They did not complete the job as discussed. A different crew was sent each day. These crews had no idea what the other crew had done. Workers did not have all supplies, i had to go to lowes and pick-up items. The crew left their debris at my house, even after payment, I had to ask them to come back and carry their trash away. The owner did not remember the details of the job. I had to remind him about replacing molding around my door. I would never use them again. It was not a cheap price for the small house that I have and I just got tired of ealing with them.have a small house

Dear Member, We are very sorry to hear you weren't totally satisfied with the total project we did for you. I am surprised you were not happy with the price of the job. We gave you an estimate and the final amount was exactly what we quoted you. When I originally gave you the quote you said the electrical was much less than what you were quoted from your electrician that did prior work. All the work done was per our contract with you. As per our agreement you were to supply the electrical fixtures and paint that is why you needed to go pick up materials needed. As per different crews, we only put installers that are experts in their field which your project was multiple traits required. Even though you did not have the paint and everything on the job site we still completed the project on time as promised. Not only did we haul the trash from the job, we hauled away some left over materials from other contractors. We strive hard for our customers to be 100% satisfied when you stated your concerns we discounted the final bill $50 to try to make you happier. After total completion you called and said your fan was not working properly ,we came out and determined the fan or remote was defective at no charge to you. Thank you for your business and thank you for your detailed review. we strongly consider that and always try to improve to get 100% customer satisfaction.

The original quote for sandblasting and stucco was $3700. Upon further inspection, and after retrofitting had been performed by another company, the owner informed me that it would cost an additional $1100 to patch the base of the house in certain spots. Before sandblasting, it was noted that a small archway was falling apart and would need to be replaced. After quoting $3500 to reconstruct the arch and coming down to $2800 - which I was later told was worth no more than $1500 - the house was stuccoed. While the stucco was being prepared, I was asked to inspect it to see if I liked it. Since the house is small, and the "swirls" were large - almost like frosting on a cake - I said I preferred just the regular stucco with no swirls. I immediately received a call from the office informing me that this would cost more in labor and supplies. I went down to speak to the laborers and the foreman, and told them to give me a plain, ordinary stucco job and that I was not willing to pay any more than I had agreed. They finished the work in a very timely manner, although they did trash almost all of my landscaping with the sandblasting. I had been informed to remove my plants - but obviously that was something that I could not do, so I hoped for the best - and lost. They will have to be replaced. The foreman, Greg, was more than efficient, professional, friendly and helpful land all the workers did a great job. After the stucco was complete, four painters showed up. I watched through the window and noticed them lying in the driveway eating and resting, and when they left, there was a lot of litter left. I also noticed a great deal of stucco lying in my plants that had not been cleaned up. A light fixture had been tossed into the bushes and we had to have a hunt to find it. The house numbers were not replaced and upon closer inspection we noticed that stucco had not been scraped off utility boxes or railings, and that only one coat of paint had been applied. I informed the office, and they promptly sent out two painters who finished the job properly and to my satisfaction. I don't think anyone can have a perfect experience when a house is sandblasted because there is so much dust and mess - and I think Original Richard did the very best they could to please me and be professional. They responded promptly to every single email or phone call, and I have no complaints EXCEPT for the exhorbitant price of $2800 for the arch and $1500 extra just for painting the exterior of windows. I could have had the entire house painted for that much! All in all I will give Original Richard a grade of A-.
Description of Work: Original Richard provided sandblasting services, followed by patching of stucco where necessary, building of a new archway, stucco and painting of trim.

Dear Member, First I want to thank you for your business and taking the time to review our company, we value your response and are pleased that you were happy with the work. We want to address your concerns. When the extra work was requested we responded very quick and prompt, we gave you a price prior to starting the work unfortunately at today's cost of time, material and fuel things are costly. We did extra patching from the foundation work we had 2 men prep approx. 6 hours each and 2 men another day patching 6 hours each. Again with the cost of material, labor and fuel this was breaking even for us on your project. After inspecting and discovering the Arch-way was rotted and unsafe we recommended re-building it. We gave you an additional price to do so, and you authorized us to go forward. We went that next day on a Saturday with 2 men and dug out the foundation, demo existing Arch-way wall, hauled away trash and debris. We then re-framed with 2 men at a very long day to accommodate your schedule. We lath on Sunday and came back that Tuesday with 2 more men again a very long day and scratched & brown with the discounted rate of $2,800.00 Unfortunately at today's market price this is very fair. As per our agreement on the contract the customer was to clear vegetation and prep. we received a call from you that you could not clear anymore. We went out and set scaffold, covered and protected as best we could considering the clearing of vegetation and prep was not completed. We also made an additional trip out to install address and fixture which is not part of our contract. Again we appreciate your business.

Steven, the son of Original Richard came out to provide the estimate. The two technicians arrived the next day, bright an early to begin work. They were real pros. They worked very quickly to repair the ceiling area in the office and in the garage. It's nice to have the area closed up again after waiting for mold inspections and estimates.

After the 7th phone call I decided it wasn't worth it. I cancelled and hired someone else from Angie's List who gave me an estimate of $500.00
Description of Work: They kept calling for more details after giving me an estimate for $700.00 based on multiple phone calls and photographs. The estimate didn't provide any details as to how they charged anything, but was missing a 2" inch area in the bathroom I had told them about. They then wanted me to give them exact measurement of everything and informed me that the price may go higher.

Dear Member We want to acknowledge that this phone conversation did not result in clear communication and we take seriously your dissatisfaction. We like our clients and potential clients feedback both the good with the bad, it helps us reflect & consider better ways of doing business, so we thank you! WE are so sorry for the miscommunication. We pride ourselves in satisfied clients over the last 42 years of serving the South Bay/Orange counties which all our great reviews attest to. The miscommunication in this case was on the many phone calls back & fourth with you (7) which we believe happened when you added work that you wanted done after the initial estimate was given. It is our standard procedure to ask for measurements and photos of the area the work is being spoken about, precisely to eliminate these communication errors. On 2 of the first calls you made, when you called us back, you were asking more questions before we had the opportunity to even type up the official original bid and email it to you. On yet another call you asked to add more work, which is when we asked for all measurements and photos of the entire job to be performed and revised the estimate based on the additional items. More Work does mean more cost and labor, which is why the estimate changed. I am sure you understand this? Did you fax the contract and mail the check and we missed it? We also explained on the phone and on the email we sent to you, that we needed the deposit and the emailed contract signed and faxed back before we could confirm the appointment. We didn’t receive either from you, so the appointment was never finalized, hence why we didn’t come to do the work, which of course we wanted to do. I am glad to hear that your issues were resolved in the end. If in the future you have other issues that come up we hope to show you why so many clients are actually happy with both our service and our prices. So please do consider this as a mutual communication error and give us a try in the future, were confident you will be happy!

I highly recommend Original Richard. The guys showed up on time, each time they scheduled time to work, including Saturday morning. Our kitchen drywall was damaged by water and my husband and I had to demo every wall and the ceiling. Original Richard came in, replaced the drywall, mud, taped and plastered the ceiling to match our living room ceiling. Everything was done perfectly and I would hire them back in a minute.

Good experience all around. Called to get an estimate on a Monday afternoon and Richard came out that afternoon and gave me quote. I had originally asked for a smooth finish. He pointed out that an "orange peel" finish would be less expensive and since it was a rental unit I agreed that an orange peel finish would be fine, since that is what the kitchen and bathroom had anyways. His price was less than half of the price I had from another contractor for a smooth finish. I am not sure how his price for a smooth finish would have compared but it was a good suggestion and saved me money regardless. I signed the agreement and gave him a key to the vacant apartment. He agreed to have the work done by the end of he week. He asked for a $100 deposit but since I did not have my checkbook with me we agreed that I would pay the deposit by credit card when his office called, which they never did. The work was done by Thursday afternoon. I was not there when the work was performed. They were cleaned up and gone when I stopped by at 5 pm to check out the work. I dropped a check by their office the next day. The unit was left clean. There were a few places where they could have been a little neater, a little overspay in a couple of areas. The ceiling fan was taken down but not put back up. All of which were minor things or typical for the scope of work. That is why I gave them a B for quality instead of an A. All things considered, it was a good experience. Fast, reliable, good quality, great price, they even have an office where you can get a hold of someone if you need to, not a guy working out of his truck who never returns calls like many.

We were very happy with them. The price was fair and the guy that ended up doing the work, who is not the owner, was good, really, really good. It was worth it. He was personally invested. He was just called out to plaster, usually that is just a flat surface. He is a type of artisan, we told him we would love to have the plasterwork match the rest of the 1930's house, the texture. He said, oh that's something I can do, I've done it and he did it. I don't think it was exactly part of the contract but he was more than happy to do this thing. He was super conscientious. He was nice, conscientious and the workmanship was superb. We were so happy with his work that we hired him to primer the plaster before it was painted. The price was very reasonable. I have zero complaints with him. Dealing with the owner, the owner came out and looked at the place and gave us estimates. There were a couple of things that we needed to be aware of. We couldn't completely plaster over the one wall because there was access to electricity in there and he needed to know things about it. I was able to take pictures and email him the pictures so they would understand the areas that they couldn't plaster over. It was just super fast, convenient, professional. It made my life really easy.

Richard's crew performed with the utmost display of professionalism and quality craftsmanship. I took a number of different bids from stucco contractors and chose to work with Richard because I felt he had the most experience with work similar to what I was asking to be done to the home (20+ years in the stucco business). During the initial walk-through, he explained the different stucco finishes I could choose from patiently and listed the pros and cons of each as I was evaluating different options. We drove around the neighborhood also so that I could point out to him the final result I wanted to have after I re-stuccoed the home. His crew, especially Greg the foreman, is very knowledgeable and customer-service oriented. We had a few touch ups that needed to be done on the last day after clean-up, including some areas near the ground that got missed and some windows that required more cleaning. Greg promptly came back to take care of all the details in a good-natured way and stayed until we were happy with all the small details that made this project come out exactly as we had hoped. Donna and Jackie, who work in the office and process the paperwork also are a pleasure to work with on administrative details and thoroughly professional. Any issues we had along the way were communicated directly with Richard, and he always responded and resolved the problems. I would not hesitate to recommend Original Richard for any of my future needs with stucco and look forward to working with them again.

Dear member, thank you for your review on the services we provide. Our price for the work we did, we feel was pretty competitive going out twice. We really appreciated the business, you gave us, Thanks again.
The main reason I selected this company was based on previous reviews and that it was one stop shopping. I called 2 other firms but they each sub-contracted out parts of the job. I was not able to get the full quotes until the next day. They were all within 50 dollars of one another, but again this company did it all themselves. The owner came and did the estimate himself. He honored the 10% Angie's List discount for jobs over $1000. The work took 2 days. 2 workers showed up the first day and on time. They worked a full day the first day, with 1/2 hr lunch break stripping the walls, sanding and patching up holes. Second day they were there until 3:30-4 pm. Room was left very neat and clean. Walls were painted with rollers, not spray painted. Was extremely pleased with the job done. Didn't tell my husband as he was out of town. He didn't even notice the first time he walked into the room. Mentioned how clean the room was. Once pointed out, he remarked how great a job they did and was very pleased with the work. Wouldn't hesitate to use Original Richard again. I'd always use a company without subs if possible.

It went great! The plasterer re-plastered the whole wall and now you cannot tell the wall was ever damaged! The original estimate was from $600-$700.00 and Richard after seeing the job in person chose the lower amount. When I first contacted Richard I had sent by e-mail a picture of the wall with a tape measure in the picture in case he needed to measure anything. His worker arrived on time, went straight to work and was finished is a few short hours. He layed down plastic sheets to cover the carpeting and when he was finished it was as clean as when he started. I would highly recommend Richard for any job he would wish to do.
Description of Work: The previous homeowner removed a floor furnace and installed a wall furnace. A lot more of the plaster from the wall was removed than necessary and covered with an 1/8" sheet of pressboard. I was never comfortable having the area around the wall furnace covered in a flamable material so I have Original Richard re-plaster the whole wall after the pressboard was removed.

I was Informed that there is no in home estimate for this job. Phone estimate with signed contract and deposit were required. Because the price was in line with what I wanted and the web site info on the company, I decided to go with them. In the contract a date and start time were listed. Late afternoon, the day before service, I was contacted with the notice of a different start time which meant because of the newly revised late start time, I would have to at the last minute change my next 2 days schedule. I contacted the company to say that I had set aside time for the project and complied with what they expected from me which was a deposit(which other companies did not request and a signed contract) I wanted them to comply with what they agreed to do. They finally did agree to come at the originally agreed upon time. But I got the feeling they were just doing me a favor. After the workers arrived, I was told that the job was more involved and if I wanted to go ahead it would cost an additional $150. Again because I had arranged my schedule for this I agreed to the extra amount. I did mention that if an in home estimate had been done, I would have had a more accurate idea of what the job involved. from the start. One of the workers was I thought negative about what results one could expect from the project. He thought that he was being objective. He did the work but I guess I did not appreciate his attitude. The other worker's attitude and behavior were very good and much more in line with what I had hoped for. The project required a follow up( removal of acoustic and follow up for painting) I did provide a deposit. Most of the payment was requested at the completion of the first day with the remainder expected at the follow up visit. As a way of smoothing over hard feelings, the owner did not charge me for painting one bedroom wall. Almost a year later, now that the room has been put back together, the ceiling looks okay. I had wanted to remove the rest of the acoustic ceiling in my home. But I will go elsewhere to have the work done.

Dear Member, We are very sorry to hear, almost a year later that you were displeased with the way your project was estimated. With the specifics you gave us over the phone we were very close to what you ended up paying. We very much appreciated your business. Again we are very sorry.

Work went very well. Crew was fast and efficient. Plastic sheets and dropcloths covered everything except work surfaces. Work was finished and all materials were cleaned up. Other crew for painting said that additional touchup was needed. Original Richard had a crew in for touchup the next day to complete details, no questions asked. We are very satisfied with the service and results.
Description of Work: Removed popcorn ceilings in 3 bedrooms plus living room/dining room. Prepared surfaces for painting.

No one came to look at the job. I told them over the phone that I had three openings to fill. Two were approximately 3"X3", and one was 2"X1". They quoted me the price of $300. I thought that was steep, but I had never had plaster work done before. I went ahead and accepted the service based on the organization being an Angie's List recommendation. The plasterer who was hired to do the job was expecting a way larger job. I told him how much I was paying and he thought there must be a misunderstanding so he called the organization, explaining the job, and they did take $25 off. When i called to follow up on this new information, the secretary there told me I was responsible for getting other estimates and that they couldn't take responsibility because I didn't. I was very disappointed because one of the reasons I joined Angie's List was to avoid having to spend time comparison shopping. At any rate, I recommend that you no longer advertise Orignal Richard, so that no other novice at hiring plaster repair gets taken in. The company does not represent your standards. The service man they did send did excellent work! Sincerely, Frances Wenger
Description of Work: I saw an advertisement for Original Richard in the Angie's List Orange County June edition on page A26. Apparently, I was significantly overcharged. I reported the job as being a follow up to an electrical repair.

Dear Member, We are very sorry to hear of your unhappiness with the price we gave you for the repairs. Unfortunately with today's cost we have a minimum of $300, which is basically no profit included. As a consumer you probably don't know our total cost and expenses. Fuel, material, advertising, time spent on the phone, installers, insurance, taxes, overhead, exc.... It is very expensive to run a legitimate business. As you stated, you inquired us through Angeis List. Even though we have a $300 minimum we gave you a $25 discount to try and please you. As you were aware of our quote to you in the amount of $300. If we had realized in the beginning that the cost was an issue we would have never taken the job. Again we are very sorry to hear of your unhappiness in the price we quoted you to do the repairs. we would like to say that we are pleased that you were happy with the quality of our work, thank you again for the business.
