Dan was very prompt for quote gave breakdown of services to be provided and provided a written quote. Calls were returned in a timely manner. The two employees showed up promptly at 0645 and worked until finished prepping the area being very meticulous. Due to rain cement was laid three days later once again employees showed up promptly and did an excellent job. The area was left clean and the workers put the lattice fence back up to keep dogs from walking on wet cement. I was very pleased with Dan's service and would definitely use again.

We called and Dan answered immediately. He was kind enough to come over that day to give us a bid but because he was our first, we went thru the process of getting 4 bids. His price came in 3x more than what we ended up going with but, in his defense, this was a small 90 sq ft job that most contractors don't want to be bothered with (two didn't even have the courtesy to call us back). Dan couldn't have been more prompt or professional and we would consider him again if we had a bigger job to make it worth his while.

This was an enormous job. Two hundred and twenty one tons of cement were taken out and then replaced. It was an expensive undertaking. We interviewed 5 contractors and Dan's price was a little higher than Some, but he worked with us to settle on a fair price that included issues we were concerned about. For example, replacement/repair of irrigation pipes that was bound to happen since they were located very close to the edge of the driveway. Dan also offered to repair some pavers leading to the front door at his own expense just to make the end result of the job look perfect. Everyone on the job, was professional and communicated well. I was almost in shock as gigantic machines moved in on our driveway to break up cement and truck it away. But everything went smoothly and on schedule. I would highly recommend Dan and the men that work with him. This job could have been a nightmare, but instead it came together beautifully. We love our perfect new driveway with the diamond design at the entrance(Dan's idea). Thanks, Dan and Jim.

I was very pleased with how this project went and couldn't believe the amount of coordination involved. They started on a Monday morning, right on time, and began the demo. The demo took longer than they thought I think and they needed a second bin to haul away all the old concrete. The first day they removed my old patio and about 1/2 of the old concrete. Tuesday they finished the demo and started the grading of the dirt to make sure water would flow appropriately. They also framed the 2 porches and started installing all the rebar. Wednesday they poured the porches and finished the rebar. They used a pump so it was nice and easy. After they had it poured and smoothed out, they put the Top Cast product on so that we could have a sandwash finish that Dan recommended. Thursday they came out and power washed the steps to fully achieve the sandwash finish. Friday they came out and poured slab. We wanted the diamond pattern and I'm glad we did this. They came back on Saturday to power wash the concrete and clean up. During this whole time, little items here and there would come up that I hadn't thought about such as relocating some plumbing. They did this for me at no extra cost! Our new patio looks really great and I'm glad we chose concrete over pavers. Thank you, Dan, and to your entire team!

The cement work is pretty good, although not perfect. The brick work ended up looking okay after having to tear out and re-do again certain parts on different area. We got two bids and they were the lower of the two so I think they were reasonable considering the scope of the work for pricing.

It was good. They did everything like they were supposed to. The cost was reasonable enough. They were responsive.

They were good! The job took 2 days. I would absolutely hire them again.

This was the second time I used Dan and he was great. The only thing is I caught one of his guys peeing in a bucket in the backyard which is kind of disgusting. I told Dan they could ask to use our bathroom and he took care of it. Anyway, His guys dug trenches, laid 4 inch pipe, installed drain basins, poured a really nice walkway with built in drains connected to the main drainage. I'll have him out for a bid again and will probably use him because he's an honest guy with pretty good prices.

The crew arrived on the day and time they said they would. Dan, the owner, couldn't have been better to work with. His motto is "we're not done until you're happy." Miguel, the foreman, was a perfectionist and extremely cooperative and helpful. His crew worked hard and were diligent, not sloughing off. At the end of each day total cleanup took place. The work done was done with perfection, making sure everything was done perfectly. After building the forms for the stairs according to the blueprint design I didn't like what I saw so I called Dan and told him. It was the design that was the problem not the work being done. Dan called the foreman to let him know. The next morning the foreman was aware of the issue, asked how I wanted it re-designed and he followed through precisely with the new layout. The whole team was a joy to work with and they did the extra things for me that I was planning on doing personally at no extra cost. If you're looking to have work done, don't go anywhere else if you're looking for honesty, professionalism, perfection, friendliness, cooperative spirit, and diligence. I was pleased with the cost of the services provided.

He never returned my e-mail inquiry. I hired another Angies List contractor who returned my e-mail the same day.

Dan was a pleasure to work with. He was very patient and responsive. We ended up having to change our plans the day before they were going to pour the cement and he was so flexible and understanding -- it made all the difference in such a stressful time, not too mention I was just about to give birth to my first son. We were also having A/C put in at the same time and he worked with them to get the necessary wiring laid under the cement. Dan knows his stuff and is very honest. I definitely never felt like he was trying to upsell me or take advantage of me in any way. Not only that, but my Dad was here and oversaw everything and he was impressed which takes a lot since he has done this stuff himself for many years. I would definitely use Dan again. We are very happy with the end product -- it looks great! Thanks again!

His price was very, very good. We had other bids and I think the other bids were five to seven thousand dollars above his. I couldn't believe it when I got other bids and his price was so good and he was efficient. He came in, he did the work and he got out.

They worked hard for seven days and I couldn't be happier with the results.

The service turned out well. The owner was very attentive. The workers were very skilled. The project did not turn out the way I had hope. The concrete ended up cracking. Scheduling was not an issue.

My husband Pete, a perfectionist himself, was a cement layer for the City of Long Beach in his younger years. Pete found Dan Gerber to be truly a professional contractor. Dan's crew very knowledgeable, detail oriented, and a pleasure to work with. They did very good work for us, finished our project in the time frame promised, worked diligently, and we had no problems through out the project.

Dan was very responsive; I needed quick turn work and he was able to accommodate my request in his schedule. Dan's crew completed the work within 1 day and left the area clean. Will definitely use him again!

Dan showed up on time. He provided an estimate on the spot and followed up with an email estimate the next day. He returned phone calls promptly. Dan came to the job site both days to check on progress. His crew was courteous and professional and did a fantastic job on my floor!

Not hired; contractor busy until 2014

Dan and his crew are top notch, some of the best I've ever experienced. Dan responded quickly to my original inquiry, showed up to give me a verbal estimate quickly, and provided me with a written estimate within 2 days of that. His crew was onsite for 2 days digging out, prepping and pouring a large area of concrete - and it was like I didn't even know they were there. They worked hard, did the job well and kept things VERY CLEAN. They even taped off the areas with plastic so as not to make an unnecessary mess. Very detail oriented. Coming off of a big remodel project where I had many subcontractors to deal with I can tell you this kind of diligence and work ethic is uncommon. Dan laid out the plan for the project, and everything he said would happen did so right on schedule. When he said he'd be there at a certain time, he was. When he said he expected to pour the concrete at 9am, that's exactly what happened. My only regret is not having a larger project to give them. Don't bother with anyone else, Dan and his crew are the only way to go.

They were very responsive. Their quote was quite a bit lower. They came out with measurement tapes. He was zip, zip, zip; very quick. He was very good. He didn’t talk much but did his business and sent an email right away. He seemed to know what he was doing. He mentioned couple of other things that I thought of. He gave suggestions and wasn’t pushy and he said it would be a good thing to do as long as we are doing this. Our patio has 6” of concrete so they know what kind of concrete to use.

My first impression was how quickly my phone call was returned. Dan quickly set up a time to review the work I wanted done. It was just a matter of a couple days and he had his crew at my site ready to begin work. His crew was most considerate of the neighbors as they worked while many neighbors were still sleeping. That is something that is very hard to do in a Trailer Park community. Dan was very personable and quickly understood what we needed. He answered questions without hesitation. He asked many questions to be sure he and I would have the outcome we were seeking. I had a proposal for the job on the same day of our first meeting. That allowed us to move forward with no waiting. Should I need more work done in the future, I would not hesitate to call him first. A1 job all the way. His beautiful work has made us the envy of the Park!! THANK YOU, DAN!!

As the job began, I repeatedly requested the workers to make certain to compact the earth because I did not want the new concrete to crack. I realized the earth had been disturbed by removing huge tree roots. Also the vibrations during the removal of the offending tree and its stump (by a tree service) and the jack hammering of the old concrete had shifted the foundation of my home, causing my kitchen counter to drop slightly. I had to hire a handyman to shave off wood from the bottom of the counter so I could open my dishwasher door. Therefore I told Gerber I wanted the job of pouring the new patio to be done right the first time because I did not want to risk possible further damage to the kitchen from doing it over. However, before the concrete even dried, a crack was visible. Dan Gerber said his workers probably should have waited longer for the earth to settle before pouring the concrete. He offered to redo it or pay me $800, which he said would be the cost of replacing the pad that was cracked. I took the money because I was so frightened of what further damage there might be to my kitchen. Meanwhile the original crack has extended into a second pad and last month another crack appeared that has stretched across a third very large pad that Gerber installed. I am feeling sick to my stomach about the whole thing and waiting for more problems to appear. I sent Dan several e-mail messages about the second crack and he has not responded. The bottom line is that three of the five concrete pads he installed have cracked.

I was very happy with Gerber Concrete. They gave me a competitive bid, arrived on time to do the work, and did what I asked them to do. The area looks great!
