Deck Tune Up & Construction

We are very pleased with how our deck turned out. The work was done very professionally with great attention to detail. Peter worked with us every step of the way and completed the work at a very fair price.

I first found Pete in the Quality Connections circular in Arvada, CO. I did a review last year but I can't find it so I am starting over. My daughter and her NEW Husband were on their honeymoon last July, I called Pete hoping I could surprise them by having their deck sanded and stained, it was kind of a mess and it is a BIG deck. He was on another job close by the house and came over to give me an estimate. He called me later that day, after we met because he had a delay in materials at the current job he was doing, and said I can squeeze you in tomorrow if that will work! I jumped at the chance!!!!! He did an excellent job and the kids were so happy! Almost a year later I called him again, to touch up the deck you know clean, re-stain, whatever it might need. Again, I think because I am a repeat customer I think he wanted to make sure we were taken care of. He is the nicest guy and again did a GREAT JOB!!! The deck looks BRAND NEW!!! Thank you Pete!

Pete was great! I had called and did not get a call back for a couple of weeks, I had decided to do it myself, when I got a message from Pete. He was very apologetic, he was at a loss as to why he had not heard my voice mail before the morning he called. Anyway, he came over that morning and gave me an estimate. I had told him that my daughter was on her honeymoon and I wanted to surprise her, so if he could not do it right away I was going to. He did it the next DAY for me!!! He was so friendly and fun, I was very excited to have everything beautiful for the newlyweds when they came home!! So much fun. Again, Pete was great!! The work was GREAT!

I liked their work and the quality of their work as well. I will use their services again in the future.

Would never consider having this contractor do work for us because of lack of professionalism in not completing the quote.

Peter is a very personable individual and we liked him a lot. Generally we ended up mostly happy with the work but we had to very closely oversee the work. There were a number of things that were not acceptable that we had to bring to his attention. To his credit, once we brought it to his attention he was pleasant about make the corrections. We just felt that as a quality professional he would have done these on his own. I have not had the best luck with contractors so I have tried to do a good job of setting expectations to make sure everyone is happy when the job is done. After Peter came out to give me a quote I decided to go with him, his quote was no descript and did not include all the details we had talked about. I took the time to draw up a "Statement of Work" which outlined all the details of the job that we discussed. I asked him for three references and submitted the Statement of Work. It took several calls to get his references. When I asked about whether he agreed with the Statement of Work I sent he became somewhat agitated and said he had not had time to look at it and did not know why I felt the need to send the Statement of Work in addition to his quote. I explained that his quote did not have all the details that we had discussed and this was my way of making sure everyone was happy at the end. He said he would have his girlfriend read it to him and he would get back to me. I called him the next day and he said it was no problem. In the end I don't feel like he paid any attention to what I wrote in the Statement of Work. Here are the problems I had with the job (all of which were addressed in the SOW): 1) SOW - All deck screws will be tightenedand counter sunk. I never saw him tighten any screws and a great deal of the screw have been sanded and are exposed now. I asked him about this and he said the way he counter sunk/tightened the screws was to use a 20lbs hammer to drive them down. He stated that screws this old would only break if he tried to tighten them. 2) SOW - Deck abd stairs will be sanded to remove previous finishes. We had to asked him to go back and resand and refinish a number of section because they were either not completely sanded or the finish was not completely removed. 3) SOW - Replace top handrails on the back deck. This he did, however while mounting one of the new 15' handrails I walked back and saw that he was installed a handrail with a large chunck out of the rail, he said the router had done it and that he was going to sand it to make it look better. I insisted that he replace the rail. 4) SOW - All decks finishes will provide UV and moisture protection up tp three years with a color of our choice. We had no choice in the color. He had an open 5 gallon can of stain which I assumed he had used elsewhere and he used that. We had no choice in the color whatsoever. 5) SOW - Replace 4 16' deck planks on the back deck. One of the planks was cut. He claimed that the span was more than 16; foot but after I measured it I found it wasn't. I assume he mis-cut this plank and pieced it together, 6) SOW - contractor will be responsible for cleaning up and remediation of deck finishes that get on surfaces other than the deck and it's components. Generally he was somewhat carefull in this area. However he have a hot tub and there is stain on the hot tub cover and over various parts of the landscaping. I woul say I am most confused by this area most of all. Around the house he was super carefull not to get stain on the house paint but I have stain all over my rocks, concrete slab for the hottub and the river rocks around the tub. My overall impression was that he was most interested in getting to jobe done as quickly as possible. I believe he did not give any attention to my Statement of Work which was specifically to outline the work that was to be done. He was pleasant when I cornered him on specific issues and would take corrective action but I felt I had to stand over him at all times. Based on the shortcuts I caught and things he did not do until I caught them I am not sure I would have ended up with a satisfactory job.

He did it a terrific job. He appeared on time and finished the job in two days. The areas he worked on look great and are well-protected from the elements. The products used are standard and can be easily replaced when the time comes to re-finish the deck again.

They did the work surprisingly quickly and they were nice and trustworthy. I would use them again.

Pete is very easy to work with. It was back breaking work and Pete did an excellent job. But more importantly, the original work had only been partially permitted through the city. Pete was a great help in working with the city to get everything straighten out.

We got just what we wanted!

We talked about the car-port project, it was close enough to building a deck that he said he'd take it on. It came out exactly as planned and it was a difficult job because it was an addition to an old stone shed that we wanted to keep the lines and appearance of. The extension car-port matched the old stone shed's lines and looks using post and beam methods so it was really like building a deck upside down. We're happy and many neighbors have commented on how nice it looks and how well in keeping with the historic stone shed it is.

It was average. The work was just kind of sloppy.

Excellent, they have a lot of good communication and exchange of ideas. The pricing for the whole project was the most reasonable.

Wonderful! Pete did everything as originally discussed and stayed within budget and schedule. I'm very happy and would recommend him to anyone. I did send him to my brother to do new decks for him.

I AM VERY PLEASED WITH THE WORK THAT WAS DONE. I THOUGHT IT WOULD TAKE 2 WEEKS OR SO TO GET THE WORK DONE & IT ONLY TOOK 3 DAYS WITH VERY LITTLE INTERRUPTION OR INCONVENIENCE TO MY LIFE.
