+ -1 moreThey did a great job. I contracted with the owner Terry Stern for his guys for three days of work prior to moving into the home. They finished in two days! The garage is straight and the interior looks fantastic and solid as a rock. Owner Terry Stern is very accommodating as I had to postpone the start of the job by a few weeks. He also understood when his payment got held up in the mail for a week, great guy. The are a honest straight forward construction company they does not try to sell you gimmicky stuff you don?t need. I will defiantly be calling them for my foundation work
Description of Work: I was purchasing a house with a single car detached garage that was leaning to one side. I got bid from several places with prices ranging from $10 to $20K. I looked then up on the list and got a quote of $4,700, which was the most reasonable. I contracted with Stern’s to straighten the structure and reinforce it with plywood in the interior.

+ -1 moreI own an small house in Echo park that was badly undermined by a partially excavated basement. It needed to be earthquake proofed (retrofitted). I consulted Angie's List and noted that Stern Constr Company came highly recommend by former customers. I called the owner, Terry Stern, and he agreed to meet and give an estimate. A congenial young man, he was quite informative, explaining the process in detail and after some preliminary measurements gave me an estimate of $2900. I signed a contract and we agreed on a time a few weeks hence. Two young men (brothers I believe) showed up in a truck on time and worked their tails off for three days. There was lots of measuring, sawing, drilling, nailing, etc to get the job done. The crawl space under the house was uncomfortable but they never complained. They were friendly and technically competent. They cleaned up the site when complete. I would recommend Stern Construction in a heartbeat to anyone wishing to retrofit a house.
Description of Work: Even though it was a rather small, insignificant little house, Stern Construction Co. agreed to retrofit it to conform to LA County Code for earthquake protection. Operating in a constricted crawl space under the house, two workers used 5 ply plywood sheets to stabilize the upright "Cripple Wall" 2"x6"s upon which the house perched, drilled and attached steel bolts to fasten the 2"x8" "mudsill" to the concrete foundation and used metal joists and 2"x4" blocks to strengthen the structure where it joined the overhead floor. In addition, an 8' 4"x4" upright post supporting a main floor joist was replaced and embedded in concrete.

earthquake retrofitting
+ -1 moreWe are very pleased with the work. I was told they would show up between 7:30am and 8:00am. Gilberto and Salvas showed up at 7:45am. They were very polite and professional. They were more than happy to answer any question I had. They said the job would take 2 days and it did. Gilberto and Salvas cleaned up all the sawdust and plaster from the work and we very pleasant to work with.
Description of Work: We had our house earthquake retrofitted. Gilberto and Salvas (nice guys!) put plywood over our cripple stud walls and anchored them to our foundation.

Description of Work: They came out and leveled my basement walls and put 9 post and piers, 2 new girders, and bolted the basement walls.
