for any future projects.
Description of Work: Tom and his crew completed work on two porches (pouring concrete columns for support and replacing support columns), repairing siding, and installing flashing.

We highly recommend Tom with Hairy Yeti Construction. With our upcoming remodel started in March of 2013, we did extensive research and had multiple contractors come to the house to give us an estimate. One of our limitations that most of the other contractors were unable or unwilling to entertain was the fact that we wanted to be active participants in our remodel. Understandably, most are uncomfortable with this – not knowing the skill level or abilities of the homeowner. Tom agreed to our request with the understanding that if he felt certain portions of the remodel needed to be completed solely by him and his team, or he felt the quality was suffering, he would make this clear. WE remodeled our kitchen and adjoining room and bathroom. Our remodel of our 1972 built home consisted of reframing load=bearing walls to open the space, leveling floors, plumbing, lighting, electric, insulation, drywall, and tile flooring. Each of the members of Tom’s team that came to our home was respectful, knowledgeable, and left a clean space each day they left (much appreciated since we were still living in the home). Tom himself was honest, straightforward, focused on customer service and satisfaction, and is clearly knowledgeable in this trade. Tom communicated quickly when plans had to change due to unexpected issues and worked closely with us to find an acceptable solution. He also became a favorite of our two black labs and was tolerant of their need to actively participate in the process! There have been no issues, almost a year later, with any of the work completed by Tom and his team. We are happy with the quality service we have received and enjoy the end product that much more as we were able to be an active part of the remodel.

I suspected I had damage to my roof after a recent hail storm. I didn’t know who to call so I contacted Tom of Hairy Yeti Construction, (since it was his company that originally built my home), and I thought maybe he could recommend someone. Well to my surprise, Hairy Yeti does roofing too! Is there anything these guys can’t do?? Dave and Tom showed up the next day, they confirmed that my roof was damaged and helped me take the next steps in filing for an insurance claim. After receiving the insurance adjuster’s report I contacted Hairy Yeti again. Dave came over and helped me through the complete process of getting my roof replaced. After pointing out several mistakes and missed items on the initial insurance estimate, he was instrumental in communicating with the insurance company to get all those items and mistakes - included and corrected. I was completely happy with the crew’s professionalism and was totally amazed that the crew was finished in just two days! They left my roof and yard spotless…even cleaned out my gutters! I would have never even know they were there, except for the constant banging on my roof!! Price of progress, I suppose… I would absolutely recommend Hairy Yeti in anything involving construction…including the roof.

Tom Allen and his crew came in after the foundation was set, and had to deal with an uneven foundation, and made a level floor and walls out of a bad foundation. The roof was complicated with an overlay of the existing roof, and Tom made sure all of the steps taken met the engineers expectation and ours, even when a roof line did not look right, Tom rebuilt the roof line so as to drain more efficiently. Tom has spent allot of time to make sure all of the subs and his crew built to the expectation of the customer. The end result is an addition that did not look like and addition.
Description of Work: added an addition to the back of an old 1955 built house, a very complicated ty-in to maintain the same floor level, and look.

The above listing of work does not come even close to adequately describing the work that Tom Allen of Hairy Yeti Construction performed while working on the remodel of our kitchen. Tom was meticulous, dependable, trustworthy, honest, good communicator ... and affable even in trying circumstances. He demanded excellence from himself, never accepting anything less (redoing work more than once at no additional cost), and was always able to come up with great solutions to the problems and challenges presented by our older house. He started by helping with final design selection of the cabinets (from Home Depot -- and we rightly chose to get our own installer rather than depend on HD to provide). In this process, he gave us a couple of tips on the design that really helped out and gave our kitchen a custom design look/feel. Plus, his knowledge of remodeling and kitchen cabinets was crucial in getting our parts order right with Home Depot. With the demolition, we knew there would be problems due to age of house. Tom carefully worked through all of those issues as we redid electrical wiring and new lighting for the kitchen (can lights in ceiling, undercounter lights for cabinets, etc.). He was meticulous in assuring walls were built back to square with durawall, plaster and feathering in preparation for new cabinets. Once installed, he received compliments from the countertop installer regarding leveling across all lower cabinets. And during installation of the upper cabinets, he identified cabinet production flaws that we took back to HD to remedy. (I doubt a HD installer would have spotted, or would have tried to finagle if pointed out.) He interfaced his work with other contractors easily (including electrical, marble countertop, tile backsplash, wood floor refinishing, etc.), almost acting as a general contractor in terms of coordinating work flow and scheduling. During all this work, there were several difficult situations that arose which Tom handled with upmost professionalism. His knowledge of the building crafts and associated trades came into play repeatedly. He did plumbing, electrical work, rough-in carpentry, detailed finish work. He made numerous trips into the attic, crawled into cramped spaces under sinks, figured out the many puzzles presented by our house. Lastly, because of the care of his workmanship and his work ethic, we had Tom work on other projects around our house -- crown molding installed the master bedroom, new utility sink installed in basement, new bathroom sink and countertop. Tom was also patient with me as I occasionally helped with some of the grunt work. He's a capable teacher as well, sharing tips on painting, drywall work, plumbing, etc. Although my efforts to "lend a hand" may not have saved a lot of money, it did keep me aware of all the work, toil, effort and thought that Tom was putting into this project. The outcome? Superb! We have a beautiful new kitchen, thanks to Tom's detailed craftsmanship. I recommend him with absolutely no reservations.
Description of Work: Main person working on remodel of our kitchen in an older house. Entailed ripping out old cabinets and counters, ripping out old flooring, chiseling out channels in exposed brick for updated electrical wiring, installing water line from basement to kitchen for icemaker in new refrigerator, bringing finished wall surfaces to proper level for cabinets and tile backsplash, installing new cabinetry along with plumbing work and exhaust venting for new over-the-range microwave oven.

I hired Tom Allen of Hairy Yeti Construction to design and build my custom home in Arvada. I saw several homes that he had built in Breckenridge and I wanted a log accented home of my own. Since this was my first endeavor on such a monumental project, I relied on Tom's expertise to help me with the many decisions that had to be made. From start to finish he was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He kept my project on budget and I was totally satisfied with his and his crews' workmanship. I've had many compliments on my home and am proud to "show it off". I have and will recommend Hairy Yeti Construction again and again.

everything went as planned. i did all the initial work on the plans with home depot and tom went down and fine tuned everything for me with them. i had a date to be finished by for thanksgiving and he did it. tom worked weekends and evenings to my surprise. here it is a year later and the kitchen still looks brand new with no problems to be found. i have recommended tom to other friends with the same results from them. i am looking forward to more improvements to my house as a new deck on the rear porch and even a third car garage and will be calling tom in the near future

It went really well. When I first saw this town home after my tenants moved out, I was so discouraged because of the filth, the mess and the damage. This contractor went in and took care of absolutely everything that was needed from clean-up to minor repairs to major work. The town home looked like new when he was finished and the quality of his work was perfect.
Description of Work: Updated and prepared town home for new tenant which included the following: Repair and paint interior walls, remove and replace old kitchen counter tops with tile counter tops, replace bathroom and kitchen floors with linoleum, replace carpet throughout entire unit. Also, general clean-up and minor repairs throughout the unit as needed. Note, this town home was in complete disarray and this contractor took care of everything that was needed!
